Luxenberg argues that the verse about marrying "hoor" actually meant rest because the diacritical marks weren't even part of the proto quran which is widely known so when he removes them the word becomes resting under crystalline grapes. 1. As a language , Quran uses the Arabic language . And the Arabic language does have a relationship with the more ancient languages , such as Aramaic etc which are growing in the middle east region near the Arabian peninsula. 2. As a religious text , the Quran does have a connection with the ancient texts , especially those owned by religious Jews and Christians , religious who comes from one root . So , I agreed to say that the Quran is derived from Syriac or Aramaic , because religion presented in the text of the Quran comes from the same root , since revealed to the Prophet Adam, through Noah, Moses ( 10 commandements ) , David ( Ark ) , Jesus ( Bible ) until Muhammad ( Quran )

I know and speak Aramaic. Qur'an is not borrowed from Aramaic texts but that doesn't mean Islam in general doesn't use Aramaic words... For example, Muslims speak of the "Dajjal" meaning "anti-Christ", "Dajjal" is an Arabic rendering of Syriac "Dagala" which means "(male) liar". I'll just write a general list of Syriac words used in Islam... 'Isa - Jesus -> Syriac-Aramaic - 'Ishu. dajjal - anti-Christ -> Syriac - daggala qurban - sacrifice/offering -> Syriac - qurbana amin - amen -> Syriac/Hebrew amin Jannah - heaven/paradise -> Syriac - genta Jahanam - Hell/Lake of Fire -> Syriac - Gehenna or Hebrew - Gai Hinnom is most likely. Khamr - wine/drug -> Syriac - khamra madrasa - school (religious or general) -> Syriac - madrashta meaning 'place of debate/studies' Medina - city -> Syriac - medi(n)ta - 'n' is silent in Syriac version so it sounds like "medeeta" nafs - soul -> Syriac - nafsha qurbah - closeness to god -> Syriac - qurbah rahman - merciful -> Syriac - raHmana RuH - spirit -> Syriac - RuHa SSawm - fasting -> Syriac - SSawma TTalaq - divorce -> Syriac - TTlaqa meaning "get lost"

Aramaic was the lingua franca of the Middle East before Arabic was the lingua franca. The Quranic texts are borrowed from the Syriac "Nestorian" liturgies as to where monotheism came from. The Arabic language did not suddenly come into existence, it comes from other older languages, just like ANY OTHER LANGUAGES on Earth. Also, languages evolve over time. Some words mean different things. Even between region, words have different meaning, even the people are speaking the same languages. Yes, it is something to think about. Very interesting. Their hearts will be as one, and there will be no hatred or jealousy among them. Each man will have two wives from among *al-hoor al-‘iyn* , the marrow of whose calves can be seen from beneath the bone and flesh.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, no. 3014) Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (may Allaah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The lowest of people in status in Paradise will be a man whose face Allaah turns away from the Fire towards Paradise, and shows him a tree giving shade. He will say, ‘O Lord, bring me closer to that tree so that I may be in its shade… Then he will enter his house [in Paradise] and his two wives from among *al-hoor al-‘iyn* will come in and will say to him, ‘Praise be to Allaah who brought you to life for us and brought us to life for you.’ Then he will say, ‘No one has been given what I have been given.’” (Narrated by Muslim, no. 275) HAHAHAHA we have finished Luxembourg's funeral! alright then. what is your REPLY to this :Arabic is the _OLDEST_ living Semitic language. Aramaic and Hebrew do not even come remotely close to being as archaic and well preserved a Semitic language as Arabic is. Some Jews and Christians have tried to attack the language of the Qur'an when their attacks on the Qur'an have failed, but the simple fact is that Hebrew & Aramaic were much more evolved 3000+ years ago, than Arabic is till this day. It is completely impossible for Arabic to have evolved from Syriac or Hebrew, because those languages are like simplified forms of Arabic, not the other way 'round. The proof of this is very simple. Arabic preserves 28 of the original 29 Semitic letters, modern Hebrew only preserves about 20 (Ancient Biblical Hebrew only preserved 25), modern Aramaic (e.g Syriac) only preserves 22. Arabic preserves the case inflection system, dual markers etc. all things which disappeared from Aramaic and Hebrew at least 3000+ years ago. The idea that Arabic could be a descendant of these languages, or could have evolved from them is just ludicrous. The idea they could've descended from Arabic (or it's direct ancestor) though is quite plausible. Hebrew and Aramaic have undergone many simplifications in their sounds. As an example the word "bint" (girl) in Arabic is said as "bat" in Hebrew. It is the same word, but due to the noon saakin in this word, they lost the noon from it thousands of years ago. In plural form they still say banot (banaat, as long alef became 'o' in Hebrew), but in singular form they lost the noon altogether from the word. The same for "ins" (human) which became "ish" in Hebrew, again the noon has been completely removed from the word. Another example is their word kharash (meaning: plough a field and also to be silent), which doesn't initially seem to match any Arabic words. But if we know they merged Haa & Khaa into Khaa and Sin/Shin & Thaa into Shin, then we can realise this is actually two words that have merged into one. Haratha (plough/harvest a field) and Kharasa (be silent). Aramaic has also undergone many simplifications like this. If Arabic were descended from Hebrew or Aramaic or even heavily influenced by them, then we'd expect to see these simplifications carried over into Arabic, yet we do not. Arabic is almost completely free of such simplifications. Apart from the letters Sin & Samek having merged together in Arabic sometime just before the Islamic period for almost all dialects, there are very few simplifications in Arabic. So the idea that the language of the Qur'an is the simplified and corrupted language of Aramaic/Syriac is just ridiculous. The Arabic language of the Qur'an and it's pristine Semitic features predates Aramaic's corruptions by thousands of years. Anyone who knows a little of both languages would know this instantly.

@baskybask6327

rocky balboa You don't understand the argument at all. Nobody is saying that Arabic "evolved" from Syriac as a predecessor. Rather the argument is that the language used in portions of the Qur'an reflects Syriac insofar as it (1) uses Syriac terms or loan-words; (2) uses Syriac grammar; (3) uses Syriac orthographic conventions; (4) in portions is Arabic that was translated from Syriac; and (6) makes references to Syriac literature. None of this means that Arabic "evolved" from Syriac any more than English "evolved" from Arabic simply because many English words (like algebra) came from Arabic, or because the numerals we use are Arabic numerals. But that doesn't mean the English language didn't get them from Arabic; we certainly did. On a related point, the fact that almost all of the Qur'an's religious terminology, including the very word "Qur'an," derives from Syriac, is indicative of the historical circumstances in which that terminology entered the Arabic lexicon.

The reason why they can change a ر to a ز and a ن to a ت or a ب is because there were no diacritic points (no "dots" to indicate the specific consonant) in the Arabic alphabet of that day. When you look at it seriously and consult history and linguistics, it actually makes a lot of sense...
@Far7anR
8 жыл бұрын
from my understanding, the diacritical marks are more like vowel marks - the fatta, dhamma and kisra, and the like. the actual consonants themselves should have already formed, so that a ba and a tha and a nun can all be differentiated - or else the written language would not have been functional and comprehensible at all.
@andrewsteeves6982
8 жыл бұрын
+Far7anR More or less yes. I have heard people call kasras, dhomas, etc "diacritic points" But I'm not even talking about the vowel markings. I'm talking about the dots that distinguish between SPECIFIC CONSONANTS. Those "dots" are what distinguish "R's" from "z's" (ر ز)And they distinguish "b's" "n's" "t's" and "th's" (ب ن ت ث) from each other. The same goes for most other letters in the Arabic alphabet ج ح خ ع غ ف ق ص ض س ش ى ي د ذ ط ظ for example. LOOK AT THE PHOTOS OF THE QURAN IN QUESTION. Do you see ANY DOTs. ANY DOTS WHATSOEVER!!! You see NONE. And I'm not even talking about the vowel markings. Although those are absent as well. I'm talking about the dots that distinguish CONSONANTS. LOOK AT THE PHOTOS OF THE QURAN IN QUESTION. There are none of THOSE DOTS, the ones that distinguish consonants. Doesn't that strike you as rather SHOCKING?
@Far7anR
8 жыл бұрын
i mean, i there are dots in some places, and in other places there seems to be stylistic features in how the letters are written that serve the same function as dots. dots are not the only way - if u look into a bit of how arabic is handwritten even today ull see that. at ur request, i looked a bit into the birmingham copy that was recently found, and i saw such stylistic differences as well as diacricial marks when necessary. u have to keep in mind that the peservation and passing of the qur'an was oral, from mouth of teacher to mouth of student. the text only served as a placeholder and reminder - a crutch. the standardization of the texts only happened to make things easier and to have an official safegaurd against future confusion and corruption. as such, the writing is definitely enough to serve that purpose. the texts arent meant to be used to learn the quran from, but rather as a reminder. i know it may sound weird, but thats literally how things are done to this day - the text is just a reminder and a crutch for the oral preservation.
@Far7anR

4:38 is completely wrong. People aren’t randomly changing the words. The original Quran did not have vowel. It was only consonantal text. So it is up to the reader to add the vowels to construct a meaningful sentence. If I wrote this consonantal text, one cannot know which language it is in. “n um sncr mor di fm.” Depending on which vowels one places where, one can construct the same sentence in both Italian and Romanian (“A sincere man dies of hunger.”) 6th century Arabic and Syriac had the same consonant letters. So we cannot guarantee the language of the Quran just by looking at the consonantal text. People only claim the Quran is Arabic because the standard Islamic narrative says this. However that cannot be trusted since since those traditions are from 200-300 years after the time of the Quran manuscripts.

This is a clear ignorance of Islamic history, the Qur’an was orally transmitted and preserved, it does not require reading and constructing sentences in order to understand the words. We can most definitely guarantee the language by looking into the oral transmitted history in which we found that the prophet (pbuh) transmitted the words and preserved it up until it’s physical compilation. It goes much deeper than that but people try to just refute Islam based on emotions and false assumptions rather than learning the history and Islamic sciences themselves

When we say the word 'Arabic' then we have to distinguish what we mean by this word. The first Time this word was mentioned was around 800 BC. And some historians say it goes back to 1200 BC. But most importantly who are those people called Arabs at that time and what language did they speak ? But according to some archeologists what was considered to be Arabic was actually a Syriac/aramaic dialect same as other Semitic languages in that region that were also Aramaic dialects. So when we say the Qur'an (or Qirin in Syriac) was in Arabic, that is true. But It was not in the Arabic language that we know.

I am thinking, Jews and Christians have their own scriptures, if we assume their scriptures are corrupted, at least they have oral tradition and at least they have firm belief about life after death and heaven. Let's take one example, in Judaism and Christian belief, there is no such thing as marrying many wifes in heaven or having good sex life in heaven (as hadith says). Prophet muhammad was not the only prophet, there are many prophets came before him and they didn't mention anything about what they'll get in heaven.

Another claim Luxemburg makes is that there is no obligation to wear the hijab but rather that it means to "tighten one's belt". Would you be kind enough to explain me how "tightening one's belt" fits into surah 24, verse 31? How would "tightening one's belt" ever be a sign of modesty? Also, if you believe Luxenberg's arguments, then you'll need to go against multiple ahadith. For example, if the Muhammad (saw) isn't the "seal of the prophets", as it is claimed, then how do you explain that the word used for "seal" has been used multiple times in the Qur'an and that many ahadith further emphasize this point, even giving the analogy of a brick building missing a single brick (i.e. a multitude of prophets awaiting the last and final one). It annoys me to say this but, if you're a christian or an atheist for example, you don't need to destroy -- or at least to attempt to -- other's beliefs to prove you're right.

@@bayreuth79 That the quran is Nestorian bro I see it with the Isa son of Mary (Christiotokus) hence Surah 5:116 which is actually attacking the Christians who call Mary the mother of God (Theotokus) which Nestorius argument eas you are kind of making Mary sound divine by saying this and how Jesus is a man or servant of Allah and how Nestorian argued in order for Christ to suffer on the Cross he must be human. See the argument is that Jesus didn't die on the cross the real argument is that God aka the divine nature of Jesus cannot die on the cross. The issue is called Theopascism which was discussed in 451bc but for some reason people don't highlight that part of the debate between Nestorian and Church. If you go to the Assyrian Church of the East they also reject that God died on the Cross (Theopascism). What Muslims say is not the same thing the Quran says in fact the Quran doesn't deny Jesus is the son of God its just they want to emphasis how human he was as well as divine.

All this argument why wont you ask Quran to explain it origin. Aعjamiu and Arabiu. Quran can decide to be in Aعjam but instead is in Arabian. It simple shows this two languages have been reserve for so long. Now let move to the prayer of Abraham about "lisan sidqin" he pray for Allah on that and Allah granted. Henceforth the language of Quran is from Abraham and his descendants.

Me thinks the man doth protest too much. But we welcome the dialogue. These guys do not know Aramaic or Syriac language. The absurdity of these objections and assumptions is a testament of the fear that Muslims have of showing that the Qu’an is a compilation not a revelation. Luzenberg never says “marry white grapes.” He says that white grapes is a symbol of God’s bounty and love and that there is a Christian proto-Quran. There is a mural showing white grapes in heaven in the third century. Also, there are many different Qurans that had to be suppressed before the present one was establish as the authoritative text of today in the 1920s. Also not addressed in the Muhammad Sura verse one where it talks about God forgiving believers based upon faith, which is totally Christian. The proto-Quran was written by Aramaic Monophysites who rejected the Trinity. Nor do these true believers address the number one finding of luxenberg that the word Muhammad in the Quran, appearing four times, was not signifying a man’s name but a title. Why, too, is Jesus mentioned so many times in the Quran? Those who created the Arabic Quran lived 200 years after Mohammed’s death. As for Mecca be a land of milk and honey we must turn to Petra and Don Gibson’s analysis of the Quiblas. As for me, now I can read the Quran through Christian eyes and it actually makes sense.

Who and when said that Aramaic is NOT Arabic? It is the same thing, it is common knowledge and never disputed fact, about this Greeks and Romans wrote pages since Homer called Arabs - "Eremboi". "... reports of Posidonius’ reasoning by Strabo are essentially the same, but they mutually complement each other in some interesting ways. According to the earlier one, (1.2.34 = fr. 280 E.-K.), one should read Eremboi (or Aramboi) in Homer and understand this to mean Arabs, since three peoples, Arameans (Syrians), Armenians, and Arabs, are very similar in their languages, modes of living, physical characteristics, and life in close proximity to each other. The similarity of these peoples is greater, the closer they are to each other: the Syrians and those Armenians and Arabs who dwell in Mesopotamia have some differences, in accordance with their geographical locations (notice that the main cause of differences within Mesopotamia is the latitude - klima - of the habitats of these nations), but the similarity of peoples prevails; the larger differences between the Syrians and the Armenians and Arabs beyond Mesopotamia (most Armenians and Arabs dwell naturally beyond its borders) thus prove that all these peoples initially formed a unity and inhabited Mesopotamia."

Tzortizs is only talking rubbish here. First of all, there are not much experts in the format of a Luxemberg. Very few people do know these ancient languages, and Tzortzis is surely not one of them. Second, Luxemberg did not start his work with the presuppositon of anything, but the work started with old Qur`anic fragments, and an analysis of what language this actually was, and what is was talking about. Its Tzortzis that has the presupposition that the islamic tradition is true. But this is not the way a scientific research should be done. You have to look at the facts, not at the history, or the oral tradition. If the facts speak for themselves, then we have to accept reality, even if it collides with our ideology. I would reccommend everyone to read the books of these guys for themselves, instead of listening to these clowns. And to make fun of Luxemberg for using a false name, is really disgusting. We all have seen what happens to people who are talking in a "wrong" way about Islam. Theo van Gogh, or Salman Rushdie are really bad examples for muslim behaviour. Why would anyone ´join their fate, if it can be avoided?

What a load of twaddle. You cannot compare a person who makes an intellectual criticism of Islam with Theo van Gogh, or Salman Rushdie. They were seen as mocking the religion and poking a finger in the eye of Muslims. There are many scholars who say ludicrous things about Islam and many who debate vigorously against it. I haven't seen any death threats agains James White the Christian. Have you? Muslims don't like dishonest scholars but they welcome that kind of debate. Does Tzortzis and the interviewer seem upset by these claims? Are they offended and wanting revenge. No. They get on with the job of refuting these arguments. You can of course be unimpressed with the arguments presented and maybe you should spend some time refuting these arguments. You could even offer to meet in person with Tzortzis to put him straight. Rather than be offended I would imagine he'd be happy to debate if he has the time and he would offer you some tea and biscuits. Tell you what. If you arrange the meeting, I'll pay for the tea and bics. If you can't do that, then put up your own video summarizing the points you find so convincing.

Hamza misses the point. The fact remains that the oral Arabic language did not have a written alphabet, and this was supplied by Aramaic. But there was a mismatch in that not all of the Arabic sounds were represented, creating ambiguities that could only be resolved by the later introduction of diacritics. However, by that time the Quran had already been written and it was therefore impossible to know what the original words were, hence the 10+ qiraat.
@lightscameras4166

I think you have no idea what you’re talking about. You are right in saying that there was no Arabic alphabet, but that would be 1st century Arabia, NOT 7th century Arabia. If you have not studied the historical linguistics and epigraphy of Ancient North Arabian and its scripts (Hismaic, Safaitic etc) then you cannot have an opinion on this. The 10 different Qiraat are a different issue, you are going off topic without even knowing either’s subject matter. By the 7th century Arabic had its own script far different from Aramaic. Even non Muslim scholars of the Quran like Marijn van Putten would find this theory stupid. The Quran we have today is the exact same one that Muhammad recited. The ten Qiraat are accent and vowel differences, they do not change the text of the Quran. This is the power of oral tradition

quran have syriac texts because arabs were Christians.. Pope Gregory was already the 64th pope of the Roman Catholic Church and there was no Islam. Saint Sophronius was an arab patriarch of Jerusalem. Simply look at what islam made the first muslims do.. observe your own laws.. its not normal for a religion to steal someones temple or church and turn it into a mosque.. remember, King Al Harith was not a muslim. your quran would not exist without the bible written in syriac, aramaic text. The Greeks can easily prove that Islam doesnt exist for the Eastern Roman empire covers Alexandria, Jerusalem, Antioch, and Constantinople and towards the western borders of persia wherein the rival during that time was the Persians. and what is now Jordan and the valley of bakkah or mecca.. its actually part of the eastern roman empire or the Greeks. are Greeks muslims? no, why? because they preserved the memory of Pentarchy, they dont believe in mohammad as the last prophet, nor allah as the God.

I appreciate the attempt, but these are all straw-man attacks. You don’t need Syriac in Mecca, because Mecca was not where the Qur’an developed. Whether there was oral tradition is irrelevant. The question is why there are so many words in the Qur’an in their Aramaic form (all the names, for instance). “White-eyed” is never a description of beauty (only blindness). Borrowing from other voices does not deny the Qur'an's sacredness. You use the phrase "presume its results." That's not your original words. It's what I also heard at university. Today idioms and phrases are borrowed from typical college debate expressions. Nothing wrong with that. And how about "It's like" that you repeat. That indicates to future generations you are not speaking "baby boomer' English, but millennial or post millennial. Here another issue: Aramaic was the language of empires, not just Syria. I learned that in graduate school in the 1970's, one taught at Harvard University. it was used throughout the Middle East. The language is inbreed in many of the Middle eastern language groups today, including Arabic. Here is a reference written before the current Syro-Arabic controversy began: QUOTE: Of all the Jewish languages that have become extinct, or been dropped by Jews as a spoken language, Aramaic is the most famous. In truth, Aramaic cannot be accurately described as a "Jewish language"; for unlike Yiddish, for example, which was spoken only by Jews and some gentiles with Jewish connections, Aramaic was the spoken tongue in a number of communities including Jews. Aramaic cannot be accurately described as a "Jewish language" Nevertheless, it's definitely a language with strong Jewish ties. While nearly no Jews still speak it or a modern version of it, Aramaic is an important part of Jewish literary and liturgical tradition. The part of the Talmud called the Gemara is almost entirely in Aramaic (whereas the Mishnah part of the Talmud is Hebrew).1 Most of the Book of Daniel (chapter 2:4 through 7), describing events that occurred in Babylon in the 4th century BCE, and parts of the Book of Ezra are also in Aramaic. The Book of Zohar, other kabbalistic and halachic works, and sections of the Dead Sea Scrolls are written in Aramaic The traditional ketubah (marriage contract) and Jewish divorce document are also in Aramaic. The same is true of many hymns and prayers, such as the first paragraph of the Passover Haggadah, "This is the bread of our affliction"; the wonderful song about the goat at the end of the seder, Chad Gadya; the prayer for the dead, known as the kaddish; and various other prayers and synagogue liturgy. Jewish Aramaic texts, however, both ancient and modern, are written using Hebrew letters with phonetic spelling. As with other Jewish languages, such as Yiddish, many terms are borrowed from Hebrew. The Long History of Aramaic Linguistic scholars believe that Aramaic arose somewhere between 900 and 700 BCE and was originally used by the Aramaeans (a Semitic semi-nomadic people who lived in upper Mesopotamia and Syria).2 It is part of the Semitic family of languages which includes Hebrew, Arabic, Ethiopic and the ancient Babylonian and Assyrian languages of Akkadian. It is closely related to Hebrew with the script being very similar. In fact, the Talmud (Pesachim 87b) tells us that, after the destruction of the First Temple, G‑d specifically chose to exile the Jews to Babylon because of the similarity of languages, to ease the acculturation process. Babylonian and Persian empires which ruled from Ethiopia to India. The Jews who returned to Israel from Babylonian captivity and established the Second Jewish Commonwealth in the 4th century BCE brought Aramaic with them. During this time, Hebrew lost its place as an everyday language amongst Jews, who adopted Aramaic instead. Hebrew was known as the Lashon Hakodesh, or the "Holy Tongue," and was reserved for matters such as prayer, and not for ordinary social and commercial activities. (A similar situation developed centuries later with Yiddish.) During this period, knowledge of Hebrew was limited amongst the masses to the extent that the public reading of the Scripture in Hebrew had to be accompanied by a translation in Aramaic. Some of these targums, as they were known, also incorporated interpretation. Aramaic was so dominant in Jewish life that both the Jerusalem and the Babylonian Talmuds are dominated by Aramaic. END OF QUOTE THE BOTTOM LINE: At the time of the Hajj, THE JEWS SPOKE ARAMAIC NOT HEBREW in Medina, when the Prophet was there. The Jews arrived in Mecca and Medina from Syria and Jerusalem beginning with the Roman subjugation of the land by Titus circa 70 CE. These Jews spoke Aramaic, not Hebrew. In caravan work Muhammad would have had to know some Aramaic. By the 9th century CE, and after the Muslim conquest, the Jews spoke Arabic.

There are many Semitic and non-Semitic civilizations which far surpassed that of the Arabs though this isn't to say that Arabs didn't build any great civilizations. They had Petra, Sheba and other awesome civilizations but they were not the greatest.

@@samhussain8918 Music wasn't invented by Muslims. Musical instruments have been found in all civilizations even before the advent of Islam.
