I find the rampant acceptance of gambling in the US in sports like NBA, NFL etc absolutely insane.

It really is crazy, and it's really become super popular only within the last 5-10 years. Before that gambling was looked at as unhealthy almost like smoking cigarettes.

Gambling is really bad without a question, but with Valve stepping down this season, the gambling companies are pretty much the only thing keeping the competitive scene alive...that and the oil money. Solutions are hard to find if Valve doesn't wanna get involved again.

You're definitely right, and that's the problem. It's sad to see.

match fixing is bad for everyone, turns professional matches into a rigged lottery, i'm one of the, as you described, 1% of ppl beating the bookmakers and making a living out of it for the past 3+ years, I bet on LoL but the concerns remains the same, if players don't earn enough, there's too much incentive to match fix and in returns it may make bookmakers completely cut off some markets or even the entire game itself from their portfolio which will make me move to another game and adapt or go broke lol. so it really does sucks for everyone, from spectators, bettors, pro players, non pro players, the game, the company that own the IP, bookmakers and so on. I was looking to learn dota to bet but it seems that the situation is way worse than it is in league, which sucks big time

Its weird how Valve isnt straight up banning anyone with such allegations. A temporary ban at least since its not proven. All in all, hope Valve steps up to mitigate this cuz if a top player does it, you wonder who else at the top that are still not caught yet. From the Taiga situation, I dont care that he gambled, but why did he did it in the game that he's a competitor in. Baffles me alot...

gambling business is insanely predatory towards a person's hope of winning and is very difficult to regulate. but match fixing is absolute degen behaviour. feeding kills intentionally is a disgrace and there should be no forgiveness whatsoever. Taiga was one of my favourite pos 4 players and am disgusted. I hate match fixers and the fact that the dude has the audacity to go stream dota now on twitch is just shameless. get help and get through the bad phase learn from mistakes and be better but should never be allowed in dota pro scene ever again. also now that u mention others maybe doing it but in a smarter way, recent dyrachyo games are sus too no allegations but its just sus that a player of that insane caliber makes such stupid 2kmmr plays and feeds

Yeah for sure, there's no room for gambling and he should definitely be banned. Like I said, he is responsible for his actions, but at the same time I to empathize with people who get caught up in this sort of thing. Especially since it is much more prevalent and promoted these days while being almost exclusively a bad thing.
