You should of titled the video "The Rise an Fail of Jay Electronica." This guy really fumbled the ball. When I first heard Exhibit C i was like who the fuck is this dude. This song and his lyrics are fucking incredible. Definitely a breath of fresh air during a time when rap music was definitely going in a direction were lyricism wasn't a priority. Just like Papoose he failed to strike when the iron is hot. And when Jay Electronica finally released his official full length project we was to busy drilling to pay attention.
@freemanmuniya2330
8 ай бұрын
The difference between him and Papoose is the content. Jay electronica was more on a spiritual deep thinker level whereas papoose was more about ‘how good i can rap’, street mentality which is not a slight on him…they are just on 2 different levels.

Jay was never chasing what other rappers chase. Exhibit C was a mistake, that was some throw away shit he made because he had no music to bring to a radio show he was going to be on. Exhibit C was what they were working on. That song blew the fuck up. This dude didnt do a video. Didnt do a follow up...nothing. He went on to just randomly release songs online for free. Just random, one day you wake up and theres new Jay Electronica Music available. The story of who he is, what hes done with his life and how he ended up being a figure in music is the craziest shit. If you think this guy fumbled anything you arent watching closely.

What happens when this thing collapses?… What happens when the columns start buckling? … Are we seeing the collapse of an empire? Buying and selling, where’s the message that I can use? - Yasiin Bey ( the cutting room floor interview) I’ll tell you Jay Electronica is one of the few that will be left standing if this “thing” collapses… His message you can use and his messages in his music is what keeps the columns standing and those MC’s like him. Music that feeds your soul and educates you. That speaks truth in all of its forms. Music and Messages that will stand the test of time no matter what. Jay Electronica is the opposite of “Buying & Selling” he is on another plane like Yasiin. He speaks to eternal Truths. His music is worth more than gold and silver and power and money or position in society for all those things will come and go. Truth is Eternal. Jay Electronica is Eternal.

I hear all that... But this is the thing I hate about all of these lyrical miracle spiritual rappers who think that they are so good and the fans give them this God complex. Where they feel that they can leave the game on a hiatus or all the way behind, but then have so much to say about the state of music when they still can be contributing something today. If the empire and columns collapse nothing will change because artists like Kendrick, Jay Elec, Mos Def and the rest of these type of rappers; That act like they are too good too rap. If you left it up to guys like them currently there wouldn't be nothing to sell because they think they're too good to even put out a message.

But when it comes to projects , he NEVER puts forward the effort you need for a full complete project. He makes some shit in 15 minutes and gets writers block leaves it unfinished uninspired and still puts it out. It all started when he got signed bc he has no creative control over his masters. Jay Electronica went through all of these delays due to censorship. It's the type of things he says that make it truth. That's the prime reason why an album had to be stalled. The first black man to be super lyrical and actually be too damn close the cabal. Him and Lupe are the last two to hold social commentary at God tier levels. And we know Lupe was the one who had the Atlantic hack glitch. While Jay dodged the Diddy shells, calling out oligarchs who are full of themselves, yet keeping his spiritual duties intact. Ngga literally walked away Erykah like he was immune to her magic. And that alone is some shit that isn't average. I just don't believe people and avid Hip-Hop/Rap listeners are watching. The man is behind the scenes. That Oxford visit told it all. You don't have a lot of time for Rap moving like that, dude is a globetrotter. Not a rapper.

If Jay kept dropping at least mixtapes? The fans would’ve been just fine with that cause he’s putting out new material! It’s not always about albums, as an emcee? As long as you put out something that fans can relate and resonate? You good! Some stuff in this video had me confused and was weird out by it. Like when tf did Jay had the time to fuck with Rothschild’s wife? Some question how tf he travel without no money? Y’all don’t believe that this man has connections 😂! But the Bun B story with Jay Electronica I felt was a bit weird. Cause if I was Bun B and Jay Electronica hit me up saying I was in town and wanna meet up with me and somebody will pick me up at 5am? And it’s after midnight and I’m at a club? I would’ve told him “Hey look man I’ll catch you another time.” Top of that Bun B waited 20 minutes before Jay showed up and wanted to sit with him to watch the 🌅 and listen to some of songs he done. And he’s asking which song he like to jump on, it’s the morning and Bun B is not in his right mind focused to answer that but he said his music was great. Those memories are rare, you barely hear stories like that nowadays. Sound like some shit Tupac would do with Spice 1 in California on a beach somewhere early in the morning. But Jay Electronica put himself back, for one he should’ve not sign with Jay-Z or Puffy. Erykah Badu had a label and she signed him, what happened to the label? Maybe it didn’t take off like it was suppose to be. Jay should’ve just kept on making music independently, if Badu and Just Blaze spread the word about him? That should be enough for the right people to be checking for him. Jay-Z and Puffy were not the right people. Jay should’ve focused more on the music that’s all I can say 💯…But “Renaissance Man” is in my top 10 songs I like from him along with a few others! He did that J Dilla beat justice. Common use the same beat for his song “Love Is..” but for me I feel Jay Electronica did it better. He just emcee while Common was just making a song which was decent. At least Jay Electronica made two albums despite if Act II wasn’t polished. The fact it wasn’t polished made the album alittle more better and I like some of the songs on there. I feel it’s alittle better than “A Written Testimony” cause Jay-Z wasn’t on all the songs. It was basically his project with features 💯!

@ 34:40. It's funny that you mentioned all those artists. This is something that I have spoken on before with my friends in the business. It speaks to what I refer to as colorism in Hip-Hop. The 2 artists you mentioned, Kendrick and Cole, whose lane is similar to Jay Elect are fair to light-skinned artists. From an image standpoint that makes them commercially attractive enough to sell music for that lane. Artists like Ross, Meek, Gucci Mane, Pusha T and Boosie have been very successful in their lanes, but look at them...all dark-skinned artists. Which makes them believable in that lane of street, drug, hood rap. Jay is not the only artist that suffers from this. Wale and Big Krit, while somewhat successful, have yet to see that high level of success in the positive lane because of colorism. So by that token, if Jay Elect was making music in that hood lane, he could have EASILY put out an album and been at the top, just because of his lyrical skillset.

Why didn't you mention the song jay electronica did with Diddy, titled the ghost of Christopher Wallace, which I believe is instrumental to the response of Diddy expressing betrayal after them working on that song leading Diddy to believe that he (jay electronica) would sign to bad boy?

Jay Electronica is in my opinion the Greatest Period. He puts more into one single offering than many do in their entire careers. I believe he has made some of the greatest works of music period across any Genre ever. Act 1 alone is a Masterpiece. A MASTERPIECE. If that was all he ever did he should be respected as one of the Greatest of all time. The depth and quality of thought and consideration. It’s transcendent. It’s otherworldly. And parabolic. Then You have (Exhibit A) again as good if not better than any rap song ever. “You can find the Christ where the lepers and the lames at Life is like a dice game: One roll could land you in jail or cutting cake, blowing kisses in the rice rain Nice whip, nice chain, a closet of skulls The stench is like slave blood at Providence Hall” Then you Have (Exhibit C) Arguably the greatest rap song EVER! If you had to choose one song to give the Aliens to exhibit the skill and beauty and wizardry of the MC and Rap Music and Word smithery, I mean… not to mention the story in the words. The depth and vulnerability the imagery so profound it’s like watching a film. Then something you almost never hear in Rap a song so beautiful it should be preserved for eternity, as if it was written by an Angel. (Better in Tune With the Infinite) this song alone brought me out of one of my deepest depressions of my life it was medicine for the soul. It’s therapeutic. It’s ancient Wisdom. It’s beyond words. Just listen to it, then listen again. He put words to everything inside of me that I was never able to put words to as a broken flawed sinful creature that’s trying to do his best. He is concerned with Truth, Beauty and Goodness. Realness of life. Light and Dark. Striving and Stumbling towards righteousness. From floating in the Dead Sea or better yet touching the Sphinx, standing on Mount Everest, praying with the Monks in India or traveling illegally into Mexico, all manifested not because of what he could pay or because of who he is but because he was seeking the answer to the most critical question that has been asked for centuries by Alchemist, Artist, Magi, Sages and Wizards “ What is truth?” The answer he found “ The truth is the best of what is in me, the best in us all”. His Goal in life “all he ever wanted was to uplift the condition of humanity “ The you have A.P.I.D.T.A. This is to me in my opinion the most beautiful song ever made in music across any genre in the universe. This song is TRUTH, BEAUTY, UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, SUFFERING, DEATH, LIFE…embodied. This song came from the heavens if heaven exists. It was blessed by the angels. And Jay some how Channeled it through. These are Just a few songs. Not even half an album!!! Not to mention he has the best features with all of your favorite artists and out raps all of them every time. Did you hear his verse on Jesus Lord? Have you ever heard anything like that ever? It’s beyond good it’s beyond great. He is a Jedi a Samurai a Prophet. His features alone would make up a couple albums. And by the way for everyone who keeps saying Jay-z should not have been the first person you hear on a Written Testimony and that Jay-Z out-rapped Jay-Electronica? Did you not listen to his words?… And who wouldn’t be honored to have Jay-Z rap first on their debut album. Jay-Z doesn’t make music with anyone hardly. I believe Jay-Electronica was honoring HOV for paving the way for being a mentor for being Jay E is a humble dude and loves Jay Z and respects him that’s his brother and OG. Who else in the world could get Jay-Z my 2nd favorite rapper of all time to get on their debut album?…Nobody! so no it’s not weak to have Jay Z on his Debut no jay E did not get out rapped no he is not scared no to all of it. Jay Electronica is wise. I think it’s the dopest thing ever that Jay Electronica’s debut album was a joint project with the GOAT of Hip Hop Jay Z. You could not pay Jay Z a billion dollars to do a joint album with you anyone. What they did was priceless and the fact that Jay Z did that was a gift and shows the world how much he thinks of Jay Electronica, because you can’t buy Jay-Z. If anything Jay Electronica made Jay-Z rap more introspectively. So you all should be thanking Jay Electronica for raising the Bar for depth and meaning in Jay Z’s lyrics. What happened here is nothing short of a miracle. And if Jay Electronica was not truly the GOAT. Jay-Z would have never done this with him. Real recognize real. And these 2 are the realest. We should just say thank you for such a beautiful offering. And no Kendrick Lamar’s control verse was not better than Jay Electronica’s not even close. Have any of you ever heard the extended version of Jay Electronica’s verse. Just the first sentence is better than Kendrick’s entire song. And I love Kendrick but let’s be real. If you truly listen to what Jay is saying there’s no comparison. “Entirely off the record The messiahs of society quietly walk with lepers” I don’t know if god exists but I feel closer to the divine when I listen to Jay’s words and am eternally grateful to this Man. He is so much more than a rapper just like Muhammad Ali was so much more than a boxer. “His Train is always on Schedule” and we should all be grateful that he cares so much about his craft and truth that he follows his soul and heart and not money or power or frivolous things and that’s why when we do get music it is otherworldly and deeply meaningful because he is grounded in TRUTH. “While you was blowin' X amount of dollars on a bracelet The sovereign nation of France was openin' they files on the UFO phenomenon: i.e. spaceships It's just the facts, Jack may as well face it Every rhyme I write the seal get cracked in the chapter of Revelations A atom get cracked in the blackness of meditation Mysterious shit Call me Jay Dogon, I'm on some serious shit Scholars wonder why don't he bust Allah blessed me with a Midas-y touch Everything I lay to hands turn to Ethiopian gold: shiny and buffed I got a firm understandin' on the minus and plus So I ain't got time to argue with a rapper 'bout how he ain't got rhymes That's fuckin' with mine's I'm trying to kill Lucifer, so if I have to brake Cause a rapper in my face tellin' me that he the great You can bet a shiny nickel I'll blast his motherfuckin' ass way past Jupiter You couldn't be stupider Fuckin' with the nuclear Mayan, Aztec lion Asiatic Blackman from Zion Quetzalcoatl supreme, lettin' off steam Dimethyltriptamine make a man dream But y'all would much rather hear me rappin' 'bout trash The size of Erykah's ass, blunts and cash We need savin' Minds are consumed with swine we need bathin“ The music is there you just have to look and listen. And it’s incredible. Memories and Merlot Swagger Jackson’s Revenge Run and Hide Fat Belly Bella Ruff Sketches Real Magic Dear Moleskin The Ghost of Christopher Wallace My World (Nas salute) The Season (FT. Nas) Just to name a few all 10 out of 10 absolute works of art and the list continues Peace

I could not have said it any better even if i was paid to. His music touches souls. Dear moleskin touched me in ways i could not explain (im like a sleep walking robot thats out of gear…). He talked about things i could never have articulated on my own…it almost brought me to tears. You can sense the purity, sincerity and conviction in his words…he was so detached from the things that drive most artists…a pure gift to the genre… Again…your comment expresses exactly what i would want to say to anyone if asked why i rate jay electronica so highly… His talent is beyond measure.
