What are some portrayals of Legacy Characters you can think of recently? Did they do good or did they do bad and completely miss the mark of what you loved, if so why?

I think my favorite portrayal of a legacy character is in The Mask of Zorro

I don't know if it's my place to say, but since this channel is in its early days and I can see it becoming much larger due to the sheer quality of content, I would like to give a piece of criticism I've found with this video specifically. Usually, I'll throw a video essay like this on and listen while I wash dishes, etc. With this video, I really, really struggled to keep up with how fast-paced your delivery was. I understand that's the style - or maybe it's nerves/anxiety - but it was very difficult for me, personally. Other than that, I appreciate your content, thank you for the uploads.

I think the same thing, him talking to fast is what is interesting and I like him to just get to the point but it can be a little hard to hear him speak so fast with so many words at once

Recently I’ve been trying to make an effort to go at a slower pace both in my delivery and in my editing, for me that style has always been out of wanting to maintain viewer retention and give me the person making it a lot more fun with the editing process. I watch content in the same way and the more stuff i make, the more im gonna branch out of my comfort zone and be a lot more slow and steady, instead of TikTok ADD :)

I do agree with them moving on and changing, But I do thing the new writers and showrunners till need to respect and keep the characters acting like they would in such scenarios, and not act complelety differently and out of character.

Yeah it’s vital for having them being brought back working. If you’re gonna disregard everything they were so fundamentally what’s even the point of it being the same character?

Exactly, characters need to grow and change as the world around them does. But that does not mean they suddenly drop their old believes and way of living. They just try to react to a changing world around them.@@Typoh_YT

I definitely understand ehat this guy is trying to say. It's okay if our childhood heroes are different when they're brought back. As living people, they're going to change, grow and be a completely different person. And I like his outlook on this. However, the studios don't view thi ga the way this guy does and with the way the industry is now, they probably never will. When they see these legacy characters they don't see potential to explore the next chapter in their story, they see dollar signs and what will make them more money. They're opportunistic people who will use what we recognize as a way to draw us in. That's why as a creator myself, I think It's best to create new characters that are based on the foundations of what made them special, their character. Not nostalgia. When making my own stories, I don't have the luxury of channeling your nostalgia for something you’ve seen before. I have to earn your respect, earn your empathy. I have to get you to care about my characters the old fashion way through hard work and passion. That's what most people today have forgotten, they think something familiar is what makes a good video game, or a good story, or good movie. They don't understand that there once was a world where there was no nostalgia. Spider-Man, Batman, Star Wars were all strangers to the big screen to the modern audience. They had to earn their place as icons. They weren't always super memorable. But people now act like Thats the norm. Like it's always been the norm. Well unfortunately, this ploy of exploiting people's nostalgia won't last forever I can twll you that. Because it's from a past Era, once everything from that Era has been exhausted, they'll be nothing left to regurgitate. Then maybe people will return to the roots of creating new icons the ild fashioned way. The way it was always intended. That's true art. You don't photo copy the Mona Lisa and then start selling it in different colors to get people to admire it. You create a new art piece, that will bring in new people new audiences. And you know what? They'll be happy isn't not another Mona Lisa, because they’ve already seen 50 thousand of them in various different colors and are just happy to finally be looking at something different for a change.

It's a late comment, but I definitely agree in general and on the take about Last Jedi in particular. It's not that it was some sort of deliberate self-arson, it's that the sort of thing Ruin Johnson did is what's the zeitgeist in the "Western" "creative" milieu now. And, with his attempt, he failed roundly because he paid too little mind to honouring what was there before, treated it as unimportant. As another comment notes, deconstructions need to be done from a place of respect for what already came before, even if the deconstruction sorta tears it down, else it doesn't feel like a deconstruction and just comes across as not understanding the characters or story. And then, of course, there are actual hacks who don't do any of this on purpose...

Spiderman especially in the comics suffers from this more than just about any character ever. It's genuinely infuriating how little he's allowed to grow and change as a character.
