I assumed that the plague's height was one of the reasons she was so revered as a priestess, surely one standing so far above their peers must be closer to god? A personal theory about the Plague that a few of my friends and I work with is this: After the Entity approached her in the cave, it offered that if she sacrifice the blasphemers and the infidels, it would cure and help her followers. So Adiris kills and sacrifices survivors to this god because she thinks that with each death, her precious Babylon is saved bit by bit, and that she has made the decision to embrace this life of sacrifice and servitude so that many others may live. But that's mostly head canon.

It gives her such a statuesque appearance that lends well to her being a priestess that was adored by all. And I love how proper she is, despite her current situation. How straight her posture is, how graceful yet imposing her walk cycle is, the way she holds her senser and how she raises her whole body up before barfing. I adore Adiris - she's the character that got me into DBD and the strange lore behind it. It's so pleasing to see a video based on her - there's a lot of thought that went into this, and I loved every minute of it. The delightful analysis and observations gave me plenty to chew on, while still showing adoration for just how unique Plague is - design-wise, lore-wise, mechanic-wise, everything. I do have something to add, though - some questions were posed, ideas mentioned, that I wanted to offer an opinion on. Much of this was delved into when doing research on the Babylonian/Sumerian/Akkadian religion, trying to figure out Plague's motivations, since the devs left it essentially unsaid. (This is in no way an expert opinion on ancient history, just an observation based on readily available sources.) She started out an orphan, abandoned on the steps of the temple - this right here is important. In order to cope with the abandonment by her parents, she needed to believe the gods had a plan for her. Now, her religion differs from many modern ones in that it was polytheistic - there are many gods that had favour with various cities within Mesopotamia, as well as different interpretations based on their inhabitants. From what I can tell, the referenced sea-goat is Ea, a prominent god of wisdom and water, thought to be a friend of humanity and with widespread worship. It was to this god her prayers were, wanting to heal, to protect, to use her faith to help all those people who put their faith in her. That god didn't appear to listen, and her refusal to accept this (the 'Lack of Accountability' section in the video put it perfectly) created a unique set of circumstances for a priestess. And so, in her darkest, most desperate hour, she called to another god, one that, in her mind, might be a better fit for what she had done, the deaths she caused inadvertently through being a carrier of plagues and diseases, spreading mayhem and death to the cities she visited in her quest to protect and heal. Her addons (the tablets and amulets) gave me the clues - they mention that they are talismans, prayers, to a god of pestilence and mayhem that are inscribed to ward off sickness and disease. There is, in fact, a god specifically of disease and war, death, destruction, and plagues whose name is invoked on ancient tablets and talisman excavated from the ruins of Kutha (Modern day Tel-Ibrahim). He is called Nergal. Her faith never wavered. It simply changed hands. Now she willingly infects people with her plague, now she offers the flesh of the unfaithful in sacrifice to her god, the only god, that gave her what she so desperately wanted - the belief that at least one god _did_ have a plan for her. Else, she was just the orphan, unwanted. She became the Plague, her holy mission the spreading of the disease that now defines her, and continues to torment her in her failures, reaffirming the cruelty of the Entity. It would have been too easy and tempting for the Entity to feed on the combination of despair and faith Adiris possessed, the grief of a woman who, deep down, was an abandoned orphan desperately searching for meaning. The Entity fed on this, the deaths of devoted followers writhing around her feet, and the black fog hissed out of her censer in her last, desperate prayer. Is the Entity Nergal? Probably not, but to a desperate priestess looking for meaning and a god, would it matter? Tl;dr SHE SERVES PAPA NURGLE (Also - her great height might be a reference to ancient depictions of gods being portrayed as much larger than humans in her faith, as well as being a design choice for elegance, poise, and game mechanics)

I think many players naturally find the Plague offputting because she's supposed to look gross and sickly. People simp for Huntress because she's still conventionally attractive apart from likely smelling like an abattoir having lived feral for years but Adiris they feel less inclined to do this with so that factors into her popularity (likewise with her being mechanically more complex with how the corrupt purge works.) I like this aspect to her though, you can still tell she was once a youthful and beautiful person that has been corrupted by her sickness, if they just made her pretty outright without the sores and boils I feel that would take a lot away from her showing how sad her story is and how she suffers.

Because she was on the brick of death, I believe she finds the Entity to be the Mesopotamian Goddess of Death and the Underworld - Ereshkigal. The Sea-Goat, is also a primary god named Enki, sometimes likened to being Ereshkigal's father or brother. When the twitter account for DBD/BHVR state she willingly gave herself to the Entity, I truly believe she thought she was entering Irkalla, the Underworld and is still serving these gods. For her height and appearance, the Entity twist appearances of those unwilling, I think at first she was unwilling to kill people, even if sacrifices knew ancient times were supposed to be considered honorable. Definitely could've made her taller - she saw a statue of a goddess when she was younger and took it as a sign, no? Consider it Inanna/Ishtar goddess of love & beauty. Inanna is the sister of Ereshkigal and said to be the Queen of the Heavens, the opposite of Ereshkigal, who at one time went ahead and had slain Inanna, only for Inanna to have been revived by command of Enki, the Sea Goat/primary God. I think if you put mire effort into researching Babylonian (and Sumerian) mythology, you would've gotten a little more info also about Adiris being the way she is/was. (I am an art history with a love of Mesopotamian culture, so I thought I'd share). :)

The entity does boost their sizes, The Shape is from the original movie, in which he was nearly the same height as Laurie Strode. Their clothes just "grow with them" because the Entity can warp aspects of reality. Another thing to point out is all killers, even the ones that seem average, have been changed to be larger. The Legion are all teenagers, yet stand taller than fully grown men like Ash Williams and Adam Francis. Same goes for The Spirit, she's just an average Japanese woman, yet her height in game is unnaturally tall even with her hair not counting into the equation. The Pig is another good example. Shawnee Smith is 5'3" while her character model again stands at about The Spirit's height (when using good posture). Clothing, their weapons, their masks and belongings, these all get scaled up along with them for sake of convenience, but also to make them imposing. I know there is a reason gameplay-wise, but I also believe thoroughly that these killers have been made into the Entity's personal "Titans". Also, meant to say, Plague is one of my go to killers, so its great seeing her get some spotlight (: excellent video!

I think what it is that the entity corrupts some of the killers further and so they change physically. The wraith and the doctor as well as the blight for example appear to have been manipulated by the entity. Ie, the blight was just a chemist until he was taken by the entity and injected himself with the blight. The doctor was normal physically and hadn’t gone insane, he just disappeared and likely did all of that to himself after he was taken by the entity. I think the longer one is in the entity’s realm the more corrupted they become.

I think plague actually fills two archetypes pretty smoothly. 1 the religious fanatic and 2 the poison/disease guy. both popular in mainstream horror

The spirit was innocent too, she defended herself against bullies but didn't kill them

Ooohhh YT sent me this delicious bit of Plague appreciation! And I'm beyond grateful. She was the first killer I bought bc of her graceful posture and chic outfit. I live for that headpiece. And the sound of her vomiting (no shame, okay). I kinda liked her aesthetic, religious themes in words like corruption, devotion, purge, demise, faith, etc. Infected side of her body and remnants of healthy skin on her face is a beautiful touch as well. That was before I learned of her Lore. And after reading it I knew, she is my favourite killer out of all, bc her story is not your typical blood thirsty killer origin. Also, her being devoted to the cause even in death just got me. BUT. I used to ask myself why was she approached by Entity if all she did was healing people and giving them faith, like how is she a killer. It never clicked for me until I watched your video. The killer is THE PLAGUE. Like the literal plague that practically devoured Adiris in the end. Now I feel dumb, really. Adiris, due to her status and mission, played a part of a conduit between the Plague and the Entity, and held hostage in their everlasting pact. And it truly IS tragic. Thank you for bringing us this piece of love to the High Priestess of Babylon

Her sounds are simple but there’s so much detail to them and just a lot of sound in general I hate hearing her choke on the vomit but her chants and whispers are noice

I wish plague was like that vampire lady from yugioh where every person she sacrifices, it brings a person from her kingdom back

Also, the Plague actually does fulfill a simple want, on top of her complex design "I want the priest of a cult"

I think the ORIGINAL way of her being a killer was that she continued with the rituals and hid that she had the plague from her followers effectively spreading it faster because everyone was coming to her. Then behavior came out with the tome story and had her kill her father figure because she heard a whisper…

I wouldn't say that the plague never hurt anyone, she did spread the plague across Babylon, and if not she hastened it, hence the entity coming for her. She may have had good intentions but she has been hurting people with those for a long time. (as far as I know this is head cannon)

I feel as if Adiris is not really a villain because she was so kind and so caring. I believe that even though she is a a killer as we think she was probably more pure than any survive. All she strove to do was help and in the end she was forever changed because of that.
