Hyperopia, also known as farsightedness, is a common refractive error where the eye's lens and cornea focus incoming light behind the retina, causing close objects to appear blurry while distant objects are clear. This occurs when the eye is shorter than normal, leading to the image of a distant object becoming focused behind the retina, making objects up close appear out of focus. The physics solution to Hyperopia is the use of converging or convex lenses, which bend the incoming light rays to focus directly on the retina, thereby correcting the refractive error and improving near vision
.
Myopia, or nearsightedness, is the opposite of Hyperopia, where the eye focuses light in front of the retina instead of on it. This typically occurs because the eye is longer than normal or the cornea is excessively curved, resulting in distant objects appearing blurry while close objects are seen clearly. The physics solution to Myopia involves the use of diverging or concave lenses, which spread out the incoming light rays to focus on the retina, correcting the refractive error and improving distant vision
.
Astigmatism is a condition in which an abnormal curvature of the cornea causes two focal points to fall in different locations, leading to blurry vision at all distances. The physics solution to Astigmatism is the use of cylindrical lenses, which have different curvatures in different directions, correcting the uneven focusing of light and improving vision
