Can you imagine having arthritis or something like that and just thinking "stupid elves, stop shooting me"? 😅
@roguewolf7053
3 жыл бұрын
As long as u were older when u developed arthritis it was just seen as your joint being worn down from age. However say u had juvenile onset arthritis like me which began at age 11 following a severe case of mono triggering an autoimmune disorder...THEN elves might be suspected or a magic user casting a curse. Bc they believed the majority of “elven caused” illnesses was a result of being shot by a magic arrow or stabbed by a magic spear it would’ve been illnesses which somewhat mimic the type of pain being harmed by similar non magic arrows/Spears would cause. So think pancretitis, inflammation of the bowels, gallstones, migraines, sciatica/other nerve pain, kidney stones, ovarian cyst, etc...or even food poisoning or severe stomach virus. I can personally attest that all of those can cause very sharp stabbing type pain like you would imagine being caused by being stabbed or shot with an arrow. I’ve experienced or still chronically experience all of the things I mentioned due to some of the chronic illnesses I suffer from...except for the food poisoning & stomach viruses of course which came from the expected causes. Had I been born in the Middle Ages I likely would’ve never made it much past 2wks of age when I developed severe pneumonia. Which sadly parents on average typically lost 50% or more of their children before adulthood...which at those times was considered between 14-17. With the most perishing before age 7.😕😞 I don’t blame them for inventing things to blame for the massive amount of loss & illnesses they must have faced in their comparatively very short lives. Back then 50 was consider quite old & 70-80 absolutely ancient! Which it’s actually to their benefit they didn’t often live to be 70+ as being old in those days would’ve been just constant daily suffering! Especially considering the abuse of daily manual labor starting from a young as 5 & typically a horrible diet to boot!😕

@@roguewolf7053 I often think about how many times I would've died as a kid and how that would've felt like as I died according to what happened. For one example, when I got a cat bite through my hand, I got acute septcemia. I nearly died as within the 20 minutes or around there it took to drive to the hospital, the infection had already gotten up my forearm. Runners and black veins, the whole bit. By the time the medication was given and started working, the blackness had reached the peak of my shoulder. I was 6-7 when this happened. I also suffer from several mental illnesses, so I also wonder about those and how they'd be treated in older times.... Life is so difficult now for those that aren't typical, so I can even imagine what it'd be like back then.

OHMYGOD How did he not throw up from seeing and smelling those maggots?
@LiliAquinas
3 жыл бұрын
The maggots aren't the stinky part. The dead stuff they feed on stinks. Maggots and leeches are used in modern wound care treatments, and leeches are used to increase circulation, especially following microsurgery, and in cases where the patient may not have very good circulation prior to surgery. They're specifically bred in sterile environments, so they don't introduce any damaging bacteria or viruses, and they're very good at what they do. Leeches secrete an anticoagulant while feeding, to prevent clotting (which would make it difficult for the hungry little leech to get at the blood!), and this anticoagulant causes increased blood circulation in the area. Maggots only feed on dead tissues, so they can debride (clean out the dead tissues) wounds without causing any damage to healthy tissues. Modern medicine has not developed any sort of treatment that mimics what these little critters can do, which is pretty amazing to me.

@@hectatusbreakfastus6106 - Oh no that's not what I meant sorry, I am sadly all too aware that people like that exist (Operation Cathedral is one such case that springs to mind, but sadly such atrocities occur throughout the world right throughout history). I was referring to the theories that Bathory (and Gilles de Rais) were not the ones who actually committed the crimes that they were accused of. The politics surrounding the situation in both of their cases has lead some to believe that higher up people committed the crimes, and made sure that someone else took the fall for the crimes. I assumed everyone knew of the alternate theories so was just seeking your opinion as I find it interesting to hear all viewpoints, I apologise if it came across the wrong way. I do personally believe Bathory is guilty based on other aspects of the story surrounding her case, but I believe there is a high chance Gilles de Rais was actually a victim of a smear campaign. It's sometimes very easy to automatically believe the horrors nobels in the past were accused of based on how humans really can behave, but that very tendency to jump to the automatic conclusion of guilt can sometimes cause us to not look further to maybe ascertain if there is a different story underneath the public accusations. :)

I also had a neighbour with Restless Leg Syndrome (then untreatable) get alternative medicine treatment from a psychic for every few weeks. @@professional.daydreamer You can't change your complaint halfway through just because someone caught you with an illogical bit that you portrayed. While I agree wholeheartedly in animal rights, it's stupid to think they had animals specially killed specifically for the episodes they did. In addition, what you dub "unnecessary" in reasoning regarding butchering the animals others might label as necessary toward the end of feeding people, as one example. Nearly your entire "argument" is highly subjective and reminiscent of poorly executed propaganda. This is coming from someone who values vegans and vegetarians, with many as friends, and who has volunteered at many shelters for animal welfare, among other offerings toward helping creatures of all kinds.
