Jesus, I had forgotten just how remarkable this great man was.. I saw him live I think the same year as this and was transfixed.. then I got to spend a bit of time with him one afternoon while I was on contract in Hong Kong.. a beautiful human being, and we were blessed by his presence..

Each instrument speaks its own language, yet together, they converse in one harmonious eloquence. As if Peterson's fingers are dancing, with joy and melancholy. The bass is a like a dynamic heartbeat as anchor while the drums add a rainy, hazy depth to the narrative. Even the audience's hushed reverence, and at times rapturous applause adds to this album's mood. Their arrangements are incredibly imaginative, and the execution is just top-notch - the vitality and vibrancy of this performance defies language's capabilities. This has to be one of the trio's best live gigs, and it's evident how the Japanese audience, known for their dedication to jazz, adores the swing on the stage.

One of the trio’s best live-gigs. The Japanese are dedicated jazz followers, as you can hear folks. Superb swingin’ stuff that makes you feel alive. So enjoy the ride, G’day & Cheers!

This record is something else. One can only imagine the amount of preparation that must have gone into this performance, including all the other concerts in the lead-up to this event. Incredibly thought-through, imaginative arrangements; masterfully executed on top of that. It listens as if a whole orchestra was playing, from start to finish. And Peterson's command of the piano here just beggars description - especially the way he handles dynamic changes, also the transparency with which voices are being led. Plus, some of his solos are simply stratosferic! Not only the pace is impressive, but how clearly articulated they are as well.

I saw him live in 1960 on a British tour. There was a belief that he had concentrated on technique too much over the need to swing, but I never believed that and this performance from a few years later showed that brilliant technique - he seemed to get notes from the cracks between the keys - as well as wonderful jazz feeling.

The best performance from them ever and my favorite jazz record of all time, because of your video i know this album exists and ordered it from japan yesterday. The state-side record released in the united states had to been the one the tour in the late 80s (87 i believe, which its still a good recording but nothing compared to this)

An hour and forty minutes of eargasm. This trio was so tight! I don’t mean only in the sense of being of one mind and soul (which is patently clear), but also literally: they positioned themselves so close to each other that it would have been impossible to find a way through.
