That’s the phenomenal Tony Williams singing! He was their lead singer for most of the 50s. One of my all-time favorite voices! I fell so in love with this band the first time I heard them as a kid! I couldn’t stop listening and got addicted to 50s music in general. Besides “Only You,” which you already reacted to, their other biggest hits are “My Prayer” and “The Great Pretender.” But you can’t go wrong with any Platters song from between 1953-1960, when Tony Williams was singing lead. To me this is what the word “dreamy” sounds like!!

I love that, it's so beautiful!" ❤️😊 I raised her listening to amazing music, of all decades, and she still loves them all so much, now she's 22 years old, and playing them and loving them while she's driving in her own car. ❤

JBP I do like classic rock, I used to go to all the concerts and meet the bands in the 70’s and 80’. I listen to today’s Christian music and it is so good in all genres that I don’t need to listen to today’s music. Why are you so angry? Why can’t people comment without coming across like a bully. Sure , there is probably some decent musicians out there nowadays but the ones getting the publicity are just plain nasty. The way you commented on my comment, I think you need anger management.

Yes indeed. Part of the genius of the Platters was that they often covered songs (like this one) that were old even at the time...carefully written songs in an era when songs were cranked out like sausages in a factory...and so the Platters' songs endure!

Why bring in any comparisons at all? Things are always both good and bad depending on the context. When Rock n' Roll first came to be many said it was trash. Famous TV personalities said they will never have Elvis Presley on their shows because his moves and music were vulgar. So, it's all about perception really. Personally, I want artists to be able to freely express themselves, be it through hip-hop or country songs. I may have my personal likes and dislikes. But I will never turn my nose up at music which is not to my taste and compare between different genres of music from different eras. It's unnecessary and fruitless.

Once upon a time, being a vocalist was a high plateau for someone to reach, and the public sat and listened, and appreciated the incredible gift they were hearing, the endless rehearsals, the tweaking of a song, the WORK that goes into doing this. And we bought their records. This...this was that time. The Platters were those musicians, and the truth is there were more than a few like them. I am gonna assume that the reason we don't hear music like this anymore is because too few people know it even exists. You are helping that, my friend.
