I’m a GX owner for the same reason I believe most of us are. I’ve owned BMWs, a Land Rover, a couple Benzs and a SAAB and all were massive piles of complicated trash with cliff diving depreciation and skyrocketing service costs. The GX works all day every day in any weather and any terrain while holding its resale value and never needing attention. I look at my 15-16mpg as a reliability tax. We don’t want fail prone GDI or turbos. We want simple 90’s Toyota truck reliability and capability paired with a quiet, high quality interior. Just update the goddamn screen UI and leave the rest alone. Except add the TRD Pro style GXOR package. There would be one in every driveway from Denver to Ouray within a year.

Just purchased a 2021 Lexus GX 460 3 weeks ago Traded a 2021 toyota 4 runner limited in reason for trade dislike 6 cylinder wanted a v8. So let me start by saying my life long back ground on suv are v8 Landrover over 20 years body on frame type truck /vehicle for me hard to break away from I truly think this type of set up makes you feel like your driving something not like a bmw /land rover unibody that feels feather light for some reason I don’t like I also traded a BMW X5 in this year due to to much dealer visits so this leads me to a Lexus 460 for never to have to see a dealer again for unreliable junk .Just maybe for a tire rotation or a occasional oil change at a Lexus dealer . As for styling I never even put a age on the GX 460 never even thought that it was a 9 plus year design maybe it’s timeless as far as the apple car play who really needs it I have had it in several newer cars to really not even use I’m not a fan of my phone connected to my vehicle for two reason I love music so no interruptions for me to just to talk so I never add a phone to my cars and I don’t want to have my passengers to see my friends txting me on a screen just my thoughts on apple car play who needs it over rated .so for the v8 fuel economy no difference from a under powered 6 banger to a smooth v8 that runs effortless in a mountain state also better for towing so I say these small displacement engine are going to age and fall apart due to run hard and over worked so you will have to repair or just buy a stealer v8 engine that may consume a little bit more and never need repair gas is cheaper is my thoughts over the long haul.to the back door it a favorite to me reminds me of my Land Rover disco that I loved and never wanted to part with easy to use so maybe Lexus really has make the best GX 460 EVER ..

The reasons to buy the GX, V8, full time 4 wheel drive with center differential lock, 6 speed auto, butter smooth suspension with KDSS standard. This is why I bought my 2018, then immediately swapped in a Sonoran Steel/Radflo extreme flex suspension. The vehicle is still butter smooth but amazing on FS and unimproved roads where the factory suspension would have not performed as well.

I’ve owned G500s, Land Rovers, BMWs, you name it, and I ended up buying this cause I want a tough off roader that’s comfortable, simple, reliable and nice to drive around in. It’s the type of vehicle a mature car guy gets to drive his family and himself around all day every day every where.

I currently own a 2020 luxury GX the mpg and Performance improved noticeably after add a K&N air filter. Just my experience. The factory overly engineered air filter seems to be preventing trash from entering the engine but restricting air flow greatly. Trade clean engine horrible mpg.

May 2021 l checked prices on east coast, min. msrp comes out of door for around 60K. That’s not the price you want to pay for structurally year 2010 SUV. (Used market). On the other hand, my friend got new rx350L ( 7 seater) AWD for less than 50K out of door. On it’s third row you you can seat small adults and kids up to 14.

@@KirkKreifels for the city scenarios, usually they sell more RX than the GX. 90% driving happens on paved roads and gas prices passing $4 a gallon too. GX; l am considering to buy from used market as my second car, simply l can’t justify 60K price tag for the car that structurally still a year 2010

AT tires actually improve the steering IMO.. make it safe. I swear the Prado wasn’t designed for extra grippy super responsive tires. AT tires slow the steering response to where it should be IMO.

This is a Toyota LC70-150 (Prado) underneath. It has proved itself over and over in countries where the roads are terrible, just like its bigger brother the GXR and little bro Hilux. Not to mention the badass 70 series. The Lexus' base comes from an established, refined set of cars. A family tree line. Add a Lexus badge and modern comforts and bam, I'm sold. No surprise here. And yes, amazing seating position on these cars.

Pretty fair review IMO. Only thing I'll chime in on is that I think (objectively) that the GX is more than enough for the average American family size- luggage included. Though for me personally, I'd still probably go one size up as a WANT rather than a need.

If you don’t like the outdated things buy a different car don’t ruin the gx’s by giving it a whole new engine, well maybe newer infotainment would be nice, but this is what the go is known for don’t ruin it

Kirk, When it comes to tailgates, please be careful about what you wish for. In other markets the Prado's spare tire is mounted on the tailgate (FJ style) which allows for increased fuel capacity as well as increased convenience when the spare must be accessed. In other words, if you want a CUV tailgate, buy a CUV. ;-)

So many Millenials only care whether or not a vehicle has cup holders and an info-tainment system, and don't have a clue about what a vehicle is supposed to be. I've heard some ask the most basic knowledge questions about engines and drivelines.

The issue is the fuel economy. I'd stick with rx350 which is super quiet, smooth and stylish. I think people get this is simply because it's big. However, the functionality doesn't compete with rx 350 unless you want to off-road and tow (which many buyers don't do). Thanks for the share!

The only thing they should add is an engine tune that works on regular and put real buttons on the dash for A/C on/off, vent mode and fan control. The volume and tune dials could also be a little bigger with rough sides. Also have MTS and crawl control available on all models. It is crazy that you have to go to the $70,000 version before they will let you add a feature that is off road oriented. The trend of everything working off of a huge touch screen is bad. It's much more difficult to make adjustments without looking when the controls are touch screen.
