More people need to know about this event, there's still lessons to be learnt from it today

That was wonderfully narrated. I had never heard of the Peterloo massacre and I have learned something today which was both interesting and shocking at the same time. You make history very interesting.

What spooked the authorities was that people were asking for the right to vote.

Thankyou for bringing this to our remembrance, and for the sombre tone and presentation. Fitting, serious and respectful. Very well done. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 If I may, this day is but one of many in our history of the development of democracy, and democracy, is in my view not yet all it could be. We see in our history the growth out of one man rule, to representative rule, yet it was never meant to be a dual party system. The two party system developed due to the banking fraternity, which garantees some get wealthy and the rest pay, and so two parties arise under these conditions, those who wish to maintain the status quo, and those who seek to redistribute the wealth. Fix the monetary evils and we can return to independent local representatives. Further, having progressed from the rule of power, (kings and fudal Lords, barons prelates etc) to landed gentry voting, to then all men voting and then men and women, (egalitarianism) where we do not measure the voter, but simply bestow upon everyone a 'right' to an equal say ) other than convicted criminals, let us consider the justice or injustice of the present practices. Is it just to give an 18 year old, who has contributed nothing to society as yet, the same say as someone who has paid taxes for 40 years. You don't do it in a home, or a business or a company, (because it doesn't work and wouldn't be just) so why do it in a country? I propose we give weight to votes, based on contribution. I propose no vote until we have paid taxes for 8 years. Then, for every 8 years of contribution, our vote take one greater weight. So someone who has worked and paid taxes for 8 years has 1 vote, and someone who has paid tax for 40 years has a vote worth 5. In this way we practice justice, in that we honour those who have contributed more, as we rightly should, and we give voting a value, its proper value, that it isnt for free. We should also institute citizens initiated referendums.

This extremely important in history. Because this is where people died for their freedom. Manchester is very important in English history and world history as well. The question was is it worth it.We must say yes if we want to change our society. It’s sad that people’s lives must be taken in order to survive totalitarianism.Thank you Alice for this very important information.

Join the English Constitution Society's Sites of England Historic Interest Tour! 25th August 2024 Why was this event so important? Because working class people didn't have the vote and died so that YOU could have it. Don't sit at home come a long and celebrate the English and what we stood for. The British murdered men, women and children. The British literally stabbed us to death.
