Mate, police didn't "sell out" to protect capital. The police is an institution, a state/government branch that's there to inherently enforce class relations, they protect capital while telling labor to know their place and oppress/repress labor in order to keep those class relations intact, this has been its function since it was created in the first half of the 19th century.

No dude, you shouldn't have respect for veterans. They aided the war machine that goes around the globe invading, ruining and plundering nations, commiting all sorts of crimes and ending lives. All veterans are bad, you wouldn't think this from a gangster thug that goes around extorting and killing people, why do you feel sympathy for these legalized thugs? They should be ashamed of themselves for helping a murder machine that's responsible for the death of millions upon millions of people.

It's actually very common for people to not be properly held accountable. Money and/or power generally controls that kind of thing. Companies have built buildings that have collapsed down on people (some even evacuating themselves and just hoping the reports of building instability would be dealt with after the shoppers left) and paid nothing, taken no penalty for dozens or hundreds of deaths. Or some CEO will get 2 months for hundreds of broken lives, let out on good behavior in 1. Honestly, I think the law system itself needs a good restructuring so people can actually be charged for real crimes and not like, "dude had a dime bag and a counterfeit 20! So I shot him twice while he was running away from my crazy arse!" Personally, I think all of our institutions are in dire need of an update and some common sense.

This kind of "holistic masculinity" , the "Can't We All Just Get Along" dudes, need a perimeter warning when its going off the reservation or at the very least, well past their pay grade. This stuff and him bringing Shia LeBouf on his podcast to wax on wax off about his addiction recovery sparked by FKA Twigs going public and exposing his horrific abuse of her , is more of the "A mind so open it falls out of your head" genre of interviewing. Like I get it, actors meet people to get reference for roles (and given his roles a lot of them are police) , they hang out and get to know each other and think if they don't turn them off upon first meeting them, they gotta be cool, ok dudes, right? And then they empathize with them and view specific issues through their eyes, but professional empathy is a skill with a limit, hence the need for a perimeter warning.

Maybe stupid question, and idk if you'll even read this, but why are you so interested in American politics and American culture war topics? I'm genuinely curious. Really appreciate and enjoy your content. But, as someone from the inside looking out (since I take it that you are a foreigner), why do you choose to focus on the stuff happening here in the states? Either way, response or no, thanks for bringing attention to all the topics you discuss. Really have enjoyed the JP videos. Cheers, man!

Personally, I can't join the police (my autism means I'm disqualified) and I tried to go into the legal profession and studied a Graduate Diploma in Law (ASDA turned me down for the checkout job). One thing that stuck out to me in my study of law was that it is very property centric, a right is a property people own in a lot of ways from a legal point of view and so most of the remedy for wrong doing is built around redress and deterrence. Now I consider myself a Moderate (worker ownership of the means of production, democratic ownership of utilities, advancing the presence of marginalized communities, decriminalization of victimless "crimes" etc.) and so I've been wondering if perhaps the police need to be integrated with social welfare services (mental health services, employment services, education services, emotional support groups etc.) similar to how the Black Panthers had both a wing that worked with the community to keep order and multiple empowerment programs both of which focused on what their community needed rather than a top down institutional view. Does this sound like a good idea?

If that man thinks that no other institution can be corrupted to the point it hurts their reputation...he hasn't taken much time to think. Education has crippled itself this way. So has health care. Every institution we have is taking criticism from all the gaping cracks growing in our systems. The interview seems out of touch with the realities of life for the unlucky and disadvantaged.

this pernicious "both sides have done bad things and both sides have legitimate grievances" view that Bernthal expresses in the conversation with a former cop and a former gang member has been percolating into U.S. popular culture for decades through cop dramas and crime dramas on TV. These shows portray this same "reality" that Bernthal believes in, and it's a very common belief amongst the naive middle-class here in the U.S.
