nothing wrong with beauty pageants, however, it becomes ridiculously obsessive for many filipinos...filipinos should focus on math, science, english and athletics......beauty pageants are archaic yet entertaining...but most filipinos today are just plain crazed fanatics of an event that doesnt really improve the lives of many...

In my opinion, I don't see beauty pageants as a problem. I think filipinos just enjoy it. And with pageants, such as Miss Universe, women are encouraged to voice their opinions and support a cause that can better their community. Plus, the interview portion of the pageant shows that it's not just about having a pretty face. It's about the total package... how eloquent you are, if you're a good speaker, what you can do to make a difference, etc. Plus, in general, I think filipinos already focus on science (and others) as you mentioned above. In California alone, 20% of all registered nurses are filipino. Idk, that's just my opinion haha, coming from someone who is filipino, does beauty pageants, but is also studying to be a nurse 😂💞tbh I just think filipinos enjoy pageants

I was talking about the purpose of pageants in general, and I provided statistics to back up what I was saying when I referenced what the person originally said about how "filipinos should focus on science, etc." I just gave an example that showed that filipinos already do in my opinion.

@@siemprebuen7805 There's nothing wrong with the pageant as it has many good advocacy. He was talking about Filipino who are too fanatic. Being obsessed to something is not good and he has the point. Its good for entertainment but doesn't help individually. Even Catriona need to work hard to achieve her dreams and I hope she will be an example to majority of filipino.

It’s kinda bad, because the people become so competitive with the other nationalities, to the point of being rude and disrespectful. This whole war between countries especially Asian countries like indonesia Thailand and Philippines is just ridiculous. It’s not healthy anymore, it’s not pride, it’s arrogance and for pure vanity reasons. I do watch pageants and support our candidates but I’m impartial and don’t get into petty fights just because of differences in our opinions. We can support our representative but remember to foster respect in diversity, and cultivate a friendly and healthy competition.

Animal Lovers well it won’t be a problem when nobody started it. But it seems like some countries loves to compare themselves with others. There is a big difference between comparing and learning.

Timothy Grey yeah especially when suddenly someone wants to claim the winner is from their country because she was born and raised there before she moved to the Philippines as a teenager. Even if she’s half Scottish and filipina. Lol. Like grow up no need to make any issue about that and be disrespectful by printing a newspaper headline where they erase the word philippines instead put the place where she grew up. How insecure is that, like why the need to claim and compare.

Well, filipinos are palaban, pangunahan nila tayo at d natin sila aatrasan.. It's just envy and jealousy that these other asian countries felt toward us, and it's not our problem let them suffer lol. And as the Philippines is known as Asia's Melting Pot of Races... anybody with part filipino blood on their viens have all the rights to be considered filipino and may represent the Philippines as they wish.

Di nman masama ang beauty contest. Its part of entertainment.

It's not really an obsession, it's a way of supporting their candidate and also it's kind of entertainment for them when relaxing. Most countries support their representatives. If people don't have time to support their candidates then they're busy surviving for their lives. Filipinos are always happy, it's just their attitude. Venezuela is not sending their MU representative as they are in great economic crisis.
