The talk emphasizes on the importance of critical literacy, especially among the younger generation and how that promotes diversity and inclusivity, and why that is important. This talk will help us understand the ways in which we can remedy injustices through our beliefs and actions and disrupt colonized pedagogies. Pranoo is the proud immigrant daughter of Konkani Indian parents, a career changer from medicine to education, a mother of two, a wife, and an educator committed to liberating educational experiences. Over the past 12 years, she’s taught, led, and founded a number of early childhood/elementary programs on the East and West Coast- committed to identity-driven, empowering learning experiences. With the move to FL, Pranoo was seeking community and spaces to feel safe. Thus she opened Rohi’s Readery, a social justice-driven children’s bookstore and learning center committed to unapologetic truth. Providing “windows and mirrors” through free educational programming. In 1.5 years, the Readery has offered over 150 free events on campus and 20+ around the community, brought nearly 3,000 people together, established 40+ partnerships, fulfilled book donations, and provided DEIA consulting services. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
