Combine a retinoid with glycolic acid in the same routine when your skin can handle it. Retinoids work because the skin (partially) converts them through retinaldehyde to the active compound retinoic acid. This process is catalyzed by glycolic acid, meaning you get more active compound out of your applied retinoid when glycolic acid is present, without the side effects of increasing retinoid application. Plus you still get the usual glycolic acid benefits. Source: Links won't post. Search for the study: "Pharmacology of RALGA, a mixture of retinaldehyde and glycolic acid" (2005) by Tran et al.

Hello Melissa! My 1 month update: The hyperpigmentation as a result of hormonal acne that I wanted to treat have faded away so well that they aren't visible under a tinted moisturizer. But I did realize how slow this process is but it definitely works. I did develop some new acne and then scars because of bad food choices such as sugary pastry and spicy food. But I plan to tackle them with the same method. Thanks again for this regimen 💫

Hello again :) I think that it works best when used on its own or with your Niacinamide. Apply Niacinamide before Retinol. You can also use a Vitamin C product on days when not using the Granatcive Retinoid or in the morning. Best would be the Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate. Also, it isn't available, so I recommend Paula's Choice Vitamin C 15 Booster. Example. You are so helpful! What are your absolute favorite products? I am newly 26, I suffer with random hormonal chin cystic acne, some redness and ice pick scars. Overall my skin is pretty clear besides my chin. I’m using the following NIGHT- -cerve gel cleanser -paulas choice calming toner (do I do this before glycolic acid if using?) -glycolic acid 3x per week or AHA/BHA peel 1x per week (working up) -Hyaluronic acid 2% -Niacindamide 10% -granactive retinoid 2% (but not on days when using GA, right? Should skip? Or use in AM instead?) -eye cream -ordinary moisturizer -squalene oil DAY: Cleanser Calming toner Hyaluronic acid 2% Ascorbyl Glucoside 12% Ordinary moisturizer Ordinary mineral sunscreen How am I doing? Am I in the right order? Anything I should add or take away? I was a bit confused on what to even buy at first/ percentages to use! I’m new at this as a month ago. My face does feel MUCH softer all ready. I’m thinking of adding EUK during the day for redness, what do you think? Thanks for your help 💗💗💗
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet
3 жыл бұрын
Hey! :) Well, I do not have any favourites because what you choose from the Ordinary depends all on your skin concerns. This is individual for anyone! :) I have a few questions for you... So, you still get acne on your chin right? Have you ever used an acne treatment for this? Also, do you suffer only from ice pick scars or also from red/brown marks because of your acne? AM Routine: - Cleanser - Paula's Choice Toner - Hyaluronic Acid - Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution - Moisturiser - SPF PM Routine: - Cleanser - Paula's Choice Toner - Glycolic Acid (3x per week) - Niacinamide - Granactive Retinoid - Squalane Oil - Moisturiser PM Routine (1x per week): - Cleanser - Peeling Solution - Paula's Choice Toner - Squalane Oil - Moisturiser You can use Glycolic Acid and Granactive Retinoid in the same routine, if that's fine for your skin! However, if sensitivity should occur, keep them separate and alternate between them in your evening routine. Please do not use Glycolic Acid or Granactive Retinoid after the Peeling Solution. Keep it simple after the strong mask. I wouldn't use EUK in your routine, unless you are leaving out another products because it can become a lot... Also, what Granactive Retinoid do you use? The one in Emulsion or Squalane?
@JacK-yb7gu

@@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet Hi! Thanks so much for your response. I believe the current breakout situation on my chin is due to mask wearing, and stress. Ok, I'm just asking because if you have active acne, I recommend getting a Benzoyl Peroxide Cream/Gel of 2% - 5% and just use it on your active acne and if needed! :) Well, I did not include Hyaluronic Acid in the evening because you are already using Niacinamide and Granactive Retinoid + an oil...however, you can also use it in the evening if that has worked out fine for you! :)

Hi Melissa, your videos enlighten me all about retinol 😁, Im starting the ordinary granactive retinoid next week and my current skincare products are only cleanser ( cetaphil ultra gentle), cerave moisturizing cream and sun screen (local brand, gonna change to Neutrogena ultra sheer soon). I do have niacinamide but doesn't use it anymore (it caused purging and acnes ). Is it okay if I only use 4 products (cleanser, moisturizer, sunscreen, granactive retinoid)? Thankyou so much:)
@MelissaVanDijkTheSkinDiet

Hello Christina, Yes, of course, all the products can be used on their own. The routines I am sharing are just examples since most people want to include many products, or let's say want to have a "complete" routine. But you can use Granactive Retinoid on its own if you do not need to use a moisturizer or other serums. However, Sunscreen should not be an optional step, and you should always wear it during the daytime (when exposed to the sun) to protect your skin since some serums make the skin sensitive to the sun! :)

Niacinamide is a water based serum so before. Water based always goes on before oils or creams or anhydrous and use after cleanser. If you are using more than one water based serum you can use both one after the other in any order but use the one that is more important for you in terms of what skin issues you are trying to target first. Also give the niacinamide time to soak into the skin around 1 minute then put retinol

No, but I did get more pimples while using it. If you have acne-prone skin and you're using Retinol, it basically speeds up your cell turnover. Which means that if there are pimples under the skin (not yet visible), they will come to the skin surface quicker and this can be the case for serval weeks before it starts to calm down again. Also, this is what it mentions on the Ordinary website: "This product is not a treatment for acne. Acne-prone skin may experience a temporary increase in acne during the first few weeks of using any form of retinoid, including those used in this formulation."

Yes, most include this. However, the amount that they usually use is meagre, so that it may not be effective anymore. Also, Retinyl Palmitate is questionable. (incidecoder.com/ingredients/retinyl-palmitate) So there is no concern. And you can use retinol in the morning if you apply sunscreen afterwards. However, most people do not apply the sunscreen evenly, and therefore it's recommended to use it in the evening so that you do not come across any issues. But with your moisturizer, it does not matter, since I doubt it will do anything except for keeping the skin smooth and hydrated. Anyway, you can use the Granactive 5% along with it. 🙂❤️
