Hey wow thanks for taking the time to make this video. Not a miner, more a history guy, but enjoyed this tremendously. Funny how a "geologic" video is a great history video as well! Again thanks!

Tks for sharing found a brass pin had come out not allowing the choke arm to actuate the blades in the carb. I'm 50+ yrs old and only now getting mechanically interested to fix my small engine tools. Now gotta go find that part number off the pdf.

If finding Au in the Klammath mountains is just too easy for you, so it's boring, ;-), try heading up to little streams in the Tillamook Highlands. That area of the Coast Range drifted over the Yellowstone Hotspot, so there is a _little_ bit of felsic intrusions and flows up there, in the form of dacite and rhyolite dikes, and some small flows -- and associated with the intrusions are some quartz veins with wee little bits of gold and silver. You absolutely, definitely will not be able to find much gold in the little streams up there, but any tiny specs at all give you some bragging rights -- Coast Range gold!

Just subbed! Can't wait to finish this video later when work is done, but so far I like what you're saying. This year I will be doing much more research and prospecting for the elusive hard rock locations here in SW OR.. as most mining here is placer. But I know that you can't have placer without having hard rock, you just need to find it. This channel will be very helpful, so thanks for posting!

Awesome history and quick break down of the types of mining , types of ores and Locations . I have two load and one placer claims in the Bohemia mining district . I can attest that there is a lot of sulfides there , but there have been some high grade pockets found , especially in the Helena mine . Rumors of a five ounce nugget found in a creek I will not say witch creek lol . As my claim is just above we’re it was found . I have found nice little nuggets I have also found one electrum nugget as well . I believe there may be pgm’s but have not had any testing done for that yet . But there is also rumors to go with it . That district is very secretive and it is hard to find good information on the district other than the bigger mines .

Nice overview of Oregon's mining history. I could sit here and nitpick the inaccuracies, but don't have time. The first I noticed was Josephine creek being placed ~50 miles north of its actual location on the map. There were more, but I understand you can't get everything right. A friend of mine was the one who recently found the nuggets shown in the first slide. That was respectful of the presenter to not mention the exact location.

This was very interesting video. I have learned so much from this. Mainly mine terminology was the interesting to me. Learning about stopes and load mining has always been not so easy to understand because no one went into detail about adits and stopes. And hanging walls. Thank so much, my question is. If gold is widely used in our life styles why is it so heavenly regulated. Really not dare that people could dredge in the 70 80 and 90”s . Now completely stopped. Why have they regulated the panner or sluices so bad that we can not do as our fathers did or our grand parents did. I have learned that small scale prospectors help habitat and help fish with better spawning grounds. The lies that a prospectors destroys fish habitat are complete lies. And really if god put these water ways for us to enjoy who gave these agencies the rights to license and regulate what was put here by god. It really angers me that as a small scale prospector we are so heavenly regulated.

Yep, I'm with ya on that. I learned prospecting and suction dredging back in 1990 in Plumas County CA. Found some good areas prospecting the small run off creeks away from the main feather River branches and other main creeks. I did a fair amount of sniping too with good enough results to pay the bills and feed and house a family of 5 and still have a profit. I learned from some old timers. It pisses me off to no end that big brother steps in and plugs all the good producing lode mines, but then puts the brakes on the little guys trying to seek fortune. Eff big brother! Wildlife habitat is definitely improved by dredging out spawning ponds in the creeks! Even the tailing are a benefit to fish, wildlife and people lookin to find a good summer spot where they can soak, fish and enjoy the great outdoors. Who died and made BLM, or the USFS, the head pope!? Eff all that! They don't own the earth! We do.

Cant believe there is not a single mention of Golden Oregon and its placer field worked by the Ruble Rock Elevator (a couple of them). The field is now a wetlands but you can now walk into the old mining field that was once the slope of a hill.

You can dredge anywhere you want. The penalty for doing so is a slap on the wrist. Not a life sentence. We miners go out and dredge anyway. Hope to see you out there

Hello , I live close to Eugene , I have claims in lane county . Go to the forest service in cottage grove , there you can get a pamphlet for there withdrawn areas up Brice creek . A withdrawn area is land that has been withdrawn from mineral location and cannot be claimed by anyone , however they are open for prospecting . Most of the with drawn areas are at the campgrounds on Brice creek . You will have to get the pamphlets at the forest service station to see what the boundaries are to be sure that you not on someone’s claim , as there are claims next to the withdrawn areas . The withdrawn areas are marked on brice creek road by yellow signs Stating that that area is withdrawn . Be sure to get the pamphlet before you go . If you have any questions just reply through this comment section and I’ll help you the best I can .

Ah, you missed something about the big dredges! The Timms dredge in John Day operated until 1942 when being shut down by FDR. There was another dredge operating around that time at Susanville.

At gold beach, Mr. President, how much flour gold made it out passed the extreme low tide line? It seems that you may be of only a few people who might know the answer, and how many claims have been made out there, or at possibly the least, has anyone ever tried to get gold out there? There is a permit system now, are there any records of anyone doing so? Thank You.

Very grateful for the stock information. Seems like usgs not really into promoting any recreational prospecting / or. One two person operations that someone could actually labor with some modern technology, exercise some environmental safety concerns. Reclaim when the area has been worked??, seems like what could still remain at today's prices should be obvious..really sounds long depleted and not really possible.. good thing if you know otherwise..
