Sure, the Wolfgang Petersen film was nowhere near as good as this one, but have you seen the TV special from 2005 where the ship gets capsized by a terrorist's bomb?

Chairs aboard ship were typically swivel mounted to the deck so they could be rotated and allow ease of being seated or getting up. The most common type was a simple swivel bold in the center of a cross frame between the legs. Other times there was a swivel on one leg. Take a look at photographs of dining rooms of ship and look closely, you will see them.

At 0:50 the chairs should also have fallen. They couldn't have been bolted to the floor on that positions. Totally insane...

This is actually an accurate depiction of what used to be done on ships during turbulent weather (which is what the S.S. Poseidon had been encountering.) They would tether chairs to the floor in order to avoid them sliding around and causing injury or damage.

+Movie.Jon OK, but how did they tether them? And far away from any table? I've sailed over the Biscaya Bay in full storm on a cruise ship, and can't remember I saw any tethered chairs.

YDDES the ship they used (The RMS Queen Mary) is an old ship and old ships had their tables and chairs bolted to the floor

+iiMaginationKingii Well, hardly in that position relative to the tables. And, they didn't flip Queen Mary upside down. These scenes were filmed in a studio.

As has been said before, they weren't BOLTED down, they were TETHERED. (A piece of cord run through one leg, close to the floor.) So they were still mobile to a point, but remained secure in rough seas from sliding, tipping or being dumped upside down. Naturally, many of them would still have been knocked loose by debris in a capsizement. It's an accuracy detail, not a mistake. Do you think that an Oscar-winning set decorator/art director (Raphael Bretton) was going to just attach chairs to the ceiling for no reason because it looked fun?
