Allan Ostermann certainly one of the best - just not by these clowns. Second rate cover, there is none of the amazing energy that the intro gave to a room full of punks to tell them the next couple of minutes was going to blow their minds! I love hearing covers when the band make a song their own, I notice they do several other classics, so hope this was just a bad day.

IAmTheBestMang Sorrry mate, should not have had a go at the band. I was 16/17 when this song blasted into my life and for over 40 years I have played it at least once a week and it feels as fresh as back in '78. But no way will I listen to this rubbish a second time. They may be a great band but they certainly failed with this. On your recommendation I will listen to their early work, and they may be better in the studio, let's see.

In retrospect, I will admit that I was a little too enthusiastic in my comment two years ago. I love the song, and I like this cover. But I do love The Replacements. I saw them in 1989. They were drunk, sloppy and awesome. I got lucky, I guess. The combination worked that night.

Like so many covers of this they completely fail to capture the heart wrenching feel of the song normally by just fiddling about with the intro and lead trylog to rock it up and losing everything that this song is about . To me John Perry wrote the greatest piece of guitar composition set perfectly for the song rather than the usual lead which 2/3 way through the song f.cks off on a bus to come back 30 seconds later asking if it missed anything whilst it was gone. Punk is my music but These bands need to understand a song like this before playing gt or its just another power chord anthem

@@spencercoe3804 Yup. I danced to The Only Ones back in the day and liked them, but the Replacements would never play a song that way. The original strikes me as rhythmically stiff (yeah, I know, new wave, 'sposed to be like that, The Cars and all, but. . .) with pretentious stage act and moves. Their "perfect" arrangement and guitar solo lack spontaneity IMO. Sounds like they practiced it too many times. Does not rock for me. A great song and great lyrics, but I'll take Westerberg's singing over the squeaky original singer any day. And the Replacements have/had a sense of humor which people sometimes miss. They played lots of covers sloppy and a bit tongue-in-cheek on purpose. Ever heard their version of "Black Diamond" by KISS? Hahahaha

This is a good cover but too many live Replacements can't be enjoyed as much as their perfect imperfect studio records. If you differ, you are stupid. Just continue to enjoy Sorry Ma and put down Talent Show like it's an ugly sellout! Their best records at Let it be, Tim, Pleased to meet Me and Don't tell a Soul. It shouldn't sound perfect but the live videos should be all noise. Even the Sex Pistol had good live versions.
@robertmcmanus9185

Your comments are confusing; seems like you need to edit... is it "the live videos shouldn't be all noise"? Or that they should be ALL noise. What I will say is "If you differ, you are stupid" isn't much of a line. We should be able to agree to disagree. As for that, I agree, my fave LPs are Let It Be, Tim and Pleased To Meet Me, but, Don't Tell A Soul has real brilliance too. Seen these boys twice and I can guarantee you that Left Of The Dial, Alex Chilton, etc. were not "good live versions". They were great. I hope you come back and clarify. I do like your "their perfect imperfect studio records". Brilliant line.
