It's always a special treat to find another conversation with Aurel Bacs. I appreciate his views for his intelligence, politeness, and extensive knowledge and experience which place him at the pinnacle of guests to invite.

Aurel confirmed a lot about what I was thinking regarding the watch industry and independents. I would love to hear a follow-on video focusing on what makes the smaller independents so great from a heuristic perspective in depth. For example, the movements and other he finishing.

Very nice watch talk. Couldn't agree more with Auriel and George about the importance to brand consistency in watchmaking. Collectors are more and more informed nowadays. Ficticious "limited" editions seems not to work so well anylonger.

I like the WatchBox team and their content, but this is what I hear whenever they put George on camera: "Journe Journe Journe Journe Journe Journe Journe Journe Journe . . . "

In my opinion, from the results we have seen in auction where new watches are selling multiples over their retail, it is not encouraging and it cannot be called a totally honest market. The latest example is the green 5711 that sold for a very silly price, only to find out the sale was fixed. I am very sure there are many more sales like this. Would you consider Jean Claude Biver's collection as pure love, he knew ahead of time regarding appreciation in price. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed listening to Aurel, was an interesting and entertaining show

That is why Moser lost me: limited edition dials that then appeared in a different model. Sold all of mine and will never buy another much as I like Edouard.

@@Hoss_D I see. My concern with Moser is their newer releases seem split between entry-level Pioneers and ultra high-end tourbillons, which to me seem pointless. My sweet spot is the mid-range $20K to $50K, and they don't seem to be doing much there, having discontinued the Venturer and Swiss Alp lines. I'll still be hanging on to my Venturer Concept Small Seconds XL Arctic Blue and Streamliner Matrix Green though 😉

@@davidjb3671 Yeah a bit of an overreaction on my part but I was sorely disappointed in that part of their philosophy. I expected Edouard to be perhaps a bit less corporate. I'll stick with my Journes and Gauthiers for now I guess. My loss, really, as Mosers are beautiful, no doubt.

Every brand is independent before being bought (or sold!) by a conglomerate, so people tend to forget that Blancpain, Panerai and others were independent back in the eighties...!

The comparison btwn Mr. Journe and Picasso is invalid. Supply for Picasso pieces are literally 0 with his passing. Where as Journe's design and blue print is already there, there can be many ilterations of the Resonance after Journe's passing.

Of course you could start a new nation, the most famous one being "Launched" circa 1776. Every Brand has to start somewhere. Imagine A.L. Bregue, or Messr's Patek, and Philippe. Joules Ademar, Edward Pigue. They were the F.P Journe's of the 19th century.

My biggest concern with FP Journe is that it is a" one man Brand" even though it has a big group behind..., and also that one company is controlling princes in secondary market... don't think is sustainable.. the comparison with Ferrari does not apply because it needed a complete rebranding and lot's of money after Mr Enzo died...

Great designer who only makes a small handful of watches and caterers to the elites by default, yet the dumb watch nerds think FPJ is the shit. Ugliest old man watches like petaks are exactly the reason Rolex is the biggest and most sought by general population by a wide margin. This is a fucking joke FPJ is a fucking joke...no Rolex actually does not make the prettiest watches. It’s the companies like FPJ Patek IWC Langer make the ugliest pieces and prices that only billionaire can afford...yet the more scarce they are the more public believe they are better. Same thing is happening with Rolex as we speak.
