They all have such a patchwork of aspects it makes me wonder just how many gods there were initally. When a god dies, does their image fade into obscurity, or is it cannibalized?

It is not clear if Eoran deities can die as such as they most certainly can in most D&D settings. It is not a bad question.

Any attempts to answer that question would involve major spoilers from Pillars of Eternity 1 & 2. Have you played those games?

I really enjoyed this one, for reasons you're well aware of, and I thank you for diving into this. This pantheon is perhaps my favorite in fantasy, so I'm certainly looking forward to spoiler content, but I hope this serves to induct newcomers in an admittedly better way than Pillars manages. For as important as the pantheon is, context is perhaps harder to find than it should be, and I think even the spoiler content will offer up information that many people won't encounter unless they exhaustively search the world and reload a hundred or so conversations.

I'm not familiar with POE/Avowed lore and as such greatly appreciate these videos. Looking forward to more of this.

Deadfire devs really made a mistake by portraying them so plainly. That one scene in the first game really helped round out the ending, and having them ALL manifest in a concrete way in a single game took away a lot of the mystery.

I disagree. Everything the gods chose to show you in Deadfire is theatrics. Even the parts of them arguing are all designed to sway you to their ideals when in reality their discussions were done before you ever arrive at the In-Between. Therefore, there is no true canon appearance to the gods even though we've literally been shown manifestations of them.

Well done with the video. It is extremely difficult to talk about the gods and Pillars Of Eternity/Avowed without offering spoiler information. In reality it is difficult to talk about any of the more complex aspects of the lore without fully divulging the story and related details. Based on what I have seen so far I would guess you plan on gradually releasing spoiler based videos as we all ramp up towards the released of Avowed? This was definitely a good overview for people unfamiliar with the setting though and your work is appreciated.

Thanks for the comment and the kind words. Absolutely. It is nigh impossible to understand the setting without addressing the core concepts and the secrets of the gods. Some people will have played through both Pillars and know the deal, whilst others will have not and I suspect most people starting Avowed will not have played either if only because the likelihood of Obsidian via Microsoft money trying to pull in a bigger crowd is fairly great. In any event, non-spoiler videos cannot hurt for the uninitiated and there will definitely be more spolier videos down the line and more more lore in general regarding Avowed. Thanks again for the support.

I am so grateful you produced this entire series. I have tried playing PoE many times since it was originally released, but I always had a challenging time wrapping my head around the setting's lore. I am just so familiar with the lore of Faerûn that Eora confused me, and it took me out of the game. I never really progressed past (maybe) the first third of the game. Now that I have a better understanding of the geography, cultures and religions of Eora, I think I can go back and finally complete the game. Thank you!

I'm at the point in PoE 1 where I need to pray to one of the gods for assistance... this video really helped me do some research without returning to my library at caed nua! My character is an orlan druid philosopher, wael is who he's drawn to, if he even believes in gods at all, but I may be out of favor with wael considering I DID return the book to the priestess of wael! Liked and subscribed, thank you!

I think THIS is the main reason I got so invested in POEs lore. The gods.

I just started playing Pillars. These videos help in refreshing my mind in the lore. Sometimes, the lore is overwhelming, and certain details get lost when I can't recall a named country, race, god, town, group, or specific character.

Bereth makes me think that the dev's of this game got the idea of Lathander from D&D and Karla from Record of Lodoss War. Just the grey armor makes me think of the anime.

The pantheon of gods they created for this world, is probably my favorite of any fantasy game.

I am very curious to see how you are going handle the spoilerish lore of the setting. I myself am a big fan of the Pillars setting. Great video.
