The Platters are the gold standard for doo wop and the golden oldies. And that is saying something. What a genre. What a group. What an era. The Fabulous Fifties.

I saw them in 1980, in Holland, and when they did "Twilight Time", I shedded a tear, in front of the stage; SO beautiful! The lead-singer saw that, and he recoqnized me, TWO years later, at another gig in Holland.. LOVE them!

So much talent, what happened to today's music? this is the core of beautiful music, singing to a wonderful and lovely person; that's what's missing on today's music. Please bring this music back, the world needs it...

On this day in 1956 {December 1st} the Twentieth Century Fox movie, 'The Girl Can't Help It', opened in theaters across the U.S.A. The Platters' "You'll Never, Never Know" was featured in the film, at the time the song was at #28 on Billboard's Top 100 chart... Exactly one month earlier on November 1st, "You'll Never, Never Know" peaked at #11 {for 1 week} on Billboard's Most Played on Juke Boxes chart... And also on the day the movie opened, the Platters had two other records on the Top 100, "It Isn't Right" was at #60 and their former #1 record, "My Prayer", was at #76... Between 1955 and 1967 the Los Angeles-based quintet charted thirty-nine times on the Top 100, seven made the Top 10 with four reaching #1, "The Great Pretender" for 2 weeks in 1956, "My Prayer" for 5 weeks in 1956, "Twilight time" for 1 week in 1958, and "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" for 3 weeks in 1959... Sadly, all five original members of the group have passed away, the last being bassist Herb Reed on June 4th, 2012 at the age of 83... May they all R.I.P.

Yes thank you for all of that information. May they all RIP. The Platters remind me of the Temptations or in hindsight the other way around. This kind of music lives on telling us all a long story of American culture. Peace be with.
