I have one of these rifles, the first one I ever saw was in the Sam Peckinpah film, Ride the High Country. Henry Hammond, the character played by Warren Oates had one. Hamer did not use a model 8 with the extended magazine in the ambush, and no Thompson sub machine guns were used either. Prentis Oakley had the other model 8, and he fired the first shot into the back of Clyde's head. The Model 81 Hamer had was the model with the 15 round police magazine. Cool video

I have the 81 which is essentially the same but in the later .300 Savage. I use M1a stripper clips that work so so. The gun is like shooting a pogo stick I like to say. it is a very accurate gun tho

I make my .300 Savage out of .308 military rounds simply because I don't want '.308' on the headstamp. I can keep my rounds under 2" at 50 yards from sandbags pretty easy which is great for my aging eyes and open sights.

Did that 223 put that hole in your steel plate or was that there ? On your summary you were out of uniform at first. Nothing Runs Like a Deere..that Rifle is interesting on how it operates thanks for sharing.

Yes a 223 rem 55 grain fmj fired out of the savage with a 24 in barrel punched a hole thru it must have been a soft spot on the plate because I hit it in other spots nothing
