The entire "personal is political" reminds me a lot of how my parents used to talk about living under a communist regime. Apart from the obvious propaganda in public spaces (schools, squares and so on), there was a hidden incentive where your adherence to the party had to be the central point of each private conversation or interaction. People even began the conversations with "party-approved" greetings, had memorabilia inside their homes that reminded them of the glory of the regime, and almost all entertainment that one could consume in his or her private time was centered around the celebration of the regime. Any past-time activity that was against the regime was not directly banned by frowned upon. People could lose membership in the party (which was basically a public execution) by traveling outside too much, going to church, or even buying certain brands. My grandpa had to hide the fact that he was a catholic and a smoker of a certain brand of German cigarettes in order to keep his job and not run into any problem. Any joke, any mention of you being against some policy made by the party was taken out of context and reported to the authorities by average people to advance their status, even if these mentions were made in privacy or during a regular chit-chat. Not talking about politics or not having a strong political opinion was considered to be a threat even if you were a model citizen. People often say stuff like that won't ever happen, or that it can't be done. Remember it was possible even before the Internet, hell even before a colored TV was a thing. So with the help of all the technology surrounding us, someone with enough power and leverage is capable of executing this... and most likely will in the future.

I can't say I agree, fundamentally speaking, with the assertion that 'everything is political'. That's fucking absurd, to be frank. The hot, steaming shit I'm taking currently isn't political, and if you believe it is, you are fucking delusionally insane. A better way to phrase it, I think, is that most things (perhaps all, although I sincerely doubt it) in humanity's collective sphere has ELEMENTS of politics involved somewhere along the way, but that doesn't make the thing itself inherently political. To illustrate what I mean, take coffee, as Dev does, for an example. Coffee is a beverage. That is, fundamentally, all it is. However, there ARE undoubtedly vast political elements and forces involved in the process of making coffee...coffee, in your hands. BUT, that does not make the coffee itself political. It sometimes makes the process of making it and getting it to you political, but thats about it. Or, in other words; politics doesn't magically transfer to the second degree. If the line for coffee is 'political process of making/manufacturing/refining/shipping/whatever coffee"---->"pot of coffee in your kitchen", I utterly fail to see why the politics are supposed to jump wholesale to the second degree. And if it DOES, then as I said, my shit is, therefore, political. For fucks sake, this is virtually the exact same line of logic progressives use to justify anything they don't like is fass-cisst. 'F-wordism has self help elements. Therefore, self help books are f-word'. 'F-wordism has nationalism. Therefore, nationalism is f-word'. "F-wordists drink water. Therefore, water is f-word'.

This... makes a lot of things make sense. I have a lot of friends that I made in college whose politics I cannot stand, but they're great friends who I love hanging out with (when I can). I have no problem with being polite, friendly, and kind to people who I don't know or disagree with. That is, until they start disrespecting me. After that I choose to stop talking with them. It never occurred to me that some people might have no conception of private vs. public. Some people are immediately hostile towards me if they've heard about me from others without ever speaking with me, and I'm always confused about why that is. I've never spoken with you before, why do you hate me so much? But with this context of everything being political and nothing being private, encounters like that make so much sense. Thanks, Dev. I really needed someone to explain this to my pee wee smol brain :)

Shaun's comment always reminds of how people seem to disregard context. The reason isn't "context doesn't matter" which is the argument usually made, the real reason is that there is only one context: the political, as explored in this video. They probably believe that there is no difference in the way you act when you put on a show for an audience and a personal/private conversation between two people. Even then, those can have different contexts. Personally, the way I converse with my parents is not the same as when I converse with my siblings. Even then I speak differently when I'm talking to my father, mother, and each of my siblings. I'm even talking differently now in the KZitem comment section. They think that all those interactions should be consistent and offer no deviation between each other. There's a saying that we all put on different masks depending on the person/people we interact with, because we all act a certain way to certain people depending on the context of the relationship with that person. They would probably disagree with this saying, believing people behave the same all the time unless they're acting, but they'd most likely phrase it as "no one should wear a mask, they should act like themselves no matter who they're talking to" making it sound like the person is oppressed by doing this, when really people are trying to be respectful to the person they are talking to. This is also disregarding the situation the conversation happens in which also factors in the way we act. They completely disregard the nuances of human interaction as a way to paint their target in a certain light.

Maybe I'm wrong but I honestly don't think most of the far left actually can't tell that some things should be private or that there's some level of nuance in everything or anything like that I just think their style of politics is mostly or always performative and that style of politics attracts egotistical people who want to look like they're the "good guys" and are the most bleeding hearted and altruistic individuals It's now gotten to the point where they only care how acceptable they look to their collective. So if one of them has personal beliefs that oppose their general narrative, that person is ostracized as part of the out group of degenerates "Which reasonable person would not side with leftism", one leftist commentator replied to me under a leftists video I watched Their comment really surprised me, and could tell you a lot about that person and maybe also for many of them to

There is childrens book called 'Momo' by Michael Ende. It's a story about time thieves. There are grey, joyless men going around, and talk people into contracts to 'save their time' so they can use it later. The people who sign those contracts shave off the time at the 'nonimportant' things in life, like bringing flowers to the elderly neighbour, sitting down to eat properly and enjoy time with friends. The time goes into a time vault on a 'bank', but the grey men want the time for themselves of course, because they have none of their own. That story fits perfectly into what you're describing. Also, even though it's a childrens book, I think it's a philosophical masterpiece. So if anyone is interested, give it a read or a listen 😊

1:05 - the representation of the 'The left' is a general statement. the representation of 'The right' is 2 (relatively) specific statements. this 'shadow positioning' is called 'reification' in which an ambiguous thing is regarded as a concrete thing. on top of that it also a loaded label, in that the very definition of 'improve society' is the result both sides are trying to do (and thus the conclusion of both of their actions). obviously there is a straw man fallacy, though one could flex the definition of left and right of those that want that which is stated (a different fallacy) and that would mean that both people are speaking different and incompatible dialects (which means argument is pointless as they lack a common understanding). basically anyone who wants to argue in good faith will take a hard stance on something, if they do not they will not be someone who wants to argue in good faith. this means that they are not worth arguing against, as the desired outcome for them is to make the other side a joke. in essence they are cracking jokes at the others expense, and those that go along with it are supporting that bad behavior. if you think back in grade school when this happened and most of the kids supported such joking there was no possible solution other than to excise yourself as much as possible from such people and to ignore them when you have to be around them. they eventually move on to someone else to make fun of, as that is their thing, but should you return they will then make fun of you again. eventually the kids grow out of it and thus a total separation of the groups can be avoided, but in this case that will not happen. if the school had any sort of group projects in which you were forced to be the odd man out in their group then you also know what happens when such people have power over their victims. in that case it is temporary and one can simply suffer through it as much as possible, and typically there is a teacher or parent to keep things from going too far (such as stripping the victim and leaving them in a public park at night or some other really bad thing), but again this isn't the case in this situation. the best case situation is to not interact with them so they don't even realize you even exist.

If they argue you're not an Autist, say one gave you the 'tism card.

Things like "the personal is political" boild down to 'everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state'.

Well I said this before he referenced it in the video.

There is a great idea somewhat lost in there. To reverse the phrase "the personal is political". If you are personally toxic, that means that the politics that you espouse is rotten.

Part of this video made me think, Unique Personality is gone. It's now just preselected check boxes of "gender identities" with predetermined personality traits.

I listen to Dev’a takes on politics every now and then, because I find them rather interesting. It’s well timed that I’ve come across this video in particular now: I’ve been a part of a discord server for a conlang with a small core group for about 3 years (that’s three pride months if you measure by the leftist calendar). Of that group, I am a Christian, one is a Mormon, and four are some flavour of LGBT. We’ve gotten along really well, since I never made a big thing of any of their positions. Over the years though, they’ve started to increase their use of LGBT materials in the chat, making the server feel ever more “gay”. Things came to a peak recently, when one created a modified server icon with the pride and trans flag colour, and suggested making it the official icon for pride month. I voiced my opinion that I would rather it not be, as I didn’t want the server to advocate for something I am morally opposed to. Then the person who created the pride icon version changed it without the owner (the Mormon)’s permission, or consulting the rest of the group. (I imagine it was in response to my request that we didn’t, as a sort of “f- you”). In the end, 3 of the 4 LGBT members of the core group left, leaving behind their reasons, and 2 or 3 non-core members also left. This is despite me thinking I had a good relationship with all of these people. In the end, it all came down to; me disagreeing with them is an attack on their very being, making it hateful, and in-tolerable. The server being “non-partisan” (rather than “non-political”) seems to be the root of all this. If it were non political, they would never have pushed their leftism, and I would have never had reason to push back. However, being neither right nor left created space for the left, and not the right it seems.

Same thing happened to me with someone I disagreed on trans issues with. Felt completely betrayed by someone I thought was a reasonable man and he seemed like it in the almost 2 years I was in his server before he banned me for my opinion he labeled as hate. Even beyond politics people like this are just unbelievable.

@@AxisChurchDevotee I feel for you man, - It's a shock to learn that people you thought were your friends suddenly betray you over something you don't view as a big thing. Wishing you the best, and God bless you and keep you.
