Sleepy Hollow is great, chilling scenes and a great story. Basically perfectly done. I’ll never forget the boy hiding under the floor and walken spotting him. Or the fight near the bridge, the bleeding tree. So many moments

It was a good movie, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the original story by Washington Irving other than character names. I was surprised when I finally read the original story and saw that it wasn't intended to be horror.

The Hessian Dragon details is a nice touch! Honoring the original source, cause in the the story, The Headless Horseman was a Hessian Soldier. That's a great attention to detail. So glad they included that. The costume is truly a work of art. ^^

The Horseman was killed in 1779 according Balthus Van Tassel, the Holy Roman Empire still existed (until 1806) and Hessian mercenarians employed by Britain came mainly from the landgraviate of Hesse-Kassel and its dependant territory, Hesse-Hanau. But neither had coats of arms displaying dragons or wyverns, not even the local aristocratic families' crests. Without overanaIyzing too much, I would merely bet on an imitation of the HRE double-headed eagle but with dragons instead. Weirdly, if you look closely at it the left talon hold a bone cross-bearing orb, mimicking the regalia used by Christian Emperors as a symbol of God's domination over the world. It could mean the whole crest of the Horseman suggests in a macabre parody the "Devil's domination", as dragons were associated to evil and sin.

THANK YOU for taking the time to cover it 🙏 P.S. While you were there, did you see (or ask about) if Katrina's ending scene dress (the black/white striped one) also survived or exists somewhere? I've been sooo curious about that dress for years, and if I ever got into cosplaying that dress is one I'd love to try to replicate someday.

According to Sleepy Hollow locals, the Hessian was real. And Ichabod, Katrina, and Brom were as well. They all have actual tombstones in the old Dutch graveyard. The Hessian was given an improper burial, about 20ft north of the church.

@@masterofallgoons Their tombstones are literally there…I’ve seen them. And Ichabod Crane was a real person as well just not a school master. He was a soldier in the American Revolution, and didn’t take too kindly to Irving’s description of him.
@masterofallgoons
Жыл бұрын
@@joshsauer4725- that's not true. I live about 15 mins away and have been many times, and I'm well aware of the backstory of Irving's basis for his characters. The 'real' Ichabod Crane, who Washington Irving borrowed the name from and nothing else, was indeed a military official, but he's buried on Staten Island, not in Tarrytown. Brom Bones was not a real person, nor was his real name 'Abraham Van Brunt', but a real person named Abraham who went by the nickname Brom served as inspiration for that character. There was a Van Tassel family, but not a Katrina Van Tassel. And the Headless Horseman myth was an invention of Washington Irving based on Irish, and other, folklore, and some believe that he Irving was inspired by stories of a Hessian soldier who lost his head in the battle of White Plains, but that's unverified and is only named in the story a 'nameless battle in the revolutionary war.'
@joshsauer4725
Жыл бұрын
@@masterofallgoons I misinterpret, I’ve understood that none of the characters were real, but that there are in fact names that match those of his story, and that Ichabod was a real person, just not exactly depicted. The Hessian is also talked about by locals every time I’ve been there, as well as what I’ve seen from tour guides in videos. The one I’ve heard, is that before White Plains, he saved a baby from a building his team was instructed to burn. He placed the child in a nearby cornfield, and informed the mother where she would find her baby. I can’t exactly remember WHY he was given an unmarked grave. I think it had to do with differing religious beliefs.

A classic tale told from some of the best crew of film making Tim burton Johnny depp . The score is also Danny elfmans best imo . So haunting but fresh brings a sense of dread but has a bit of actions keeping the tension as fast paced as it’s runtime 2 hrs is over in 20 mins . Great use of practical effects and limited cgi . Best experience for horror fans . Has everything rounding the story with again said action romance mystery and ofcourse mayhem .

With fabrics, it can depend on material and fragility case-by-case. Institutional policies vary, but many textile conservators work bare-handed.
