For some reason, comments on this video were set to "Hold all for Review." That isn't my default, so it must have been a glitch. It's fixed now. And I couldn't see the held comments due to what appears to be a common KZitem bug. I finally saw them in the iPad Studio app.

This is one of my favorite MFT lenses. Like you say the versatility is great and I find it sharp and bright. My favorite Lumix primes are the P Leica15 f1.7 and the 42.5 you reviewed. I find that, together with using my feet, that those two are my most important primes!

I just purchased and received this lens a couple days ago. The 1st surprise is the small size and light weight. The lens is very sharp. I haven’t experienced the purple fringing mentioned in the comments below. A disappointment. There are no aperture stops on the lens barrel. To tell the truth I didn’t see the click stops in the video and nobody told me they would be there. I like this feature on a lens though. Many LUMIX lenses lack this feature. How much better is the Leica 42.5 lens? Faster. Better built. Better lens coatings. At the cost of size, weight, and price. The Leica 42.5 new retails for ~$1000. I paid $200 for my lumix lens. I’m happy to have saved the money. Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)

Lovely images. Well done, thank you. I am enjoying your videos. One thing I appreciate is that you speak to the person who might have financial constraints. You also value gear that, although worthy, is not the latest. Cheers.

Hi Todd, nice job and I‘m enjoying for your fantastic pictures and music. I own 42.5 f1.7 for four month and it comes with me everyday, this is a gem for portraits.and wildlife especially for flowers and plants with brilliant colour and amazing bokeh! You’ll get dramatic pictures with Raynox DCR-150 or 250 Macro Conversion Lens.

Thank you for the info. Yes, I've considered those lenses. The cost is a bit more than I want to spend for occasional use.

Hi Todd. Do you like the close-up lens over an extension tube? Were the bug shots taken on the close-up lens?
@ToddBannor
Ай бұрын
I used extension tubes with Canon. Using them with a macro lens gets you really close. But I don't' have a dedicated MFT macro lens and don't plan on getting one, so close-up lenses work for me. But in this video, I think I just used the 42.5mm as is, because it focuses quite close for a non-macro lens.

@@ToddBannor gotcha. I have this lens but never knew the mFD until I watched your video. Thanks for the insightful content and please keep them coming!

What would that add on glass be called if I am looking on the camera stores’ websites? I’ve never seen any of the other reviewers mention such an accessory and it sounds like must have as the Texas wildflowers are just weeks away… thanks!

Sorry, for the delayed response. For some reason your comment got held for review and there was a KZitem bug that kept me from seeing it. Here’s a link to it on B&H: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/10069-REG/B_W_65023331_37mm_Close_up_NL_2.html Looks like it’s back-ordered and the price has gone up since I bought mine.

@@jimtrotter4800 I have the same lens and bought a close-up lens. Depending on how much magnification you get with a specific close-up screw on lens, the combination takes you close to macro work. But yeah maybe a bit soft on the edges as said. That combination was my "macro" lens until I bought the Olympus 60. Think of the close up lens like another kind of screw on filter like ND or CPL...just the kind that gets talked about least on KZitem.....

I had one. Sold it because it has a tendency to have purple fringing and weird artifcats when the background is busy. But I liked it a lot because of its close focus distance. I replaced it with the Olympus 45mm which has a far less artifactsq. The Oly has a minimal focus distance of half a meter and as such is not as versatile.

Interesting. I've never noticed that with mine. Could be copy variation, which happens from time to time, but I'll check mine.

@@ToddBannor It was an old version (got it second hand). Maybe it has been fixed ? In his review of the 42.5 Gordon Laing is showing the fringing. But it was back in 2015.

@@laurentyarp514 Yes, it's possible Panasonic fixed that but didn't admit it was an issue in the first place. I bought an early Canon 70-300 DO zoom lens and it was awful, so I returned it. Others had the same experience. I tried again about two years later and that one was really good except for some weirdness in out of focus areas due to the diffractive optics. I could live with that. Canon never admitted anything was wrong.

Hi Todd, I have to take pictures at a first comunion in a church, do you recommend this lens for the kids portraits? I ‘have a GH5 and I intend to buy a lens of such focal distance for this pictures, it has to have a good aperture and I hope the 1.7 will be enough
