You may have noticed in movies and tv shows that when a bomb falls through the sky, it makes a whistling sound. This has to do with the fighter planes and bomber planes of world war 2. During the second world war, German air force equipped their bombs with special whistles to demoralize their enemy and strike fear into the hearts of the people on the ground. The strange sound of the whistle can also be attributed to the Doppler effect. In addition to the whistling bombs, Germans also had a special equipment called Jericho’s trumpet installed above the landing gear of their Junkers Ju 87 bomber planes (also called Stuka dive bombers).
