I love hearing from parents who have used a curriculum for several years and had success. Thanks so much for this review/flip through!

Natasha, are you still loving this? So curious what your thoughts are on this program now?

Great video! I own this book but haven’t used it because I really didn’t understand it. You broke it all down for me! I’ve been using All About Reading with my son but he hates the pages of practice words. Can you tell me what Evan moor books you used?

Please note: If you’re starting at the beginning you will want to get the Evan-Moor books in that series labeled A and B first. I show C & D in the video I believe, which is farther along in the book.

Great! My son knows how to read but needs the remediation due to not being taught phonics. That’s probably why he hates AAR! Lol!

Brandi Cole How old is he? This blog post from years ago may be helpful: educationalroots.blogspot.com/2015/10/proof-ordinary-parents-guide-to.html?m=1

He’s 11 and very headstrong! 😂 He only knows the word from memory (if he’s seen it before), he can’t decode it. I realized we needed to go back when he couldn’t read words like said, white, etc.

Natasha, great video! How does TOPGTR compare to All About Reading? Does it teach all the possible sounds for each letter (example: letter "a" makes 3 sounds) like AAR or Logic of English do??? Thanks in advance for your response! I gave you a thumbs up 👍

Hello! I have not used AAR so I do not know that. It does teach all the sound about not all at once like LOE does. It starts with short vowels. Have you used AAR?

@@EducationalRoots thank you for responding! No, never used it. Trying to make a decision about which reading/phonics program to use. I'm surprised no one has done a review comparing the two before as the YT community raaaaves about AAR and the WTM community raves about TOPGTR. I heard AAR teaches the phonetic rules and leaves no gaps. TOPGTR does not teach rules BUT is thorough and gets your child to a third or fourth grade reading level. Such a tough choice for me!

@@user-vg8ez9cu6u It’s funny you ask because I was just looking at AAR, mainly because it comes with readers.

Thank you for this review! My almost 5 year old already knows all of her letter names/sounds and is starting to know CVC words. Would you recommend that I bypass the vowels and constants and start at CVC words? Or do you recommend I start at the beginning even though she is technically past that? Thank you very much! 😍 Love your channel!!!

Does she know the vowels are vowels and the consonants are consonants? That will become important later when they’re learning long vowels, so just make sure she knows that. :)

Hi! I’m trying to do tons of research for my son who is a struggling/reluctant reader. He is finishing 4th grade. I want to especially focus on his reading this summer and next year to get him at grade level so he can feel confident in his schoolwork. This would be amazing if this helped! Have you tried Logic of English Essentials by any chance?

I am not going through this but I want to do the first languages lessons and I heard that you can start it on lesson 150 so I was wondering how much my kids need to know phonically before I start the grammar and writing program? What does lessons 27 to 150 cover?

Did I say that? I don't remember hearing/saying that LOL. Lesson 150 has sentences like this: I am glad that cake is not all gone. I pledge to eat the last crumb of that cake. I lick the last crumb off my thumb. Did you doubt that I would? Now all the cake is gone. Does that help?

I started the first and second languages lessons waayyy before my oldest reached the point of reading those types of sentences. That book is seriously amazing! We have the older version that is smaller in size and combines the two. Excellent is all I can say!!! This ordinary parents guide is amazing as well!!!

I heard the same thing from another KZitemr. I can't remember why they said to wait until lesson 150 though.
