The fact the first guy had a Stiletto hammer. You don't need a 300 dollar hammer to sink nails. But the majority of guys aren't dropping that much for a tool they don't know how to use. I never do edits but this seems necessary. His hammer may in fact be a Mark Martinez, with that said, he's the same man that founded Stilleto.

@@davidsonmaquinna7704 I am a carpenter and yeah. Stiletto hammers big selling point is they have a titanium handle and head. Titanium is lighter than tool steel but something about the composition of the metal makes it feel like you're wacking with a lot more force (a 16oz hammer could feel like it hits as hard as a 22oz hammer without all the wear it causes on your joints). One issue is titanium is strong and light but really it wears faster than tool steel. Tool steel is engineered to really take a beating. Because of this, I think the original founder of Stiletto, Martin Marinez, started another company with all titanium handle hammers, shock absorption grips, and a replaceable tool steel hammer head face (Stiletto may also offer that as well). Best of all worlds.

I worked at a job where we made doors. I started as a press operator or what they also called a stack pounder. The stacks were about 40 doors high and when I got them I had to pound all the corners with a hammer. The purpose was to close any gaps between the stiles and rails before putting them in a press cause if the stiles and rails weren’t touching each other but away from each other and I put them in the press like that the doors would come out of the press with gaps. Anyways that’s four corners per door for 40 doors per stack I had to hammer tight and I got a stack of doors every 15 minutes. I got so good and accurate with a hammer I could kill flies with the hammer. The first time it happened I thought it was just lucky shot but then I did it again and again. I remember when I trained my replacement I told him about killing flies and he laughed at me. A couple of months later I was driving the forklift and he came running towards me holding something, it was a fly 😂 he was so amazed he wanted to show me he could kill flies too and he said I never believed you but it’s tru I can kill flies too😂😂 also I should mention that I was almost as good with a hammer with my left hand too because it was soo many doors your right arm started hurting so you’d have to switch the hammer to your left hand. After a few months of that you can hammer really good with your left hand too

In the specific case of having a contest to see who can drive the nail in the least number of swings, I think it does matter. The expensive framing hammer is a lot heavier, meaning he can use a shorter more accurate swing and get the same amount of force. If you hand me a hammer to drive nails I'm just going to use extra swings and do it right. If you want me to do it hundreds of times in a day it's time to break out the nail gun where possible. If you're really planning on not using nail guns for framing for some reason, I would definitely invest in the expensive hammer and save some wear on my arm.

@@doggin6 yup same here. I’ve bought one DeWalt hammer even though I’ve replaced it twice. My local Home Depot has a lifetime warranty, so every time it breaks I just go pick up a new one.
