It seems clear to me that she was playing strategy. She obviously knew the maximum bid possible and gave it which tells me that she wanted to win something other than an ugly popcorn machine. Furthermore, she may have known the game that was set up beforehand and wanted to wait for a game where she could play for a car. She certainly had plenty more opportunities in contestants row to come up on stage, so she's probably not as stupid as you people make her out to be.
@ReuWil

Yes. You can see a list of the games to be played if you are near the front of the audience. If you saw the next game was Double Prices or Pick A Number, but upcoming was a cash game like Plinko, It's In The Bag, or Grand Game... you may want to wait if its early enough in the show.

The value of the item(s) up for bids on contestants’ row is a pittance compared to the value of the item(s) one could wins once one gets on stage. You want to maximize your chance of getting onstage by trying your hardest to win in EVERY round. Intentionally “tanking” a round would be the absolute HEIGHT of stupidity. (Plus if you get on stage, you are in the showcase showdown automatically, and if you get into the showcase, you basically have a 50/50 chance of winning a HUGE prize package.)

If you are the second-to-last person bidding, you are at a disadvantage ONLY to the last person to bid. But you are at an advantage over the first two bidders. The later you bid, the greater your chance of getting up on stage, because every bidder has an advantage over those (if any) who bid before him/her.

@@trwent No math is involved. It's a quirk of language either that the word OR symbol should be used, not both. Do you know in which circumstances each one is correct? I'll wait for you to respond before I say. I'm curious what your answer will be. Strange to get so upset at a random KZitem commenter for making such a small error, especially in such an informal setting as this. You should learn not to get worked up over trivial matters. You're only causing yourself undue grief.
@trwent

@ErisEntropy Either way is fine: they mean the same thing. Writing $1 dollar IS a math error because it means the same as 1 dollar dollar or 1 dollar^2; in other words, a square dollar, which is a different unit from a dollar. I am a mathematician by training, and I am bothered by basic math ignorance in the general population. Another one I see constantly is failure to grasp numbers; people use 99%, 99.9%, or 99.99% all the time when what they really mean is something in the neighborhood of 80 to 95 percent. 99.99% means 9999 out of every 10,000; you cannot get 9999 out of 10,000 people to agree that the sky is blue or water is wet!!

@@trwent Not everyone always speaks with complete seriousness or accuracy. That depends on what they're speaking about, and most of the time people say what they think in an exaggerated way, not exactly what they mean or what they think is true. I find it funny, but you're right. People are strange. Some are annoying, some are liars, and some are funny. You really should learn not to care too much for idiots. Don't argue with them. Some people will never learn what you want to teach them. Above all, don't forget that you are no less fallible than those you look down on. Unless I'm speaking with an omniscient being, there are things you are ignorant to as well, as has been demonstrated here. I'm sorry if ignorance bothers you, but it can't be stopped for a multitude of reasons. First and foremost is because so many people get so steeped in their way of living that they never even think to question their abilities, methods or ideals. I do wish this were different in many cases. I wish more people could face matters they know little of with greater acumen, but ignorance of anything is ignorance of ignorance itself. As for $1 vs. 1 Dollar vs. $1 Dollar mathematically they are the same. You're contriving a value and attributing it to the erroneous redundant 'Dollar' word or symbol. A Dollar is a unit, not a value. it's like saying 1 km km. You don't have 1 square kilometer, you have a spelling mistake, and square Dollars have no reason to exist. Dollars as a unit of currency only have monetary value, no length or width. And the difference linguistically is that $1 is informal, and used in a financial context. 1 Dollar would also be informal, but more uncommon. You'd be unlikely to see that in a financial document. One Dollar is formal. I made a small mistake, and if you care so much then you can see I'm owning up to it, but that mistake was entirely due to my lack of caring for formality in a KZitem comment.

@@ErisEntropy The fact that a square dollar does not have any intuitive meaning, like a square foot does, does NOT mean that it is not mathematically wrong to write it. If one does calculations where the units matter, this is a potential source of error.
