The founder, the architect, and visitors of the Skirball Cultural Center share thoughts on the mission and the making of this vibrant institution in the hills of Los Angeles.
Uri D. Herscher, Skirball Founding President and CEO, speaks of his vision for a place of welcome inspired by ancestral Jewish values and American democratic ideals. Moshe Safdie reflects upon how he gave form to the Skirball mission in collaboration with Dr. Herscher and the Skirball's namesake, philanthropist Jack H. Skirball.
Highlights include a rare shot of the onetime garbage dump where the Skirball now stands, footage of world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie sketching the campus, and a lively glimpse at the Skirball's diverse educational and cultural programs.
"The Promise" was created for the Skirball's 2013 Founders Gala, which took place on October 19, 2013. The gathering celebrated thirty years since groundbreaking and the completion of the Skirball's fifteen-acre campus, designed by Safdie.
