I never really gave Star Trek much attention until my early 20s and I fell in love with the next generation, I was always a huge Star Wars fan and I was always under the belief that Star Trek was inferior, now I know to never be biased towards a franchise, which is why I can dress like the joker and still talk about how marvel movies are freaking awesome. The Orville is a great show and it deserves to have the longevity that TNG had

Hulu has canceled the Orville, it will only run for one season - S3, but there is more bad news, that the Orville may not be on at all. Due to complications created by the pandemic the crew and staff have been unable to return and filming has ground to a halt. Although Seth tried desperately to get it back on track to air for the 2021 season it is unlikely to happen, seeing that as of this date they are still not working on the show.

The Orviile was by far my favourite show in a very long time. I watch everything delayed but not the Orivile, I watched that as it was showing the first time. It was a glorious programme with characters we knew fast and cared about deeply. All of Star Trek after Voyager (sorry Enterprise - you broke too many time line rules) was just not Star Trek, but The Orvile started where Next Generation left off and it was marvelous! Then came season 3.... no longer tied to the hour format it would wander well past an hour and for the first time got really boring. Being bored by your favourite show is as unpleasant as being bored by your favourite show! I kept imagining in my head how to cut the crap out and get it back to 42 minute run time, and it was pretty easy for me but not for the actual show runners. It was still a good show but bloated week after week. I want season four but I want it back to being tightly run. If it goes long I don't want to feel every second drag out. But from what I hear the show is over Seth got what he wanted and is happy it was created but was always supposed to be a short lived thing. Too bad. Great cast with real talents and it was Star Trek where no Star Trek exists beyond DVDs of the good ol days.

Just started watching it. I think it is good. The effects are amazing, the episodes are well thought out. What I do not like is the humor. It is too modern, the jokes pertaining to our time. I prefer to think of a "dramedy" such as the Orville just plain realistic. The characters, by being able to keep a sense of humor, come closer to what most you and I would call normal life. We don't have Picards, Kirks and Janeways surrounding us. We've got deeply flawed people who can go a bit amock somehow joining together and making something greater than they are. Getting pissed off enough to call an alien judge a "dick" is a deeeeeply human thing to do. Oh... and don't forget that Gordon is legit the best pilot in the whole Union by a fair margin!

This is my absolute *favorite* show currently on. The abject disrespect of the fans by Discovery and Picard makes me ill. None of the violence, language, nudity, or other differences in modern Trek puts me off at all - except that it doesn’t feel like the hopeful vision of the future, with characters who Respect, Trust, and even feel Friendship towards each other. The original Trek characters were people you’d like to know, and the Enterprise was a fictional place you’d like to visit. And as a result, the fans felt a kinship to each other, and felt the drive to meet, have conventions, make the costumes, and share their love for what Trek used to be. What other TV show ever had that?? The two current Trek series are a slap in the face to these fans, like myself, and make us feel like Abrams and Kurtzman are going out of their way to tell us we’re no longer welcome. Long live The Orville!

The humor isnt crass but it is just as obvious as anything mcfarlane has ever written. The dialogue is just bad even if the plots and scifi ideas are interesting. Edit: the show also rips off too much from star trek.
