Hard to watch this. It's not just her disability, it's the strength of her reaction. She's screaming and crying so hard that she can barely breathe. It's feels so real. It really is heart wrenching. This is what they mean when they say it felt like the world had ended. For her, it really had.

As much as I felt bad for her, I still really felt bad for him, he didn't understand even the average person doesn't just announce those things on stage like that. He probably thought he was just telling everyone how much they loved each other (especially if he was drinking, mixed with what he has) he probably didn't realize there was going to be a negative reaction.

@Jessica Catareia umm sweetie I am very aware that the two actors are NOT handicapped. This is actually one of my favorite movies. Two, obviously the comment to whom I was responding to isn’t there. Three, last time I check I have a right to voice my opinion, I may could’ve used better choice of words but that doesn’t mean I can’t speak my point of view. Four, you must really be bored out of your mind because I’ve never responded to your comment a MONTH AGO, to a comment I said a YEAR AGO? Why are you wanting to talk more to me again? Can I help YOU ma’am? 💯🙏🏾😁

@Jessica Catareia Also if you have to feel “ defensive” of my rebuttal to your comment then maybe having serious discussions isn’t your forte. That’s fine. I’m all for a good debate but only if both parties are able to listen and understand one another. If one person can’t then the point is lost. 💯

I saw this movie as a kid and this scene was always so upsetting to me. There’s nothing I hate more than seeing someone humiliated, and I felt for Carla in that moment, especially being laughed at her whole life. And poor Daniel not realizing that what he said wasn’t a good thing and not knowing how to handle his fear of her family with no one else there to support him. I know people critiqued this movie a lot but I’ve always loved it and the ending. 💕

I've always been abhorred by ignorance and people who treat the physically and mentally disabled people like shit.. I'll always remember the mentally challenged couple that lived in my area.. They were the only ones (coupled that is), and they weren't the smartest people.. What I remember most about them when I picked them up walking home was how generously kind they were, and how much they loved each other.. That's all that really matters in this world.

Thing about this scene is, they weren’t laughing at them because they were disabled, but because they so flagrantly trespassed upon forbidden social norms and decorum. Perhaps the way Daniel expressed it was amusing, but their laughter wasn’t meant to demean them. They were fully respectful until he crossed the line into brutal, hilariously embarrassing territory.

I have to admit seeing Carla cry like that and Daniel getting angry the way he did when he was apologizing for his actions is just so heartbreaking. I don’t understand why people laughed. They all look about 40... big deal they had sex why is that funny? They did an amazing job.

I think they were laughing at them "doing it" because the both of them are special needs. And they probably knew that he was drunk when he announced that. You know, this movie is called "The Other Sister", with 3 sisters named Caroline, Heather, and Carla. Caroline is a dedicated underachiever, Heather is a gay workaholic, and Carla is special needs. When you first watch this movie, you'll think that Carla is the other sister, but as you watch it some more, you'll wonder which of the 3 girls is really the other sister, until you decide for yourself that each girl is the other sister in their own right.
