I have always scratched my head as to why the murderers (whoever they may have been, and whether or not Mary was in any way involved with the plot) chose such a conspicuous method of death. Maybe it's just my love of murder mysteries talking, but it seemed they had a perfect method of concealing that it WAS a murder at all. With Darnley already ill, they could've bribed or drugged his servants and finished the job with a pillow--or maybe slow poison over a longer period of time, concealed by Darnley's existing illness. And oh, alas, His Majesty took a turn for the worse, may God rest his soul! And no one would have been the wiser. Instead, they blow up the WHOLE DAMN HOUSE and strangle him...and alert half the countryside that there was a plot!

Has I understand it, if Darnley had died from the smallpox (and even the Frenchpox/syphilis) - ILLNESS rather than MURDER, than Mary Qween of Scots could of legally married/bonked Bothwell (or even Yaldabaoth) legally or something. Whomever She wedded would also been legally King or somesuch too. Folks don’t realise that Mary Qween of Scots was hailed from too serious bloody crime families - the Guise and the Medicis. Anyway, let’s face it, Lord Darnley seemed rather hard to kill. LITERALLY.

I think Mary wasn’t a part of the scheme but the English Queen Elizabeth 1 and her favorite councilor William Cecil plotted with the Scottish nobility to turn everyone against Mary so that Mary couldn’t steal her throne and would have to abdicate her own.

Darnley was thick as pigswill, garrulous, easily persuaded and vacillating. He was a perfect example of 'the nastiest things in the nicest packaging. He always insulted James Stewart, Earl of Moray, Mary's illegitimate half-brother and one of the most popular and capable men in Scotland. It was Darnley who proposed David Riccio as stand-in for Moray, when the latter ran off to England! So, it's not so much, 'who tried to kill Darnley' as much as 'who DIDN'T try to kill him!

Mary Queen of Scots had been married to the King of France who was a mere boy. Darnley was emotionally immature but he was tall, handsome , well-mannered and somewhat royal. Of course, she fell for him. He wanted to be acknowledged as king but he was too spoiled and lazy to assume the duties of a king. Supposedly, Darnley escaped the house by using a rope and chair. Apprehended in the garden, Darnley supposedly addressed his murderer as "kinsman".

Poor Mary, she was her own worst enemy . She had appalling taste in men . Wonder if it’s because she was sent so early to the French court. She would have been very sheltered as she was to marry the dauphin. By all accounts though she had a very happy childhood. Perhaps not mixing with many out of the Court. Her life was arranged for her and she’d never made a decision for herself ( unless of course, you can suffer to get through Reign!!!!!😱😱😱😱). 👵👵👵👵🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Not just appalling taste in men; she came to Scotland totally unprepared for the mess of squabblisng self-interest and rampant tribalism which defined that country's ruling class.

Another problem with Darnley was his religious viewpoint: his mum, Lady Douglas was a devout Catholic while his dad, the Earl of Lennox was a Protestant and 'king' Henry would not make up his mind, following both variations, when it suited him. During her formal presentation of her son to the Scottish nobles and the English ambassador, she sadly admitted to the latter that 'my husband has broken with me.' When Darnley spluttered that 'You had promised to forgive and forget!' Mary responded 'I have forgiven. But never will I forget! 'What if Cowdenknowes' pistol (pressed against her pregnant belly and misfires during Riccio's murder) had fired, my lord? What then!?' 'What position would we be in, him and me both?' 'And what position would you be in?! Oh, we do not know, but we may suspect!!' Alarmed at his Royal wife's anger and "flash of steel", Darnley spluttered 'Madam, such things are past!' Mary retorted, 'Then leave them so!!'

My Great great Grandfather x12 was Sir James Balfour of Pittendreich and was one of Mary Advisors. He was deeply implicated in the assination/murder of Lord Darnley and probably under direction of Bothwell. Murder and treachery was a quite a skill of Balfour's as he managed to keep his own head on his shoulders

My 12th great grandparents had an interesting (spoken sarcastically) marriage. It did produce James VI of Scotland & I of England. Such a tragic way for Lord Darnley to die; strangulation prior to the bombing of the place where he was in 1567. I have always said that my 12th great grandmother ruled with her heart and not with her head. Mary was smart but it sure didn't show in her marriages since it led to her death in the end.

My 10th Great Grandfather, was the Earl of Mar. He was sworn to Mary's protection and delv. her to France as a child. When she returned he was appalled at her lack of education & bouts of temper tantrums. He tried to support her & even brought her a Catholic Priest in secret for Mass. She over spent the Treasury on dresses and gave away lands to people the Nobel's did not approve of. It was said, that Lord Darnly was gay. And the Nobel's did not approve of him or the marriage. She was trying to produce and heir & get support from the Vatican. The Vatican ignored her, as she tried to wield her Crown and turn Scotland back towards Catholicism. This divided the country even deeper. She should have listened better.

First cousin marriages were traditional in all the royal families and in the larger population up until the nineteenth century. This accounts for deformities and mental illnesses in all the Royal families.

The plot against Rizzio was spearheaded by Lord Rudven they actually stabbed Rizzio 57 times whit daggers I believe the wedding they celebrated when Darnley died was the wedding of Mary's secretary the guy ho replaced Rizzio as for Darnley's murder I'm having suspicions that it's orchestrated by someone who was Rizzio's ally at court or abroad

@@plamenivanov92 hi, I wonder what Qween Mary’s later secretary (Claude Nau) had to say about Lord Darnley, King James, and Bothwell and Riccio? Also, another utterly weird thing is that (seemingly), in swappsies with Qween Mary, no attempt was made to give back Calais/English Flanders that had been (I reckon secretly gifted) to the Dukes of Guise/France. Qween Elizabeth I even called the Huguenots bluff by making the ‘new town’ of Le Havre English. Elizabeth I rightly didn’t want to play into the Borgia/Guise/Medici/Rome/Zionist Protestant vs Catholic psyop. Le Havre became English because Elizabeth I (rightly) demanded that France give back Calais and abodes. Again, why didn’t the mighty Guise family attempt get to get Qween Mary o’Scotland swapped for Calais or at least attempt so?
@plamenivanov92

@Joseph Yearwood and still the French did not give Caleis back plus I don't think Rizzio was her lover as far as I know he is gey what do you think is it possible Darnley allowed Rizzio to die because he was jealous could he be actually in love whit Rizzio and if yes was it reciprocated and what was Mary's relationship whit her last secretary

@@plamenivanov92 I have also thought that (despite the propaganda) that haps Lord Darnley was indeed actually very much in love with Mary Qween of Scots. Anyway, WHY DIDN’T THE POWERFUL GUISE FMILY (at least attempt) TO SWAP CALAIS/ENGLISH FLANDERS FOR THEIR KINSWOMAN? Something doesn’t upstack.
