The “Pat Metheny Lick” has been discussed many times before, but I’m always looking for new ideas to inspire myself and my students to LEARN. It’s never easy waking up in the morning and thinking to yourself, “YES!!! I am going to practice my intervals…” Because this subject can become a bit tedious at times I am offering my opinion on where Pat Metheny possibly created one of his very cool and much used melodic phrases using intervals. It differs from some videos I’ve seen on KZitem, but I’m confident in my thoughts on this one. My main point here is to teach intervals. I discuss 5th’s, 7th’s, 10th’s and how when you play these intervals at the same time you get a root position 7th chord. This is a great lick to learn because it can really teach you a lot of valuable musical information.
I highly recommend these 3 Pat Metheny books:
Pat Metheny Guitar Etudes - Book: amzn.to/3sNujfY
Pat Metheny Song Book - amzn.to/363fNa8
Pat Metheny Trio - Live Book - amzn.to/3c6Z7Tc
