Winter is approaching and you need to be prepared for cold days. Warm clothes are needed not only for work, but also for home. A vest will help keep you warm on days like these. It’s good when the vest is made from natural warm fabrics: wool, sheepskin. You definitely won't freeze in this.
My husband was recently brought a fishing jacket from the village, something like an overcoat, only short, completely new. The fabric is thick wool or cloth, I don’t know exactly what it’s called. But he has a warm jumpsuit, so I took it for myself to sew a vest, I’ve been wanting one for myself for a long time.
Once I was in the hospital, and the doctor, an old professor, said, if something hurts or aches, tie the sore spot with a woolen cloth, like a scarf. Indeed, I have always done this! And it really helps, you warm up and the pain goes away. This is especially helpful after surgery.
1) First, I ripped open all the seams, tore off the buttons, and outlined my old vest. I made a dart in the chest area, as the fabric was puffy.
The idea is this: the vest will be sewn entirely by hand and trimmed with wool yarn.
2) To visually soften the rough fabric, I added knitting.
3) I cut the shelves and back, below the waist, to make inserts there.
This will be a crocheted granny square. You can find a huge variety of diagrams and drawings on the Internet. I have the simplest of the 3 double crochets.
4) Each detail of the vest was trimmed on all sides using a hand overlock stitch. I cut out two pockets. I thought it would take a lot of time, but I did everything quickly enough.
5) I laid out all the sewn pieces and figured out how many granny squares I needed to knit. It took 11 pieces.
6) When I had done all this, I sewed the loops together, catching each stitch with thread.
7) I sewed the squares together first into one strip, then inserted them into the vest.
8) At the end I sewed on the pockets.
The vest turned out to be warm and does not look rough at all; on the contrary, thanks to hand sewing and openwork knitting, it is soft and feminine.
