@AjharHussain-tr2ir so in real life it's extremely hard to find true primary magenta and blue which are super important for color mixing because you literally cannot mix these colors from other colors and blue is especially rare. it's a super rare pigment in general but a primary blue is truly spectacular.

For anyone wondering blue pigment in anything is the hardest to make naturally. Especially in paint. This is why it is so rare to see in nature and most of the blue things you see in nature aren’t actually blue. Ex) blue moths get their color from hairs on their body refracting light, it doesn’t have blue moth dust. Same with flowers you see

I find this comment facinateing. I was going to argue that purple color was the hardest to make, then I read your 'hardest to find in nature' bit, and I concede that I can think of more purple things than blue things, and I understand that often the color blue is just a refraction of light (water, the sky, blue eyes) I wanna ask since you might know: What about feathers? Other bugs? (like dragonflies) Does blue exist in nature at all aside from the refraction of light?
@shaneholman5959

@@GypsyQueen318 it’s the same with moths. Also you’re right about purple. Purple is technically the hardest color to make since you need both red and blue so you were correct. Also feathers work the same way. If you look at crows from afar they look very dark. But if you look at them up close they seem almost a little blue, their feathers also refract light in the same way but not as much. Same with bugs too, bugs that are blue often have tiny microscopic hairs that refract light

Purple is really a lie! The point is you always get desaturated colors when you mix any paints. We don't go around the perimeter of the color wheel, when we mix something. Instead we are connecting the dots of color and the final result is somewhere in between and closer to the gray center of the circle than initial colors. The mixed colors in the video are also slightly desaturated, still that's not as noticeable as with less clean colors and result is really fantastic When I was a child, I attended an art club and tried working only with three colors and white. My works looked always muddy. 10 years later I discovered that you need at least 6 colors to maintain a decent saturation. Professional printers have 8, 10, 12 pigments, they don't use CMYK. And I finally understood why paints and pencils have such a huge assortment

Ultramarine will make better purples than this. Primary blue is just the best IF you only get 3 colors. If you choose from among 6, or 9 colors closer to what you want, you'll get even better. So ultramarine is the purplest blue, and something like pyrol rubine or quinacradone pinks are some of the purplest reds = ansolutely wild vibrant acid purples. Make sure to get SINGLE pigment paints not already blended ones. Cadmium red is a no go, that's a orange red you need a purpley red to mix purples, that's your issue

@@gavinjenkins899 I know. I didn’t elaborate in my original comment but the cadmium red for mixing purple was the only option in my high school art class. The supply was supposed to have alizarin also, but it seemed to always be out. My choices for blue were ultramarine and cerulean lol. Wayyy back when I was originally learning to use oils. There’s also the matter of mixing an opaque paint with a translucent paint that has some effect on the outcome. But I don’t work with oils at the moment due to safe disposal needs. Great video but how exactly is this toxic? Judging by the PPE you're wearing it apears to be slightly better than Arsenic based pigment and paint, but since its been banned for over 50 years and that nobody has made it its probably more toxic than Lead paint. I know I could look this up but I know that someone very smart could give a better answer than google as there are some really intelligent people who watch these videos. Please don't kill yourself and keep up this awsome content

probably just contact dermatitis so the same level of toxicity as poison ivy

It mentions this in the past video, but it has to do with Barium Manganate, which is toxic mainly through ingestion and eye/skin contact- which is why there’s no need to wear a gas mask as long as I’m just in a well-ventilated area 👍🏻

Neither barium mangante nor barium sulfate are toxic. I guess it has something to do with the reactants to produce it. Kaliumpermangant is pretty oxidative (barium mangante too) and barium nitrate is toxic (not bad, but you should not eat it). I dont know if they had problems with contamination or if it was just environmental concerns.

@@gregorsamsa9695 from what I have read, barium manganate is toxic according to OSHA, but not on a super extreme level. My understanding is that you are correct, and it was the byproducts that it created that were worse than the paint itself. 👍🏻

This reminds me of an Adam Savage video I watched about an ID prop for the film Blade Runner. Turns out the place who made the ID cards for the characters in the films used this orange gel material used in printing that hadn't been made since the 50s or earlier, they had a whole roll and you could even see where they'd cut out the pieces of film to use for the Blade Runner movie back in the early 80s. As far as it's known it's the only roll of the film left to exist, just sitting there in the same place that made the proper over 40 years ago. Crazy all the stuff that's lost to time...

No joke seeing this blue is like amazing and hearing its story because that blue is the most beautiful blue I've ever seen. I've gone through different favorite colors but that color of blue is the one that I see in my dreams Blue is my favorite color.

One of my favorite colors is paris green. But its also toxic because it contains arsenic. They used it during the victorian, maybe even edwardian era.

Manganese blue is not discontinued, at least not in watercolor form. It's actually a rather bad alternative to a phthalo blue that is way closer to true cyan then manganese blue, its tinting strength is lower and it's more opaque.

She means in paint. It’s really tricky to get red, blue, or yellow paints that mix like true primary colors. Purple is especially challenging to mix.

I'm sure one could reproduce this exact colour with safer products. It would take a chemist who is knowledgeable with this type of medium to figure it out.

No, you can't. Just not how pigments work. Any sort of blend is inferior for mixing than a single pigment m, it will be muddier and grayer (unless the target is already muddy, gray, and washed out, but this isn't)

that is honestly so good! I'm a junior tattoo artist and i bought a set of "simple" colors to start out with practicing color work but the blue is SO DARK, the red and yellow look fine, the orange and green in the set are also fine, but the blue is just way too dark

Whats crazier to me is that you go through SO MANY ways to make sure your ppe is safe and artists 200 years ago, were just breathing it in fresh. Absolute insanity to think that even as close as 50 years ago people STILL didnt use ppe for these paints

The toxic element from the paint comes from Barium Manganate the compound used to create it. Toxic if touched, inhaled, basically handled at all. Long term handling leads to poisoning that attacks the central nervous system

Reminds me of the time as a kid I made something on the computer with a blue where the slider for blue was all the way on and red and green were off. When I went to print it I got a message that the image on the paper wouldn't be the same as on screen. Basically telling me that the printer can't make the blue I had chosen.

There is a tiny blue flower that grows in the Pacific Northwest off of a vine, a lithadora, that kind of looks like a raggedy seedum… oh, it’s the only time I seen that blue color that you’re describing as a true primary blue in nature. And the flower is so bright it almost glows. I would love to buy canvas swatches of the paint colors maybe one on the left with the name and producer and years in typewriter font under it and just lacquer the swatch in 1/2 inch over the edge to keep it from offgasing. Or a swatch mixed with white in a gradient down the left of a canvas. Or 4-5 swatches down the left all labeled.
