Drake is the biggest artist but he hates that Kendrick gets more respect than he does. Drake went pop for a bigger bag and Kendrick was able to get more and more conscious besides Damn and is still in the top 3 convo. End of the day both made their mark and Drakes music will be played for years and years because it’s simple and easy to understand. Kendrick’s bars are Pulitzer Prize winning and studied in colleges. The way I see it is that Drake is way more tied into powerful people that get his music out further into the world which of course results in more streams and sales. Statistically, Drake is more popular, and has songs I enjoy, but he has long chosen his path with the dark side of the industry and is even envious of Kendrick's genius and freedom. Lyrically, its no question that Kendrick has Drake beat. Simply by the fact that Drake doesn't write all of his lyrics, regardless of excuses, means that he is ineligible for the position of best rapper of our generation. By the fact that Kendrick writes for many other rappers (including Jay Rock and baby keem) puts him above and beyond, lifting up others with his gift. But that's just what I think.

@MANDINGOBBCthat's stupid and I'm a bigger Drake fan because I'm a pop fan and not American hip-hop. Drake is a rapper who went the pop lane and became a Popstar, he says so all the time and it's why we love him. Because he's a Popstar rapper whom we love his music. Kendrick is a straight up rapper and does complex socially important issues and he's massively successful and critically acclaimed with more awards and acclaim. Kendrick is more of a Jay-Z rap legacy than a Kanye West Popstar rapper producer type. Both great in their ways, public accepts them so they're successful for it. 🤷♂️❤🔥

Honestly if you think about it, kendrick doesn't have the vocabulary of an aesop rock, a busdriver or an MF DOOM, but what makes kendrick amazing is his capacity for making deeply meaningful, narrative and personal albums using more accessible production and lyrical styles. As for drake, he is the rapper that wanted to be respected in the culture, he couldn't and decided to make hits. Honestly, I think that people like drake is rather important anyways, because is one of those artists that make people interested in their respective musical genres, like for example a person that likes imagine dragons (very popular but very hated band between rock enthusiasts) and then get into radiohead (one of the most beloved and respected rock bands of all time) (there are infinite examples of this)

@@romaretaylor9953 Lol Of course they are “cool” in the sense that it’s strictly rap competition but if you think they aren’t lyrically sparring constantly then your completely out the loop. Competition isn’t synonymous with beef contrary to popular belief. Their tension is rooted in their positions in rap not anything else. That’s one. Two, I clearly mentioned that a video released of Pusha t and Kendrick in the studio that was recorded prior to Pusha announcing and releasing the album and the verse that drake did released right before both Kendrick and Pusha announced their albums which happened simultaneously after one another. So the line about two people who he has competitive and or beef with linking up would have connection to Kendrick if drake happened to see that video and hear behind the scenes they had plans of working together. Then in other aspect I brought up Kendrick’s family ties lines and showed the direct parallel connections between the two. So I mean it’s ok for you to say you didnt see the connections of the lines but to completely write off their lyrical back and forth your definitely clueless to a lot of rap politics and back and forths lol.

"bite their tongues in rap lyrics scared to be crucified about a song but they won't admit it politically correct is how you keep an opinion niggas is tight lipped fck who dare to be different " I truly believe this line is about Drake. I remember at my old job this Hispanic kid said Drake was the best because he didn't rile people up , he kept everything "fun" for everyone . and I realized Drake doesn't talk about social issues , especially those pertaining to black people and in turn he's the biggest artist . but we don't expect white people and other races to believe Kendrick is the GOAT because he's speaking to US not y'all ..

Great summation of this back and forth. Something not mentioned here is the part in Family Ties right at the end where Kendrick says 'Smoking on top 5's, stop playing I'm that guy. Number 2 DM'ing my bitch. That's cool I don't ask why'. He was going back and forth with Keem so these bars were shared - but it definitely suggests Drake (Number 2 behind Kendrick's 1) was trying to contact some lady friend of Kendrick's. Whether that was his wife Whitney or just someone he had been with. This is right in line with Drake's storied MO of somehow involving competitors girlfriends/wives into these rap beefs - or just being messy with women in general. Just like he did with Pusha T mentioning his then fiancee Virginia. Also, when Kendrick said 'Yeah Kanye changed his life but me I'm still an old school Gemini' (along with a harsh 'lil bitch' ad lib in the background) this to me is a clear subliminal saying, yeah you and Kanye may have peace'd it up, but I'm still that guy from back then, and this beef will live on. AND - most recently on the Mr Morale track Father Time - on explaining how we was raised to be ultra competitive and not accept failure by his Father, he says: ''Daddy issues kept me competitive, that's a fact nigga, I don't give a fuck what's the narrative, I am that nigga. When Kanye got back with Drake, I was slightly confused, guess I'm not mature as I think, got some healing to do." Again this gives context as to why Kendrick is so fiercely competitive, that he still thinks he is that guy, and that to this day, he still has a deep unwavering rivalry with Drake, even while knowing it might be unhealthy, and that ultimately he needs to heal from some previous trauma in their relationship, or escape from his instinctive hardwiring that compels him to seek out and destroy his competition, by any and all means. Masterful. Pulitzer prize winning. Yeah, he really is THAT guy.

I think Drake accepted Kendrick's Challenge from "Control" to re-vamp competitive rap throughout their careers, and that's exactly what happened. Kendrick asked, and Drake followed through.

Coming from a black guy myself and know the types around you... Drake is on that light skin sh*t. He does not want to do a full blown diss track nor does he want one from Kendrick. Simple as that. Kendrick material is more real than Drake while Drake material is more commercial friendly for corporations. He knows people will take Kendrick's side AUTOMATICALLY because of how much impact he made in the industry in a moral way. Kendrick won a Pulitzer Prize for Damn album. That wasn't just a win for him but a win for African American Community. It shows how much of a real person he is and how much he exposes his real character in the best way possible. Drake comes off as a two faced kid from high school and plays off confrontation as if nothing happened. I love Drake but he can't win a majority of the industry that easily. At the end of the day he's a guy from Canada not a guy from Compton, Detriot, Chicago, or even Atlanta. I respect how hard he tried to get in the world of rap but certain things he can and he can't have. Some respect from people don't come as naturally as you think it would.

From what I get and understand about this is that Drake discovered Kendrick’s music and wanted to work and thought he was dope.
