DESCRIPTION:
In 1968, a hodgepodge of hippies, conscientious objectors, communists, students, and Black Panthers showed up in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention to protest conscription for the Vietnam War.
They were previously denied the right to protest by the city of Chicago, but they decided to show up anyway. As it turned out, the government didn’t like that too much and treated the protesters like an invading army, which sparked a violent riot.
On this Out of Frame Short, we dive into “The Trial of the Chicago 7” which depicts eight leaders involved who were charged with inciting a riot.
