@sixmercer2504
5 жыл бұрын
@@Sapphire-dw7sd I get that. It's disturbing and sad to me that these animals are being sold like this to be hatched and raised in totally unknown situations by people who may not know the first thing about this. Not to mention they wind up without a mother which is so important to the well-being of all animals. When do we stop using animals for pure luxury or enjoyment? To each their own. I'm not some crazy vegan PETA animal rights activist. It's just upsetting to see yet another way to entertain ourselves at the expense of a life that's considered less important than us. It's just not for me.
@sixmercer2504

@Brankend Yes, I am well aware that farmers work hard to feed their families. I wasn't talking about farmers. However we eat meat and dairy far more than necessary, but I wasn't even stating that opinion. That's not my argument. This buying and hatching live baby birds for your children to yell and chase them and pick them up and squeeze them just to drop them on the ground to do it all again. That's torture for these babies who don't know what is going on. I'm sure it's terrifying. I'm not here knocking the meat and dairy industry, although they certainly have their problems with being humane. I think we could do things a with a whole lot more respect and we don't need a McDonald's on every freaking corner. But this "hatch eggs for your entertainment so you can let your kids have their way with them" is totally unnecessary and it's abusive. I think we need to mandate a lot more things than we do and much better than we have in the past. No, I'm not getting into the vegan vs. meat/dairy argument. I am simply saying that I disagree with this form of entertaining the family using live baby animals. It's like the "micro-mini pot belly pigs that people keep breeding just for people to find they are WAY more work than they realized, they get WAY bigger than they were told they would, and they try to raise them in an upstairs apartment the humane society has to find a way to get them out of when they are finally relinquished at 300 pounds. They then wind up in horrible "sanctuaries" totally messed up and now unadoptable and miserable being in with hundreds of strange pigs they don't know and don't want to be around. There are always these fads that get all big like bunnies at Easter. It's not fair to use live animals for a laugh and a cuddle to get sick of them or hand them over for someone else to do something with when they just wind up living a terrible short life to then be euthanized (if they're lucky).
@sixmercer2504
5 жыл бұрын
@Brankend I think you and I basically agree to an extent. However just like you said, all animals (that I know of) need their mothers in the very beginning of their life. For birds, they need their mothers before they hatch. Incubators are ok, but they don't come close to providing what the mother does. She tryna the eggs regularly, she keeps them moist, she provides the heat and comfort of her body while nesting. She also talks to them and the bonding begins well before they are hatched. A human with an incubator, no matter how careful, knowledgeable and loving, doesn't supply all of what the mother does. It bothers me that people take the eggs from the mother in the first place, they then sell them and send them to God knows who, God knows where through the mail (which I would have expected to be illegal but I guess they aren't considered alive at that point). It can't be very good for the growing chicks to be sent through the mail when the mother would be caring for them. So some random person or family then unboxes them and outs them in their system for incubation until the hatchlings are born...IF they live through all of that trauma. As we see in this guy's videos, his eggs are hit or miss with the best care he feels he provides. I wouldn't argue that he cares for and about them. But basically as soon as they're born his kids are grabbing them and chasing them and yelling. That's the time when the mother should be showing the babies how to be who they are. They are being nurtured and kept warm and safe nestled up under her for as long as they need to prepare them to "fly the coop". It's just unethical in my opinion.

Exactly. This is a sad way to entertain God knows what kind of people at the expense of an animal who doesn't have a voice or a choice (that wasn't meant to rhyme). Yeah, not cool for these baby animals to be chased and squeezed and dropped by a bunch of loud kids. I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like or agree with this. Sad. Lovely culture we all live in.

@@sixmercer2504 You're not the only one who agrees with this. I mean watching kids and even adults chase and squish the ducks is neither pleasant for the ducks or entertaining for us. It would be a lot more entertaining and pleasant for the ducks if you would leave them alone to let them waddle and do their thing.

shellie 99 just being responsible. Most birds hatched in incubators do not learn to properly forage for themselves. When they fly away and starve will you then be sad??? I am sad the kids will probably step on most of them and kill them!

A few years ago I took pictures of a mandarin duck in our local park lake. I live in Colorado. It was very hard not to notice this duck as soon I got to the lake as normally all our ducks here are mallards. We don’t see theses duck in Colorado at all. This mandarin stayed all summer. Just beautiful birds & I was very happy I was there to get pictures of him.

My Dad got some quail eggs at the feed store and an incubator so that I could watch. Stared at them for days! Then they started to pip. They waited until we left for church and hatched. After all of that watching, we missed the whole thing. 😞
