There's also the fact that it is known that Midgardsormr and Hydaelyn had an accord, so there is some thematic link between the two, and therefore the First Brood, just to get in the WoL's headspace since some of their ideas have been pretty wacky before, Eden raids as an example. It might be that Solar Bahamut is, perhaps, an attempt to 'redeem' or do justice by Bahamut, pulling from the original's title of 'Dawnwyrm', which got corrupted to 'Dreadwyrm' and has parallels with the term used in-game, 'Lightwyrm'. It might be that WoL just thinks of Hydaelyn as the go-to idea of Light now, thus the theming. Alternatively, the WoL noticed they had the 'code' for Hydaelyn, but felt weird about just summoning a clone of her due to knowing her personally, and so warped the shape the code took by shunting it onto the Dawnwyrm.

If you collect the Apocryphal Bahamut, by having all of the extreme trial mounts from EW, the explanation is given to you straight up: yes you can form pretty much any Bahamut you like, even one holding a chair. The NPC and PC selectively chose to focus on primal Bahamut’s desire to be free to summon a version of him that only embodies hopes and dreams. If you as any job that can summon a dragon holding a chair, I can buy that you as summoner can summon a dragon with sword for wings. The swords that form Solar Bahamut's wings also seem to add to the Hydaelyn connection. If you count them, each "wing" is made up of 7 swords, totaling 14, the same amount of shards Hydaelyn sundered Etheirys into in order to sunder Zodiark. Plus, on a bit more of a stretch, while she does use Chakram and a staff, Hydaelyn's go-to weapon seems to be a good old sword, both as Hydaelyn and as her original self of Venat. There's also Exodus being used by both, so...

From a Doylist perspective, I strongly suspect they wanted to make a Demi-Hydaelyn, but were afraid of it being too much of a spoiler. Also can't help but notice similarities to the concept of the Stranger in Paradise version of Bahamut (who also had blades floating behind him in lieu of wings, and was made of a silvery metal). As for both why and how the Warrior would make such a merger of Hydaelyn's essence and Bahamut's form, I think that it's in the limitations of the Trance. IIRC the reason why we got Phoenix is due to how those two essences were intermingled - essentially, Demi-Phoenix really is just Demi-Bahamut, but altered slightly by invoking a different aspect of the mingled aether (possibly due to our time in the First and the exposure to the Light somehow drawing out the Phoenix aspect). Since we haven't gone through the process (in game at least...) of repeating the ritual for any other primals, it's possible that the only way the WoL can improve their Demi is by developing another alteration - in this case, by merging a new essence onto the Bahamut template.

One thing that I think you forgot to mention was the dreadwyrm trance phase of summoner. There was a lot of care into pointing out that the first three summons were, for all intents and purposes, as close as possible to a "tamed" primal. They had the exact same signature, and we were able to provide enough ether to sustain it for it's attack. Bahamut, on the other hand, was too grand, so we had to learn that there are other uses for a primal's ether: weaving it into other things, or in this specific case, ourselves. Endwalker also taught us about the intricacies of primal's, why they act the way they do, and how it's based off of creation magicks, changes and taught by ascians. I believe that solar bahamut is us taking our knowledge of summoner summoning, weaving ether into trances, and the idea of creation magicks in order to not just create an imitation of a primal, but use what ever combination of ethers to make new summons. It's practically exactly what you said, but I feel the detail of our character already knowing how to weave primal ether into something other than a practically identical copy is a pretty important detail.

This kinda adds on to something I heard someone say. That as of Shadowbringers, we basically learned everything that the soul crystals could teach us and everything beyond that is a new technique that we've developed through our mastery of the skills and magics available to us. It sortof explains why we no longer have job quests from a lore perspective. There's no longer anyone who can teach us anything. We've mastered our jobs and now all that remains is honing our abilities and creating new ones that will be etched onto our jobs stones. It's kinda interesting to think about how the jobs stones of the Warrior of Light will likely become powerful relics after we're gone and only the strongest of people will be able to wield the skills etched upon them.

Based on the Eden primals, my idea would have been to combine the primals we already have into a fusion. Like combining Ifrit, Titan and Garuda into a temporary super summon. And in Eden, the end result of the Eden primals wildly differed from our recollection.
@jrtime228

Summoning something by using aether IS creation magic in essence. You are creating something out of aether rather than it being teleported from one place to another using aether. Zodiark and Hydaelyn are prime examples of this in action. Despite them being lauded as gods, they did not already exist within the vastness of creation when they were summoned. And the unsundered taught this summoning to beast tribes, which was then studied and refined by Allag and weaponized as the Summoner Spell School. The "faith" spoken of is the conduit for which the summoning takes a form. It has nothing to do with the creation of the summon but it gives it an identifiable form (a body). An example of aether in a bodiless form are the common elemental sprites we see in the world (the furbles are an example of wind aether in an identifiable physical form)

I appreciate your bringing up that the WoL's behavior when playing Machinist is completely their doing. It's been my theory since the job quests stopped being the source for abilities and spells that the WoL had reached a point surpassing any of their mentors and indeed what the soul stones had recorded, resulting in the WoL essentially having to 'improvise' skills and spells that would then be etched onto the stones. As for why Solar Bahamut was the result of this behavior, I think Occam's Razor would point to sheer familiarity. Not only did they encounter the primal Bahamut during the Battle at Carteneau Flats, but in their last outing to the ruins of Dalamud, as well as the strength of those tempered by it (Twintania, Nael, etc.), making Bahamut probably the second most familiar primal to the WoL after Hydaelyn.

I always understood that past a certain point there was no longer any knowledge to be gained from most Soul Crystals, so the Warrior of Light gets to "unlock" job actions by coming up with them on their own(and imprinting that in the Crystals). Of course, it's not truly this clear cut and the WoL may learn things from soul crystals late into their growth or boost their beginnings by creating moves that weren't in them. After all, if you remember the HW DRG job quests, your WoL actually invents the lvl 52 skill as the NPC Heustienne will ask them about, which they do comfirm that they did, or Esteem mentioning the "trick" the WoL had made in the lvl80 DRK quest, it's pretty clear that the skills you unlock aren't always learned but invented by the WoL, and that especially applies for jobs that were evolved from classes(Dragoon and Monk job quest explicitly talk about how the WoL's style of fighting is different from the normal practitioners of the same discipline as them). What I mean by this is that the Warrior of LIght coming up with new moves unheard of isn't really news to me, but I would *_INFINITELY_* prefer that you have a way to properly introduce them to the player so that it makes sense to everyone -and to also make the rotation of SMN less boring even if still easy pls pls pls-. Sure getting a new summon is nice, but it doesn't really make me WOW that much specifically _because_ it's not explained what it actually means to have it and what it represents, since to most people, it's just a blue skin of Bahamut. I'm guessing next expansion we'll get Lunar Phoenix with Zodiark's aetherial signature from what this video hints at, but it's not really gonna matter how cool as a concept it is if we don't get anything that gives context as to what it symbolizes.

Considering that it's pretty typical for a Final Fantasy game to have multiple Bahamut versions (Bahamut, Neo-Bahamut, Bahamut Zero, etc.) it seems perfectly normal that SMN ends up with a pokedex full of Bahamuts.

I would say that an interesting idea would be that Solar Bahamut is the culmination of the WoL's learning about Summoning in general (As a Summoner and of learning about the Creation technique of the Ancients). Using the knowledge from the SMN Soul Crystal, the knowledge and techniques they themselves developed starting in Shadowbringers. And the knowledge of the truth behind creation magics and the "fixed" summoning technique used by the Tribes at EW's climax, the WoL used all of that to use creation magic to create a "Demi Primal" I use quotations there as, while it is in the shape of a demi-primal and has Hydealyn's ether signature woven into it. Solar Bahamut could very well be a Concept rather than a Demi-Primal (the WoL dispelling Solar Bahamut at the end of his duration to prevent him from supping up too much ether from the environment/themselves) To simplify, my thought is Solar Bahamut isn't a Demi-Primal. He's a concept akin to those made with Ancient-Creation Magic, fashioned in the form of Bahamut using Hydealyn's Ether-signature

The Warrior of Light canonically has one hell of a wild imagination. 15:22 - I'm surprised you didn't mention the Eden raids, where the WoL's imagination makes the craziest versions of familiar primals. The Eden raids are basically foreshadowing the WoL SMN getting randomly inspired after the events of EW to start making their own thing, with... questionable results, lol. From a gameplay perspective though, I really wish it wasn't just another Bahamut because visually it's so goddamn boring to have another one.

I like Solar Bahamut as a concept, but why can’t we have both Solar Bahamut and all six standard elements for egis/demi summons? Picto is the first job to actually implement all six of the standard elements and personally I feel like they should lean in more on these classical elements stuff.
@jrtime228
Ай бұрын
Picto is also based on the imagination and aetheric paintings that serve an intended function, not complicated formulas to make aether take on the form of something semi-autonomous that can use aether as well. And the concept for a XIV summoner was already well established before the concept of lunar and solar primals was. Retconning that would take a lot of changes to ARR which would also result in changes needing to be made to further expansions (all for one class). That does not sound like a feasible thing to do in terms of time and resources that can be allocated to keeping the game going. It would be VERY nice to have more summons. And id be all for having a summon or two from stormblood. But realistically speaking, I see more downsides for the devs than upsides for us. Don't forget, this is a GAME, and it has its limitations.

Likewise, Picto finally added Comet, in a way, to the WoL's spellbook .... Yet still, no Quake. At this point I wonder if they view Quake as too triggering to a Japanese audience due to the prevalence of tragedies from earthquakes irl, or some nature of it exclusive to enemies akin to Rogue turning to Ninja and not Thief (and of course, no Necromancer job)

I love this idea because it lends itself so well to the established lore in very subtle ways. First, the "solar" part of the name makes perfect sense, not only as a counterpart to "Lunar Bahamut" but as the sun was the symbol of the Seat of Azem. The Warrior of Light is the current bearer of (the majority) of Azem's soul, and even Emet-Selch, Elidibus, and the shade of Hythlodeus mention recognizing your soul as Azem in Shadowbringers, before you even find out who you are. Additionally, the blue glow coming from Hydaelyn makes perfect sense as well. Not only because of how the Warrior of Light fought her, but because of how Hydaelyn relates to Azem. Hydaelyn was summoned by Venat, the previous occupant of the Seat of Azem. The wings being formed of fourteen blades, likely each representing the fourteen shards (possibly with the main body representing the source). There's the fact that Astral Impulse is changed to Umbral Impulse, and we know light (Hydaelyn's element) is umbrally aligned, thanks to Shadowbringers. And finally, Solar Bahamut's ultimate finisher is "Exodus", is the same name of Hydaelyn's big finisher move. Thank you for this video, and encouraging me to look into it a bit more. Before watching this, I was a bit indifferent to the idea of Solar Bahamut. But when put into the context of it being related to Hydaelyn, it makes far too much sense when you look into it. There's far TOO many tiny details that match up for it to not be.

I think that's a reasonable take. We already know summoners enter trance to invoke power of primals too powerful to create an egi of (this is what we do with Bahamut back in Heavensward). With the WoL's greater power from an 8th rejoining, it could be they can manifest a primal, in this case, Bahamut, but they're entering a Hydaelyn Trance while doing so. Swords were a part of her motif.

The WoL, being from the source, has been "rejoined" with several shards of azem + one additional shard from the first making you very possibly the single most "complete" being outside of the unsundered ascians. Perhaps this means the WoL is beginning to gain access to the creation magics of the ancients, and that is how they were able to create solar bahamut? Solar bahamut is actually kinda cool now. Thanks for the explanation! On another note, this is a strong case for why it would be nice to see specific job quests again. Outside of the job itself and how/where you gain certain skills, they can add a lot of lore to the world and your own character.

It's funny you mention Solar's magic circles but not Exodus. Literally Exodus. It's an olive branch towards Divine Light Trance, no question. There's some thoughts I wanna throw in haphazardly about SMN in general. And I hope I'm not misremembering stuff here. - At the end of 6.0, I was completely convinced the next trance would be Eternal Darkness Trance, as all conditions for it have been met resoundingly. The Source is still actively being showered with His Darkness, as... the FSH questline in Sharlayan mentions, of all things. Less so for Hydaelyn, but we can say using the Mothercrystal sufficed to spread Her aether. - Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure a Demi is summoned by infusing any Egi with the drawn-in aether of a trance, for a short period of time. I don't have an encyclopedia to check that, nor do we have supplementary quests for Demi summons. We can blatantly ignore spoiler reasons and just say Hydaelyn and Zodiark are too powerful to summon Demis of and/or no Egi could withstand being infused with their aether. - The conditions for a trance differ from that for binding an Egi. For a trance, you "only" need to draw from a primal's residual aether. You don't have to fight the primal, hence why Urianger can use Firebird Trance. For an Egi, the SMN has to have participated in its slaying, then go to a place that matches the primal's aether, summon it and subdue the Egi in combat. That needs to happen for all Egis, no ifs or buts. - Any given SMN is limited by their aether in how many Egis can be bound. For the WoL, that limit happens to be three. A longstanding misconception is that people think everyone is limited to three Egis. Trances were conceived to go around this aetheric limit and still harness primal power(s). - Based on Enkindle II, we can surmise the WoL decided to further enhance/refine Ifrit-, Titan- and Garuda-Egi, instead of binding another one. Alternatively, the WoL is still not capable of binding a 4th and that's the next best thing. - I understand people want Sapphire Leviathan, Diamond Shiva and Amethyst Ramuh. But as I mentioned before, this isn't so easily done for lore reasons and you can spit venom and grating insults at me as much as you want. It doesn't change. HOWEVER, there is a super simple and even better workaround for this debacle - Egi glamour. All we need is one more quest, either from the Arcanist Guild Master or Y'mithra, to glamour the refined Enkindle II summons to literally anything else. That way, we could go further than just the ARR primals. The writers wouldn't have to be burdened with rewriting, the quest people wouldn't have to work on solo instance quests and... well the artists and devs will have to supply icons, vfx, sfx and animations, but that's the least problematic thing.
@SAI-Max_D

Perhaps I'm overlooking and/or misunderstanding something both here and from the Eden raids-given my lack off knowledge in the aetheric arts-but would it be possible for an experienced summoner to place their egis under a trance? (e.g. having Titan Egi undergo a Leviathan Trance to trigger a mudslide for the purpose of drawing-in a group of enemies, or infusing Ramuh's lightning into Ifrit's Crimson Strike to create a superheated bolt of plasma)

Oooooh, the idea of summoners using the Hydaelyns 'code' to create something new by combining it with a previous spell is so cool and also really emphasises the strength of WOL at this time of their journey. I had assumed it was the light exposure via hydaelyn that was involved, and as a bard player that was only reinforced with Radient Encore, which definitely also had Hydaelyn vibes. I am not sure if other classes have some light or hydaelyn flavoured touches, but it makes co plete aense to me considering how bog of an influence she is. I love when the story effects the attacks, or the attacks tell a story, like how during Shadowbringers, white mages spells immediately leaned more light based with glare and dia because of the available aether around them. You're mostly right with where "Solar" Bahamut came from. Especially since we know Venat and of Azem. Azem's Celestrial Sign is the Sun. And while Venat does have that circle platform-like symbol related to her, it's also the defacto image we know of the "Blessing of Light." which has also been associated with the Warrior of light since before we knew who Venat was, and the symbol will most likely continue onwards with people still capable of worshipping Hydaelyn, which can still recreate the MotherCrystal in her place as it did the last time. Solar Bahamut is the embodiment of our desire to protect, which is why we also get Lux Solaris a massive healing spell, along with the stronger than Demi Bahamut's Enkindle, so my Supposition is that Solar Bahamut is totally our Concept, not inspired by anything else. And I do need to point out several things. Using the Encyclopedia Eorzea as reference has to come with the Caveat of the EEs being written in universe, with knowledge that may or may not be biased or flat out wrong. For instance, EE Vol1 still calls the Tribal Societies as Beastmen, even though it also recognizes them as Spoken just the same as other Races, which is something that has since changed in our external vernacular, but the book is still influenced by the in-world bias. Here's the proofs to disprove The Encyclopedia's account of Lunar Primals. First, Odin Has a *singular* Adherent, the Sundered, also known as the person who is holding the Zantetsuken (The actual Primal, the Man on the Horse isn't a Primal but the tempered who is changed into the Knight, it's the lore reason the Superboss changes each time he's killed). If there are no tempered, there's no one to summon a "Lunar Odin" but he surely existed, and was certainly killed on Carteneau. Secondly, the mind addled Arkasodara created Cinduruva Minduruva and Sanduruva, three primals who are not "Lunar" in any way shape or form, the same as 'the Anima of Garlemald' which while twisted in form, has no defined shape at all, and is the ensummoned butchered body of Varis. To me, this makes the case that the "Lunar" are actually molded from Fandaniel's own twisted desires, rather than those being controlled to summon them, allowing them to be created and moved to wherever Fandaniel wants, rather than simply protect the ones who summoned them. He certainly had a twisted mind, which could absolutely pollute and twist the image of those Primals for his own desires, even making a full on Odin, too. So where does this leave us now? Like you said, after a certain point, all jobstones have nothing left to give us, and I'd place that point at the last quest of their "Natural" Job questlines (All pre Shadowbringers quests for the jobs before Shadowbringers). No one else has ever shown Living Shadow as a DRK, Sidgurd flabbergasted that "Frey" could manifest in Stormblood even supports this. Every other Padjali White Mage uses Stone and aero spells (Even Kann-e in Endwalker uses Stone IV) while we bust out the Glares (We gained Glare in 72 in Shadowbringers). Monk Quests in Stormblood even point out how you've already diverged heavily from normal Monk moves. Not a single Samurai has the same large scale moves post 60 (Hien's limit break is Crush Weapon in Ghimlyt where as Lyse's Final Heaven and Yugiri uses Chimatsuri). I would go as far as saying for Summoner, since we have lore to back up the "Only 3 Egi" limit and Trance being the means to utilize power beyond our limit. But we can summon Demi-Bahamut (as of StormBlood), Demi-Phoenix (As of Shadowbringers), Ruby-Ifrit, Topaz-Titan, and Emerald-Garuda (as of Endwalker), which is 2 or 5 outside of the normal Summon limit. We're so far out of the standard that Solar Bahamut *has* to be our creation alone, no outside influence required.
@GayLPer
Ай бұрын
I would argue that we're still operating by normal Summoner limits. After all, it specifies three *Egis*. Egis not only contain some of the power of the primal it's spawned from, but its personality as well. A demi summon isn't an egi - it seems to be more like calling forth an echo of a primal, which makes it ephemeral in nature, and seem to be more extensions of our will. Though it still holds the usual caveat of us needing to be exposed to their aether. That being said, Solar Bahamut is probably *not* a demi summon - it is an all new creation of ours, drawn from the energies of Hydaelyn and formed by our experienced. And don't forget that our egis also evolve to contain the full power of the primals they were born from, coincidentally around the same time as in Endwalker where the Loporrits use creation magic to create uncorrupt primals from the faith of the tribes. I firmly believe that the implication is that being exposed to their aether again, in a much purer form, allowed us to evolve them in such a way. With that in mind, I'd propose that Solar Bahamut is, in fact, a full primal of our creation. Albeit... one that is pure of purpose, hungers not for power, and doesn't take more than it's given.

Really love this explanation and as a summoner main, it all makes complete sense to me. Yes I would have loved to get new summons like a lot of us thought we would get, but I see Bahamut and I'm a happy girl. You know, like warrior mains are happy when they get to do another Fell Cleve. I think it was also influenced by our encounter with Tiamat. We learnt her grief and regret for calling forth the primal form of her beloved companion. In creating Solar Bahamut there might be a way for us to honour the noble dragon he was. Just like Hydaelin loved her people and the star, Bahamut loved his kin and was protecting them until the last. We get Lunar Bahamut on lvl100... and we all know what we are fighting for there in the MSQ.

To add onto the mention of the Primals we summoned on The First, Solar Bahamut isn't too different from the Ramuh we summoned being merged with Ixion, or the Leviathan we summoned being merged with Thalaos and Perykos, just we created a Demi-Primal inspired by two different Primals. Not to mention the other example: Shinryu, which was directly inspired from Bahamut and Ilberd's trauma from the Calamity (and possibly from Midgardsormr himself). Also, from more of a series standpoint (not lore), Bahamut having lots of alternate forms is a bit of a Final Fantasy staple and it's also probably a little reference to Final Fantasy XVI's Bahamut being light-aspected. Also thank you for mentioning the lore book image since we've never truly seen the real Bahamut in-game. Real Bahamut would also have looked more like the other Great Wyrms (as in much longer and more slender) whereas the Primal version doesn't really resemble the other Great Wyrms much.

One thing is that Lunar Bahamut was not just astral/dark aspected, but also clearly Anima/Zodiark inspired, in-game. Solar Bahamut is, basically, a redemption of Bahamut. Its based on Hydaelyn, its based on the lore and feelings of the Apocryphal Bahamut quest, its based on the saving of Azdahja. Its basically an embodiment of the song of hope embodied by both the original Bahamut and the untainted Bahamut primal made by Tiamat's love.

Great vid, especially the beginning bit lmao. After playing as SMN at max level, it made me think that the devs missed an opportunity to bring in new egis by implementing alternate egis in the transition phases between Solar Bahamut, Regular Bahamut and Phoenix. It could have been for ex. Solar Bahamut -> Egi1, Egi2, Egi3; Reg Bahamut -> Titan, Ifrit, Garuda; Phoenix -> Leviathan, Shiva, Ramuh. Each new egi could still act similarly as the 3 egis we already have, just with different graphics to give uniqueness to that egi, like Garuda's range being the template for Ramuh dealing lightning strikes and leaving a levin field dot. Anything could've been possible, like introducing egis for Ravana, Bismark or even the Triple Triad. If these egis would come in out of nowhere by the devs, they would eventually obtain reason of being from the playerbase that enjoy it.

I absolutely love this perspective. A grievance I've had with summoner is how we don't have access to the last 3 elements (water, ice, lightning) and should be able to summon the primal energies of those 3 elements considering where we are now with our strength and discipline. Our storage of Aether has even bolstered substantially because of Ardbert as well, so thematically it would've made sense to have us summon the primals like Levi, Shiva, and Ramuh However, i love the idea that Solar Bahamut is that of our own willpower. This one being a testament to our own capability. Gameplay wise I personally wanted something a bit more involved than essentially being Bahamut with a heal, but thematically i think Solar is perfect (esp also Solar = Sun, sun emits light, we're the Warrior of Light, BOOM)

I honestly think their biggest mistake was making it "a bahamut" when it comes to the reception. If you really didn't want to make Hydaelyn herself because of spoilers, I think making up a new summon that acts as a reinterpretation of her, with a different shape and name but the same references Solar Bahamut has, would have been a lot more appreciated, because there'd be less confusion. Plus now you have "two bahamuts + phoenix" as your demi trio, it makes Phoenix the odd one out of the bunch thematically, having the third, stronger demi something unique would have avoided that. Hopefully the next addition balances things out, I wouldn't mind a Lunar Phoenix, even if it wouldn't make sense with your lore reasoning. And I'm saying all this as someone who doesn't actively dislike Solar, it's a pretty cool design.

White Mage's offensive magics going from earth and wind to unaspected umbral magic being probably the most obvious example but also phoenix and the demi-primal evolutions of the egi summons are already well outside the scope of what the summoner job quests were.

I'm going to note that Bahamut is often considered to be a light-aspected summon or entity and you can see this especially in 16, which Yoshi-P brought a lot of the ideas of 14 into. So it's likely that the reason that Solar Bahamut is influenced by Hydaelyn is just because she's a more powerful source of light ether. Also, not every Warrior of Light actually has been to the first one. Anyone that was made in 2.0 is never really considered to be the same character as the one from the initial cutscene. However, summoners do deal with getting attuned to Bahamut's aether in the early job quests when Dreadwyrm Trance was introduced.

The most interesting thing about Solar Bahamut's visual design for me is that it actually seems to draw very heavily on KH2's Nobodies. It really looks like what a Bahamut superboss or summon could have looked like in that game with the colours and swords.

I was noticing the similarities to the Stranger in Paradise version, myself. Not nearly as detailed, but similar silhouette - long body with blades in lieu of wings.

It personally reminded me of FF15's bahamut, given how he also has swords for wings.

That whole thing about primals being shaped by the summoner's thoughts & feelings & such is how I came up with my personal theory about why the Eden primals summoned by the WoL were so different from their original forms: My pet theory is that, due to merging with Ardbert & becoming that much closer to their original Ancient self, the WoL was starting to subconsciously reconnect with some of Azem's original power, which resulted in them accidentally putting a bit to much pizazz on their summonings, as it were. One thing in-game that actually somewhat supports this theory is that the two Eden primals created after the player receives Azem's memory stone are much more true to their original forms, suggesting that the player has better control over Azem's powers as a result of the events of the 5.3 MSQ. This also ties into your own theories as to the origins of Solar Bahamut, especially with the knowledge gained about the Ancients & the events of Endwalker, which, IMO would result in even further mastery of their inherited Ancient powers (as evidenced by the increasing ease with which they wield Azem's power to summon allies to their side for certain battles).

Another reason why we need job quests of some kind at max level. Even if it doesnt progress the story, something to tie in the skills or update old friends about our progress.

Another piece to support the theory, there are 14 swords making up the wings. Could just be a coincidence, but given the sigil and aetherial resemblance, it seems pretty intentional to me.

Honestly looking at Hydaelyn's own wings up close, they do look rather like swords. And of course, Venat herself loved conjuring up weapons of all kinds.

This is such a cool idea and I love - and it makes me wonder if we're going to get an Abyssal Phoenix in the future, which would also be awesome
@GayLPer

I agree, it would be awesome. Thematically, though, I feel like "Eclipse Phoenix" would be a better title, since the Phoenix is already thematically associated with the sun, and diving into a darker interpretation would be like "eclipsing" that theme.

Machinist WoL: "I wanna do backflips and acrobatic jumps while going bang bang bang!" Me: "I'll fix that urge of yours with a mod or two, dear..."

Machinist jumping around and doing flips makes sense when you remember that the job was invented in the city of people who jump around and do flips. It also sets the job apart from Limsa's Musketeers.

insanely cool video! and i love how even the implication that the WoL is their own person could be a reflection of things explained through the story like being a shard, joining with other people's aether etc however now i'm headcanonning that my character's summons have his face comically plastered on them

The thought of passing the machinist discipline on new machinists and telling them that yes, the backflips are absolutely vital, is very funny to me.

i've always felt that Azem is solar-aspected, and it shows with azeyma being a fire based / sun-like goddess, so it stands that Venat and therefore Hydaelyn would as well. ties in well too with Zodiark being yknow, trapped on the moon

Regarding the Heated shots and their moves, it is confirmed during the Stormblood quest chain (when those abilities were introduced) that the WoL has been making up their own techniques and is teaching it to the new generation of machinists including Joy and Hilda. It's true of -every- job ability you don't learn from a Crystal, and even a few that have that animation. Dragoon invented all its abilities since Heavensward for example. As for it being connected to Hydaelyn... yeah, obviously. Luxwave is just a rename for Lightwave and SB's ult is Exodus, which is Hydaelyn's ult. Guy's got Hydy moves.

I think if you look at a lot of the new abilities we get over the course of Dawntrail, the level 100 ones in particular, they call back in some way to our experiences in Endwalker. Be it Hydaelyn, Zenos, Zodiark, Golbez, or even Zero and Vrtra. Maybe this is just head canon but I think, like you said with Machinist, this is the WOL taking over, instead of being taught by someone else. A kind of “You take it from here, kid” type of thing.

My canon on creating new job abilities is post job-related quests. The WoL has gone beyond the mastery of his teachers/peers at this point. So anything we learn later that doesn’t require us to talk to NPCs means we’ve effectively taught/inspired ourselves. Take SAM for example. We evolve the traits for our AoE rotation, we replace Hakaze(the starting action of all our combo rotations) with Gyofu surpassing the origin of our mentors attack actions. The enhanced traits just scream personal improvement and evolution for my WoL.

Thanks for digging, and I m quite convinced. In other hand, I also believe the solar baha take shapes from the most fierce being in our fighting at our level, in second trial, and make contrast to us each other. Who he walked a twisted path, lost everything he desired, to the answer of an empty force. By forgiveness and resolution, we confront him as the true possibility he might have.

Honestly this mostly just gives yet another case why we should have SOMETHING with the job quests again in some form. These aren’t just level checkpoints, these are often crucial bits of lore to explain and accompany our progression and journey. It doesn’t even need to be as extensive as the old questlines, but something at all would be nice. Personally im interested in the development of red mage being explained a bit more.
