Fun fact. The palace in nonsuch park had a beam which was actually put into my house. Some of the people who worked with Henry the 8th used to live in my house.

Well now you are in the Village I lived in. As a boy in the Nineteen thirties, I used to run all over this Park exploring and making camps to hide in. Watched the start of a new road, dual concrete with pedestrian underpasses that were to replace the south-circle road in 1939 As far as I know still there, abandoned. married in Nonsuch Mansion... By the way, I liked the Reigate fort restoration last seen by me about 1960.in a dreadful mess number 4 in the line I was lold it was the headquarters of the Home-guard in the 2nd world war for the town

Oh wond'rous moon with silvery sheen!Who throws its light upon East Cheam, From lofty height, and through the mist,Two o'clock Friday, chiropodist. How did that get in?! Where's the last line of my poem?Griselda Pugh: I rubbed it out to make room for the chiropodist appointment. You know you can't get your boots on if you leave your corns for more than a week! ( sorry Richard saw Cheam in the title and couldn't resist a little hancock "

Nonsuch Park is actually in the borough of Epsom and Ewell, not Sutton and Cheam. Hope that is not too pedantic. However, residents of Cheam have nothing like the Nonsuch "countryside" area in their own borough and are heavily dependent on this park which neighbours Cheam. In fact, in the 1930s, Nonsuch Park was compulsorily purchased with the London boroughs in mind, the GLC having paid the most to acquire it.

Not at all pedantic - we are there to be corrected. I am always making errors so rely on the viewers who know more than me to put us right.

I just stumbled upon this great video. I grew up in this area and went to school (Stoneleigh East Secondary) on the other side of the road from there. When quite young I remember the escavations of Nonsuch Palace... and we were told that in grease run off in the pipes below a kitchen, a preserved rat was found. As you see, that made a lasting impression! Thanks Richard.

England's idea of a hunting lodge = a castlle🏰 America's idea of a hunting lodge = a log cabin (perhaps a 2 story just to consider it a "lodge")

Marq mention the London Outer Orbital Path (LOOP). This is a footpath running 150 miles, from Edith to Purfleet. It is spilt in to 24 sections. I live about 200 meters from section 22.

I love the videos you do with Marq. Have always wanted to visit Nonsuch, especially after the Time Team dig there many years ago. BTW, when I watched this it was preceded by an ad for the Lion King, and then you two popped up in the Savannah of deepest Cheam, soon to be followed by a shot if a Rhinoceros lumbering by!
