I was wondering about the budget, and if they paid them the median wage of the time $36,000 for 52 episodes a year, it’d still cost $216,000 for just the power rangers. That’s over half a million dollars now. Not even counting recurring villains and the guys who play the villain of the week. I think I read they only got $250,000 per episode which is peanuts. If they didn’t “exploit” these nobody actors, the hundreds of millions of fans they’ve had for 30 years wouldn’t be there. If they were better actors they probably would’ve went on to more important roles, but they’re still some of the most famous people ever.
@mintbari

You also have to consider that this was LA, which has been and still is an extremely expensive place to live. In most of America, you can get by with the median wage, but it's terrible what practices Saban had at the time (and even now). They went union midway through In Space if I remember correctly, but then they lost it after moving to New Zealand.

Didn't Amy say that they were paid $600 per episode? Plus this was in the early 90s when I believe Austin, Thuy, and Walter wanted more pay and union protection. The toys were selling like hotcakes and they blew up in popularity quickly yet Saban couldn't increase their pay and give them on-set safety measures. All because the studio wanted to line their own pockets more with profits. If it wasn't for the cast's hard work Power Rangers wouldn't have lasted for 30 years. They deserved better and should've been paid more for what they gave us.

Some of them do now, but not back then. At the time, they were barely paid and recognized. Conventions are only a recent phenomena and were a little too late to keep Thuy Trang for waiting tables. Even so, not every actor charges as high a price. Of course, popular ones like JDF (RIP) had long lines to necessitate a steep price. But I doubt an actor on a smaller season is getting that same demand.
