Are you teaching the kids contemplative prayer? Unfortunately, my daughter was in the audience. This is not biblical. Show me the verses where Jesus says to pray this way. You won’t find them. It is a mystical practice originating in Eastern Mysticism adopted by ancient Catholics and brought into the church through mystic “Christians.” “Speak Lord your servant is listening” is Samuel’s (who was a prophet called by God to be a prophet) response to God’s AUDIBLE voice! It is NOT a prescription of how we heard God today. This is God speaking to Samuel for Samuel not us. Hebrews 1:1-2 says “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has (notice past tense) spoken (past tense)to us by his Son..” He has already spoken which means this truth of His word is finished, and the scriptures are the completion of what He has said. To say He is still speaking, means the scriptures are not finished. God speaks in his word. That’s how we hear Him. If we want to hear the voice of God we read our Bibles, instead of trying to contemplate some voice in our head that may or may not be God. Demons also speak in voices and nudging. Be careful. You are teaching to rely on your subjective feelings. This is very dangerous. And when Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice” He was speaking of himself being the gospel of salvation. You said “hearing” yes this is hearing with your heart the message of the gospel. His sheep hear Him through the gospel not small still voices in your head! Please do your our research. Find out the sources of these mystical occult contemplative prayer practices. Just because you were taught it doesn’t mean it is biblical. Be a good Berean and do your research.
