Lundgren's hollow eyed, sleep deprived looking take on the character has always been my favourite. He's forfeited much of his humanity for his cause and now is driven mainly by sheer force of will.

I haven’t seen that version but this movie made Dolph my favorite actor for like eight years straight. I think I was the only one cheering for Drago. He was a peak scientific accomplishments. I like science. Sue me.

I agree. Marvel reshaped The Punisher character and Bernthal was great for that version, but The Punisher that was created outta 1980’s NYC was captured perfectly in this by Lundgren.

This was an example of excellent casting. Lungren was perfect in his wooden acting that he does and lou brought some real acting chops to the table. They filled there rolls perfectly.

one thing this movie did better than any of the others was to portray Frank as a really disturbed sociopath, every other movie always tried to inject some heroic bullshit, or justify his actions to a degree. i hope the new series will be more like this version

Lundgren's Castle wasn't a sociopath. He was a vengeful psychotic. A sociopath wouldn't have saved the son of the man who killed his wife and daughters. Nor would he have saved Jake. He still had a moral basis, but one that was no longer controlled by lawful good.

Not a huge fan of this film, but this scene describes the Punisher to his fullest: He doesn't want help. When his family died, that was it. From then on he was a one man killing machine. Good for him. As much as I love Spidey and Daredevil, think of how simple their lives would've been had they killed the Green Goblin or Kingpin.

+Madeline Frankow The punisher shows though that once you are over that line, you don't come back, there is no happy ending for him or even a small period of rest. He's walking that line and what do you think happens when all the big guys go, he goes for the little guys, soon he'll come for you. Some would say even though his motives are black and white, his motivations are flawed and that's what makes him dangerous. Lines are there for a reason. just imagine how he'd be if he had powers.

+I'm Awesome The latest Batman trilogy was pretty good. I know it's hard, but you have to put the nostalgic criticism to the side, and remember that quite a few of the Shatner Star Trek films weren't quite so loved at the time. I think that there are many films of today that will stand the test of time, but mainly discarded by those newer generations, as well. You have to remember, there were a lot of shit films back then, too; you just remember the ones that survived, lol.

Still a good job though. But Lou Gossett Jr. You can feel the pain he has of trying to help his friend. And Alfred Molina you can feel for him when he loses his wife.

it seem like your classic 80s revenge movie with implausiblity but what you expect thats what hollywood is. A great underrated movie that seems vastly better than most action movies these days. Fight scenes and kills including gun shots are highly realistic. Great mlvie that I am proud to own.

Lundgren has developed into a solid actor. There were moments on Arrow where he delivered. Lundgren today could play Frank Castle/The Punisher and do a damn good job.

This movie is very polarizing. People mostly to love it or hate it, not many have a feeling in between. I can say it had flaws, but was largely true to the nature and the spirit of the comic book. It was also lots of fun. Maybe it's better if you knew the comic first. But I really liked this movie.

The biggest complaint i've heard is "He doesn't wear the skull." And I get that, but otherwise the movie really isn't that bad at all. It's pretty standard for an 80s action movie. I enjoy it as much as movies like Cobra or any of the Dirty Harry sequels.

James Evans Why is it a problem you ask? Simple. The skull represents what he is. That skull is his symbol and it is a symbol of punishment and death. Without that skull, he just isn't the Punisher. He would be nothing more but an angry, gun-toting vigilante. At least, that's the way I see it.

ThePizzadude93 Not really he's called Punisher for a reason and in 2 scenes in the movie he's called Punisher because he questioned why the enemies of society haven't been killed while the innocent are also knowing his origin of him wanting to forgive but failing at it also gives it a stronger reason to be called the Punisher. While the Skull isn't on his shirt it's present in the movie a lot but you don't notice it until near the end of the flick.

In another world, Dolph Lundgren would've been the guy who played Batman - not Michael Keaton. Dolph had the looks, charisma, physique and fighting skills....he would've aced the role.

The movie had flaws. But it had moments and style too. I'm personally grateful to have seen it. In some ways....many ways...I feel it was a bit truer to the comic than the later movies. The Thomas Jane version was a good movie. I just didn't feel it really captured the SPIRIT of the Punisher. I felt this version did that part, at least, better.

Wrong, the best for the last 14 years was Thomas Jane. Its a very close call with the new Jon Bernthal Punisher. He does amazing but alot of it comes down to his marine voice being so damn boomy and scary. But I prefer Thomas Jane personally and gutted we will never see the sequel to his 2004 film

My favorite of all the punisher adaptations. One of my favorite comic movies since i was a lad. I havent seen the netflix one but I'm sure its garbage compared to the briliance that this scene is. And i mean it. When Louis Gosset says to him "i been looking for you for 5 years".. Theres truth in it. I feel his pain.

I’ve never been able to get into the remakes; this is the only Punisher movie to me. Such great acting, and trailers never show much of Kim Miyori as Lady Tanaka but she was deliciously evil in this. And Jeroen Krabbe always good in what he does. Not one bad actor chosen for their part in this. Still have the vhs even tho I have no vcr.

This movie reminds me of Conan the Barbarian of the 80's. I think it helps to have grown up in that era of movies to get a better "feeling of context" of what the movie was.
