That was absolutely brilliant, everything i've thought about consciousness just got taken to a WHOLE new other level. Incredible some of these thoughts were brought up over 100 and two hundred years ago and by Yogi's, who've had it right for a millenium and we're just catching up, incredible! Thank you :)

I don't know that thought IS 'ego' but certainly what I am is conscious (not "consciousness" because 'ness' implies attribute). Conscious IS what I AM. Thus when I am not conscious I am not. Here we get a clue as to why the word 'conscious' is bereft of a definition. The word 'conscious' is a mere decoration of language in the way 'eh' was when I was young. "Know what I mean, eh"?

Wow! What a most appropriate way to end this fascinating talk: By quoting the Indian mystic, Nisargadatta. “The world you perceive is made of consciousness. What you call matter is consciousness itself.” What Sri Ramana Maharshi, and Meherbaba, and Nisargadatta, and Swami Vivekananda have said are not their original ideas or thoughts. All of them have only quoted from the Upanishads found in the Vedas, the scriptures that the Hindus consider holy or sacred. And what you find in the Upanishads is the truth revealed to the Hindu Sages at least three thousand years ago as they meditated. According to these Upanishads, mind is also matter, but composed of “subtle matter” ; and matter has consciousness also, the difference is only in the degree of awareness. Yes, “Matter as we know it exists only in the mind.” How true! Science is only beginning to understand and catch up with what was known to the ancient rishis of India thousands of years ago. the solution ~ change yourself: Picture a child you love very much at the age of 2 years old. Imagine this child before you and focus on the feelings of love you have for this child. Focus on your love for the child until it has expanded so much that you are smiling and feeling joy. After you have maintained this feeling for a few minutes, move this child to the side and place in front of you ~ yourself at the age of 2. Picture yourself now at the age of 2 and keep focusing on the feelings you built up for the first child ~ is not the second child as precious as the first? You are now loving yourself ~ stay with the feeling and expand it further ~ open your heart. Now that you know how to get into a feeling of love for yourself, you can change your age to focus on areas that may be more difficult for you to love yourself. Do this exercise daily and loving yourself will be become your natural response to yourself

Brahman is where our pure consciousness exist, the consciousness of our true selves, the full awakning. How I know this? How can I prove it? First, I know it by my own experience, and secondly; I can't prove it for anyone, this is something every each person has to discover by them selves. But with correct guidens everyone can experience it. A fast guide to achieve it: You have to sit down and meditate, focus on a middle point between your eyebrows. You have to collect all the awareness on this point. The point is that you should only be conscious about this point. By breathing correctly you will lose yourself more and more into this point, the breathing makes you be more conscious about this point. In this way you will stop being conscious about all the 5 senses, your inner world like, picture, feelings, your inner dialog. When you have disconnected yourself from all these things, you suddenly falling down with your consciousness into your heart region. So in this stage you are only conscious of your existens with out thoughts feelings and all other stuff, the only thing you are experience is total emptiness, darkness, you are just a constant conscious ARE... But, there is an equalent for this stage where you can experience fullness, brightntess, and you will experience that by your souls desire to move backwards, like that you have a body inside another body that wants to move out by pushing you out from the body backward. This is something you have to figure out by yourselv when you are in this stage. Now I said your consciousness fell down into the heart region, so when you are seperating yourself backward you will escape your self through your heart, while doing so you will experience light, the more you seperate from your body, the more light you will experience, the universe feels like it shrinks, and you will feel like you're getting bigger, until you feel like the universe has a size of a sand corn and you are a gaient made of pure spiritual, conscious light. The feeling by seperating is like you vibrating out from the universe, it feels like you're going through trillions of trillions of small vibrating unseen particles and at the same time you are melting into like a big sun and you also become the sun at the end, and there or no vibrations anylonger, only pure spiritual light. In this stage you won't feel if you're big or small cause you left the universe, you don't have anything to relate with, you are only one with the light, and there are no past or future, only now, only a constant now that is constatnly refreshing itself. This spiritual light is amazing, you got the most happy feeling, your consciousness is like you know everything, knowing unlimited things at same time. It's hard to tell, because our brain can't imagin this state, you have to go through this process to experience by yourself. I have much to say about it. I felt like I became God, because of this unlimited knowledge, this absolute awakeness, total happiness, eternity, ect. The only thing you can't do is to do something, you can only BE... nothing more, only to BE and experience all these wonderful things that is going on at same time in the present of NOW. As soon your soul, or self wanna do something you will be throwen out from this Super Conscious State into this material universe. That what happen to me when I desired to do something. In this Brahman light there is no place for doings, doings is for material world. So when you feel to do something you will be throwen out in an eye blink, it feels like you are jumping into a sea of mud, from being in a water of pure water you are thrown back into a water of dirty mud, you are going through this trillions dense of vibration until you are back into the dark quietness of your body, and from there you have to desire to raise your consciousness up to your brain to shut on the machinery so you can start with your inner dialoge, to access your memories and stuff like that: I just wanted to tell :) Do it and you will experience the exactly the same thing. It can take time, but if you practice and are very determint to achieve this, you'll get it. The way is easy to understand, but to do it can be tricky, the brain doesn't want you to stop thinking and trying to capture your attention on various things, just focus on the point in the middle of your eyes, when you have nearly all conscious collected to thins point you will have to power of your brain, you will be the commander, if you wanna shut down all the processes in your brain like stop talking to yourselv you will be doing that in a second. Just a tip. Wish the scientist could go through this process too, this will be a intressting peace to include in there equations. Happy journey.

A lot of grammer mistakes and spellings. I just wrote this down as fast as I could without going through the text. English is not my mother language. But atleast I tried to explain the process of becoming one with Brahman. Now you can call Brahman what ever, because there is no name in Brahman. I would call the material world to have a low quality energy, and brahman a high quality energy. Some may wanna describe it as material energy and spiritual energy, but anyways... all these are all about energies, what ever the name you give it.

materialists scientists often refer to consciousness as the hard problem. but you know what, it's only a hard problem if you hold to the belief in materialism, which is just that, a belief. there's simply no way to prove that all that exists is matter and the re-arrangements of it and that there's nothing beyond that. so these scientists are as religious as religious people. their epistemological foundation is completely made up of unprovable beliefs.

When someome says it’s all just matter, what are they saying really? What do they mean by ‘matter’, exactly? Sometimes you’ll get an answer to that in terms of protons and quarks and stuff, but that’s essentially just defining things in terms of other undefined things. All those concepts like matter and electrons and quarks are very useful in the sense that they quite well model how reality appears to behave, and predict what we’re likely to experience in what circumstances. But by no means whatsoever does it explain WHAT IT IS. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

"The sole purpose of creation is for the soul to enjoy the infinite state of the Oversoul consciously. Although the soul eternally exists in and with the Oversoul in an inviolable unity, it cannot be conscious of this unity independently of creation, which is within the limitations of time. It must therefore evolve consciousness before it can realize its true status and nature as being identical with the infinite Oversoul, which is one without a second. The evolution of consciousness requires the duality of subject and object - the center of consciousness and the environment (that is, the world of forms)." ...... "How does the soul get caught up in Illusion? How did the formless, infinite, and eternal Soul come to experience itself as having form and as being finite and destructible? How did Purusha, or the supreme Spirit, come to think of itself as prakriti, or the world of nature? In other words, what is the cause of the cosmic Illusion in which the individualized soul finds itself? To realize the true status of the Oversoul - which is one, indivisible, real, and infinite - the soul needs consciousness. The soul does get consciousness; however this consciousness is not of God but of the universe, not of the Oversoul but of its shadow, not of the One but of many, not of the Infinite but of the finite, not of the Eternal but of the transitory. Thus the soul, instead of realizing the Oversoul, gets involved in cosmic Illusion; and hence, though really infinite, it comes to experience itself as finite. In other words, when the soul develops consciousness, it does not become conscious of its own true nature but of the phenomenal world, which is its own shadow." Meher Baba

In answer to the question at the end as to how can we prove consciousness, I remember a lecture on Vedanta on the seer and the seen...The eyes see the book and the eyes are the seer, the mind knows what the eyes see and the mind is the knower, our conscious/awareness experiences the mind so consciousness is the seer and the mind is the seen. when it gets to consciousness they are strategically silent about being able to observe consciousness. Not that it is unknowable but that it is more than known, form Swami Vivekananda," The self is never an object of knowledge". This consciousness is the self.

Universal conciousness permeates everything and individual counciuosness is just a part of the bigger one. Individual conciousness is a parallel on, happening there where the attention is. For example: Just because you can see a tree on the other side of the planet it does not mean it does not exist, but in fact it does exist because of its own part in the Universal conciousness. Its like a constant interconection of manifestation through this massive and no measurable consciousness that comprehends the all...At least, not measurable from a smaller portion of conciuosness.

Egocentricity, too many thoughts create confusion and counteract cosciousness. We are spirit having a human experience, until we allow self awareness and understand what drives us subconsciously we can only limit ourselves to what we think we are. Yes, it is what it is and acheiving stillness to be present in the now is the only way to original thought and authentic self. Expand consciousness by allowing yourself to experience outside whatever perception you have from your belief system. Connect with each other and create awareness through the knowing of instinct as spirit not human. This is how we understand the reason why we are here, doing what we are doing as flesh and blood, pain and pleasure. When we free ourselves from the restaint of ideas that limit us to thinking that is all we are, we have expanded consciousness. Acheiving true joy and only then having the awareness to understand. We are made of the same stuff as the universe, the patterns are there to see clearly. We are working parts of something bigger just as the bacteria inside our bodies are necessary for our funnctionality. Consciousness is being aware that we are all the same, hate and negativity cannot exist when we understand this. Be in love energy and it's easy to know what our journey means. 💖

high quality and high volume data transfer, self shaping through some mechanism, in us repetition of similar data transfers, sensory inputs of some kind, and a set of flexible inbuilt goals. Hard problem How does something that is consciousness comes from unconscious place? *Ans* Current works as our extended consciousness like write a program and you know the current flowing through the circuit will produce an output even if no one is looking. Think that *we* are inside computer and the person outside build a program(*we*) in which he gave the program to choose what it wants to do by its own senses and whatever the program does is getting saved in hard drive which can be called the collective universal consciousness. So *current=consciousness*, Consciousness is the person outside the computer who is running the program and current is his extended consciousness. But we as are inside the computer frame can never say what a current looks like or anything about it and hence we get to *NOTHING* since its not from our frame. So the world we see is just the current(consciousness) flowing through, yes through car(non being obj) and animal(being obj) and thats why when we are alive we are being and *experiencing this consciousness through our unconscious brain* and when we die we switch state from being to non being but in both cases current(consciousness) is flowing. *Current is used just for understanding it can be any form of energy but one thing is clear we are being watched* I hope this explains the hard problem but when you think that the questions end after this, it is infact the beginning of the questions...

35:35 Question " It's an interesting idea but how can I determine if it's true or not." By applying the the scientific method. Start with the conjecture (hypothesis), derive predictions as logical consequences, and then carry out experiments or empirical observations based on those predictions. To do so one needs to first thoroughly wrap ones brain around the hypothesis that consciousness is primary and then make some predictions that follow from that and could be tested.

The nature of reality isn't about atoms or pieces of the whole it's about the entire whole. The fact that we can't even see the pieces reinforces the idea of looking for answers by looking at the whole.

Sam Osborne Right - but of course we must define "real," and before that, we need to define "I" - else we're potentially talking at cross-purposes (as most of us are). Reminds me of scientists labeling 90% of DNA as "junk" - ultimately because they just couldn't figure it out - what it does, how it works. In their own way, they thus labeled it, practically speaking, as unreal - unworthy of further attention. It's all very funny, ultimately. Seems to me that Source must have the best sense of humor of all. Nanci Danison, after her NDE (near-death experience), came back with the realization that our 3D realm is basically backwards - taking the opposite to what we currently believe turns out closer to truth. Things like Murphy's Law jokingly point this out. At some point we've just got to laugh. My hope is that we can all come to take self & simply everything so much lighter. We take ourselves & our ideas far too seriously. They're nothing over which to get upset - better things to just enjoy & explore. Life is meant to enjoy - at least that's the purpose I've adopted. Sorry, LOL, to get so carried away replying to your one-liner. Found it quite inspirational :-D

Sam Osborne It's a matter of semantics. In this context, he uses the word 'real' as pertaining to what is 'matter.' I think it was Bohr who said the things we consider real are made up of things we would consider unreal. Of course, the fundamental quantum reality of supposed 'particles' is that they're supposed to be nothing but mathematical probabilities. How can you say that the concept of a number is anything like matter?

+Jerry DeCaire To attempt to give one example of how the concept of a number is anything like matter. Grapheme → color synesthesia. The "individual's perception of numbers and letters is associated with the experience of colors. Like all forms of synesthesia, grapheme -> color synesthesia is involuntary, consistent, and memorable" - Grossenbacher, P. G., Lovelace, C. T. (2001). McLovinYaMam What is "NOW"? Is now the reaction of the observable? My consciousness or the part of me that is in now ,is always that fragment ahead of my "realtime" experience. This I think is the purpose of existence , to work this out ,certainly we all feel it. It is at the cusp of all beliefs, What is it? A universal reaction taking place in the initial moment of momentum? A virtual program? A moment cannot be measured, yet it can be anticipated. I don't even pretend to know the answer to this , as it is just ahead of what I think is the real me , like the dragon eating it's own tail , it cannot consume itself entirely.

How did we evolve without consciousness if it's fundamental as no one was conscious to begin with? These and many other common sense questions can be asked if your brain isn't too fucked up from hallucinogens from your spirit quest in your younger years.

What is “consciousness?” I think awareness is the realization that one is experiencing something, and that “realization” is the essence of consciousness. I feel it is our consciousness that delineates time/space/matter and presents it to us in a way which makes it feel like reality. The way our minds represent and present this information to us creates an appearance of what we perceive as the physical world around us. But is it accurate? Someone once said that time merely keeps everything from happening all at once. I feel it is our “limited” or perhaps “specialized” perceptions which give rise to our linear view of time. Could it be that all events both past, present and future have already happened and that we are just observing them from a specific position within the entirety of all existence? The Bible states we were made in the “image” of God. Could this actually mean we are simply part of a universal consciousness which permeates all things of which God is part? Are we like God in that our minds have the ability to observe, quantify, and loosely understand how our physical and spiritual worlds are connected? Are our experiences simply perturbations of consciousness which have been given to us? Will we eventually develop an expanded consciousness and one day awaken with even greater understanding? I hope so.

Isn't it funny how so much has been done to hide from view the only thing we are certain of? I mean, I will never be sure if the sofa I am lying on really exists, but I'm sure of my sharing pf consciousness. Yet, if you listen to what most people would think, you would find that so many would swear on the existence of the sofa and be uncertain about the existence of consciousness... What a weird world we live in!

Interesting - I think the speaker just verbalized the panpsychism argument a bit better than I've heard done before - he motivated quite well how you just can't draw that line. But I still just can't quite by into the idea. I don't know if I'll get this point across well, but it somehow it feels like that panpsychism requires us to solve the problem twice. That is, the laws of physics have to cause all the itty bits to go together in a way that makes the physical world, and simultaneously with that those same fundamental entities have to combine "one bit consciousness" in just the right way to make complex minds. If the "laws of physics" and the "laws of consciousness" are that similar, then I would lean heavily toward there only being one thing from the jump. Based on that, I think idealism is a better answer. Consciousness is fundamental. Maybe it starts simple and builds up, or maybe different complexity conscious entities just exist to start with. But that's all there is at the fundamental level. The physical world then is a manifestation of the interactions of conscious beings. It feels simpler to me.

The perplexing thing to me is this. If matter is consciousness taking form, then each atom in my brain is conscious. Why is it that when I open my eyes I am conscious of a WHOLE wide picture - a whole group of conscious atoms (retina, nerves, brain etc) working together to display a whole image to this 'consciousness' that simultaneously is aware of multiple atoms (and yet not those outside of my body), rather than each individual atom being conscious of receiving a single photon etc. Presumably consciousness is existing in multiple viewpoints/levels everywhere in my body, so my thumb is also conscious. The puzzling thing is that all these individual cells and atoms each conscious in themselves all somehow feed into a meta consciousness that watches and feels the whole 'picture' of what is going on in the brain and receiving multiple inputs from each separate receptor and transmitter. How do multiple conscious manifestations also join together to form a 'traveling' conscious manifestation that enjoys awareness from multiple places (body parts, cells etc) all at once?

There is a green, since we simply give a word to a physical frequency. It’s not important what we call it, or if others see the same “hue” for that same frequency. One can show predictable interactions with the green frequency, and it will behave the same way each time. Thus, our experience of the frequency is neither important, nor a denial of its existence. Also, any duality of wave and particle is not consciousness or experience, but simply the outcome for the particular interaction that occurs in the type of measurement done.

In the Lankavatara Sutra Buddha makes the basic point that no matter what ideas you have, no matter how you may view 'reality' - you are wrong. If you use words and ideas then you will lose the very thing you are trying to find. Only by going 'beyond' ALL concepts and ideas does one awaken from conventional reality to the absolute reality or True Nature (but of course even this idea is wrong since words and ideas are being used!).

What remains of being, absent ideas? Nothing. In our beginnings, nothing is exiled. In our endings, nothing returns. We don't say "to become asleep", the oxymoron is too obvious. Nothing is the ocean out of which we leap, porpoise like, for a moment. Nothing is the canvas on which contrast paints being. There is no need to seek enlightenment. It will find one, in the end. Cheers!

"Does the harmony which human intelligence thinks it discovers in Nature exist apart from such intelligence? Assuredly no. A reality completely independent of the spirit that conceives it, sees it or feels it, is an impossibility. A world so external as that, even if it existed, would be for ever inaccessible to us. What we call "objective reality" is, strictly speaking, that which is common to several thinking beings and might be common to all; this common part, we shall see, can only be the harmony expressed by mathematical laws." - Poincare' The Value of Science

conciousness plays not a role in quantum measurements... the term "oberserve" in this context simply means measured which means the quantum has interacted. Any interaction of the quantum lets it manifest and the wave function collaps. Thats why the "world is there" even without a concious observer, quants are interacting all the time, for example with other quants of oxigen atoms in our atmosphere. Also the double-slit experiment and quantum-eraser-experiment can be conducted by automated measurements and data-storage by computers with the same results. No conscious observer necessary

In the Pottapada sutta of the Digha nikaya the Buddha expounds on 14 unanswerable/undetermined metaphysical issues. When asked why these remain undetermined by him, he answers: “Because, Potthapada, this is not connected to a purpose, nor is it connected to virtue, nor is it connected with the life of purity, nor does it lead to humility, nor to dispassion, nor to cessation, nor to tranquility, nor to superior understanding, nor to supreme awakening, nor to nirvana. Therefore, I have not determined.” “What then, venerable sir, has the Lord determined?” “I have determined that this is discontent, this is the cause of discontent, this is the cessation of discontent, and this is the path leading to the cessation of discontent.” (DN ix.28)

Love the comments here. People sure do get worked up over consciousness. "Woowoo Science" is my favorite term. We so lack the words to discuss these experiences, language devolves into childish terms. Lets begin with Dr. Greyson's talk "Is Consciousness Produced by the Brain?" (on youtube) He cites medical cases where the brain was not functioning, could not function and yet people see, hear and remember experiences they shouldn't have. People with severe alzheimers who suddenly regain all their consciousness and memories moments, hours, or days prior to death - but autopsies show their brains should not have been able to do so. As if the "filters" that prevent us from accessing this information have been shut down. Thousands of cases of people having near death experiences with the same hallmarks - some who were blind since birth, and yet accurately described colors they saw in the operating room. (Sam Parnia's "The Awareness Project") So let's begin there. Consciousness in not, cannot only be produced by the brain. Then follow the accounts of people who claim consistently that they've visited other "realms" that they describe as "home" or "where we all return after death." (I've filmed 26 sessions of people doing so, I chose subjects for their skepticism, backgrounds in science, and the results have been consistent throughout). I offer transcripts from these sessions and cite a number of scientists in "It's a Wonderful Afterlife". Near death experiencers, people under deep hypnosis, people in comas, some out of body experiencers report the same basic hallmarks of this "realm that's not here" where they claim to have conscious memories, not only of past lives, but a life and journey between lives. It's not philosophy or belief - or woowoo science - it's just reporting what thousands have said consistently. It's only data. We shouldn't dislike or fear data - but examine it to see how we can apply it to the world in front of us. If its true what these people are consistently saying about consciousness, then we do choose to come to this planet, we choose our parents, and our fields of endeavor for specifice reasons. And if that's true, then doesn't it make sense to leave behind a planet that has fresh air, water and land? But don't take my word for it, examine the reports for yourself. ("Flipside" or "Its a Wonderful Afterlife" talks available on youtube at MartiniProds).
