Incredible video, I've been playing the mode casually for almost 2 years and this answered basically every question I've had about it.

Hey I love that! That's pretty much what the video exists for, so I'm very happy to hear that 💙

Doesn't help that people who try to win are outweighed by people who just want easy xp/tomes so they do barely anything.

Somewhat, but there's statistically an even number of them on every team. Just play your game and you can still win relatively consistently.

It's unfortunate, but queue time would probably be awful if we didn't have this incentive. Plus, as much as I enjoy playing frontline by itself, I definitely appreciate being able to passively level my alts through one of my preferred game modes.

Tbh I take it as a way to improve my own skill more than anything. I’m trying to get my first tier 30 so getting better is a goal for me. Potentially one more player tryna win!! 🏆

@@Calmlamity This is just an asspull. That's inherently untrue. Stats or it's bullshit. There are nothing but throwers and over-confident idiots on any given team. Please, cut the shit.

Lots of info, great video! o7 I like how you talk about objective priority and how to rotate in each of the maps as the match progresses.

The goal was to have people not just flounder around in Frontlines, but actually have a good idea of what's happening. I'm glad that comes across :)

Thanks for this, although the video has some outdated bits at this point I've learned a lot of stuff just through playing but the actual strategy (where to look for pinches etc) is super helpful as more intermediate knowledge.

Very informative video as always, Calm! The thing I most hope new PVPers will take away from it is the tip to always try to angle to where you have an escape route ready to go. Oh, and the concept of pinching, too :D

Thanks for making this video. I completely suck at pvp in ffxiv. I am a FPS scrub at heart and have to basically learn a completly different type of combat. So thanks again for making this. I hope to get decent soon

I'm linking this video every time I play Seal Rock now. I'm SO glad you said West has an advantage because people who have played this game for years think it's false. Can't tell you how many times I see older players in the North head directly South & often keep battling them over nodes making us lose the game or pushing far past than they should. Very sick of players making shot calls when they've played the game for years but don't understand the strats or concept of push/pull. The ego struggle for them is real. Ty for keeping it real.

Frontlines CAN be enjoyable. ..If you've never played Guild Wars 2's World Versus World. Or AvH WoW. Or Black Desert's Guild vs Guild. Or Mabinogi's Castle War. Or Runescape Clan Wars. Or Archeage. Or Ultima Online. Or well, really any other game that didn't revamp their core system four different times? I hate being skeptical but it still isn't fun from relaunch to now. Hell, even Hamlet Defense from 1.0 was still a more moment to moment engagement experience and that was PvE.

Oh yes, the riveting Alterac Valley gameplay where both teams run past each other and race to kill the PvE boss first. Frontlines is better than Alterac Valley. Isle of Conquest also a flop, for that matter, Wintergrasp was an unbalanced mess, the Baradin Hold one was literally nothing but a giant question mark. WoW doesn't do large-scale PvP well even a little bit, and judging by their ret paladin release, they don't do small scale very well anymore either. Frontlines is better than WoW's large scale PvP and it's really not even close.

I have to admit I really hate Frontlines. Crystalline Conflict eventually became fun, Frontlines never stopped feeling like an eternal fustercluck where your personal contributions barely matter at all. And I will readily admit to just giving up when my team is in third place and trailing by several hundred points. It’s technically possible to come back from that, but so unlikely that…. Why bother?
@Calmlamity

The issue with giving up is that it's very very common for the 2nd place team to hard focus the first place team in an attempt to get into first, leaving third free to make up a ton of ground, if not take the lead outright. Particularly on Onsal, it's really common.

Frontline PvP is a lot of lights flashing and then you walk your tank back wondering what you're doing there besides being target practice. I don't like PvP in almost any MMO, but this is so hars to understand I don't even know what kills me. A tank who just dies because 3 lights flashed while still on the mount is just not an aspect of gameplay I find worth my time. Other than I need 10k more marks for a hairstyle, never touching it again and I'll be happier for it.
@Calmlamity

First, I play with only "some" PvP graphics showing. "All" is entirely too much visual clutter, especially in Frontlines. Then, it's a matter of playing enough to understand what lights are worth paying attention to and how to respond to them. It's harder than anything else in this game save maaaaaybe for Ultimates. But with enough time and practice, you can be great at it too!

"As much fun in pvp as I do" There's no such thing as fun in pvp. There's people trying to slog through it or sweaty people playing a ranged dps or healer. Nobody knows how to focus on objectives and there's no way to turn around a loss from one play of people ignoring the objective and allowing them to get flanked.
