A lot of the so called "hatred" is likely due to (1) having been force fed these fables (as I see them) and (2) the psycological damage done by believing them. This I know is true of many and it's precisely my experience. This man (WLC) is still telling these stories as if they were a true historical record and not fables. This shocks me. I was indoctrinated as a child but I figured out years ago that it was a fantasy. The emotional reaction could be described as "hate" but if it is hate, it's hatred if the deception and the years lost living a kind of a dream devoid of reality.

The gospels we have today are only four of many hundreds that were written. When Rome accepted Christianity the gospels were culled. What remained was what favoured Rome, or had already been so widely distributed Rome could not exclude entirely. Some of the destroyed gospels may well have been written much earlier than the existing ones. Certainly nineteenth century linguists and historians, using early Hebrew and Greek translations of the existing gospels, proved that two gospels were written from the same earlier text, which probably no longer existed.

Yawn! This is a tired and misguided approach to the gospel. It is utterly imperative that it is true or not. The gospel is not about being a good person, that is a superficial reading and understanding of the new testament! It is about being a dead person! The old man of sin must be buried with Christ. All must die and be consumed by the fire, the holy ghost. From that comes true goodness. You being a good person in your own power is almost irrelevant to the good news!

Here's a question for Dr Lang. When was Jesus born? Was it (a) during the reign of Herod the Great (so, some time between 37 and 4 BCE); or (b) in 6 CE during the census of Cyrenius? Because, if the two Gospels that actually have the Nativity in them can't even agree on that simple detail (and there's at least a decade between the two dates), then how can they be relied on for anything else pertaining to being an accurate biography of Jesus?

“Invented a narrative” suggests they are making things up out of thin air. Thats a different genre called fiction (although the truth may reside in fiction as well) The ancient historical biographical genre does not mean it is not true or reflecting truth or real events - in fact even secular scholars agree that these genres are important and informative sources of historical information that help us piece together ancient events. Non biblical texts in this genre scholars use to piece together what we know of ancient history: 1. Plutarch’s “Parallel Lives” 2. Suetonius’ “The Twelve Caesars” 3. Arrian’s “Anabasis of Alexander” 4. Xenophon’s “Cyropaedia” 5. Tacitus’ “Agricola” There are some caveats with this genre - of course as the writers are not “modern” historians. key points that maintain that the Gospels are true - you can find details and analysis of these points with a in depth study of WLC’s work: 1. Historical Reliability. 2. Philosophical Arguments. 3. Resurrection Evidence. 4. Criteria of Authenticity. 5. Scholarly Support. Here are some interesting articles I read this morning with my coffee, that can answer the original posters question about the census/Herod issue: www.str.org/w/-misquoting-jesus-answering-bart-ehrman tyndalehouse.com/explore/articles/was-luke-wrong-about-the-census/ Bottom line, if a person does not want to believe - they probably won’t and they will find any excuse not to - because it’s really a heart posture, a spiritual matter; it’s NOT purely or perhaps even primarily a matter of intellect although Craig does a good job of reasoning and believing. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. 1 Corinthians 13:12 John 3:16 ❤

So the tomb of Jesus: The guy was killed in the first place, because he was regarded as a nobody, an enemy of Rome. Killed by Roman authorities. Do you really think that a man who got crucified, would be given his own tomb? Or is that what imaginative folklores pretend? The people who executed him wouldn’t designate a tomb for him. Christians think he’s god, and so like a pharaoh, they imagine he got his own tomb. But really he would have been discarded in an undignified way. Point: Jesus never had a tomb of which he could resurrect from, the nature of his execution is such that he was killed and disposed of.
@tomnguyen8546

Yes, its likely he was given a tomb because the Romans and Jewish religious leaders didn't want anyone to tamper or steal the body to spread the "narrative" that Jesus would rise in 3 days. Well, a dead body would disprove a resurrection so it was guarded to prevent anyone from trying to further the claim of resurrection. Rome and the Jewish religious leaders wanted Christianity stamped out and wanted 0 chance of anyone trying to still perpetuate His resurrection.

Beyond the testimony of the four authors of the gospels there is no evidence of anything. There are no other sources for any information about Jesus. Firstly, saying "besides Mathew, Mark, Luke and John, there is no evidence of anything" is like saying "besides Diodorus, Justin and Curtius, there is no evidence of Alexander the great". You are conveniently leaving out the most important and strongest historians without giving a basis for why their accounts are unreliable. This is consistent with having a bias, not a lack of evidence. Secondly, there are other historians besides the 4 disciples that wrote about Jesus and Christianity. Tacitus (ca. AD 116) ... Josephus (ca. AD 93) ... Suetonius (ca. AD 120) ... Pliny the Younger (ca. AD 112) ... Mara Bar Serapion (ca. AD 73) ... Lucian of Samosata (ca. AD 166) ... Celsus (ca. 175 AD) To your question about 4 people who said their Rabbi rose from the grave, it depends. If these 4 people wrote at different times, and focussed on different aspects of their Rabbis teachings and these accounts end up being strikingly consistent with eachother, that would be evidence that they are reliable. If the writings are historically and archeologically reliable, i would trust them. Lastly, if these 4 people later on suffered tremendously and were killed horribly for what they preached and claimed to have seen, their dead Rabbi risen, i would believe them. The only way you don't trust the writers of the Gospel is if at worst you are a cynic and biased against them or if at best, you are ignorant of the historical reliability and therefore present them like you have "4 random dudes lying about their teacher". Basically, the only defense most people have against the gospel is a personal inclination to not believe them. It is you who has no evidence that the gospels are false, in light of all the evidence that they are reliable.

religious believers, of all religions, have long winded and difficult to understand rationale for the legitimacy of their chosen religion. IF there was an omnipotent god, that unbelievably powerful being would make its intent and teachings clear and easily understood by everyone. The fact that there are over 3,000 religions is one significant piece of evidence to refute the existence of a god. William Lane Craig is just another religious believer using nonsense to try and justify the existence of god.
