Hey Rob. Yours and other channels have been an inspiration to me. I've gone from 3 to 20 pigs recently, webshop under development, processor and butcher lined up as well as cold storage and transport being looked at. You are right, fence these animals in and they depend on us - I like getting up in morning and doing chores. I probably won't see return on this venture for a while as its all been outlay up to now, but I can keep getting better and look for efficiencies later. I host campers and they love to watch the pigs, especially the kids who help feed and ask lots of questions. Keep Well!

That's great to hear Rob. Like you have done, be smart about it, be realistic, and pay attention to cashflow. IF the money don't work, the farm don't work!

You are 100% correct. We need to buy and support small family farms, buy local and support our communities so we don’t rely on big businesses. Years ago are grandparents and great grandparents did this and it worked.

Indeed. When I drive around one of the downfalls of this country I see, is the takeover of corporate businesses. It has forced folks to work holidays, sundays, everything is profit driven, everyone is working and buying to support a very few and little is put back into the local community. Yet, we all fall for the 'tax revenue' bait and switch and "it will be good for the local economy", etc., etc. We all get excited over jumbo size to 'save a few pennies' but it has killed the 'little man' and small town America.

right about animals depending on us and our responsibility for their care. I like knowing my pigs were treated well. I'm small and usually buy a few pigs for friends and family to enjoy. Don't think I can make it breeding pigs. cost of feed are high. In the fall craigslist pig prices drop like crazy, I have seen pigs for free. you could get stuck with a litter of pigs for winter feeding with no buyers till spring. Butchers are 6 months or more out and auctions sell for under a dollar a pound usually. spring prices are good but feeding a pig all year for 1 litter is unlikely to work.

Preach on, all you just said is the truth. So much to consider when it comes to raising animals!

Thats right. Sadly too many videos preaching the fairytale, with music, merch giveaways, wife not wearing any clothes and not disclosing there six figure job off the farm or 'homestead' or that the YT channel is the business and sole source of income. Thanks for watching and for your comment.
