This was one of those magic moments that only rock and roll delivers. One of the best shows ever, and I’d seen the boys a few times before.

Growing up I saw them a ton of times, starting in the Bob years. I flew back to Chicago from Hawaii just to see their reunion and I was blown away by how good they were. This was no cash grab, they delivered!

I wonder how Westerburg felt here after all these years past and finally he's become a sort of legitimate musician, not just a knucklehead Replacement. Listen to the crowd singing along with him. I bet it was strange for him. That kind of thing wasn't happening back in '85 when he wrote it.

There's a bunch of bands who have had this happen to them from digital distribution of their stuff. American Football, one of the pioneers (and easily the best) of midwest emo, played something like six shows before they "broke up." Their seminal s/t album got passed around Napster, Soulseek et al. and twenty years later they were playing sold out national tours. The saddest one is Big Star. Finally got the recognition they deserved and Alex Chilton dies days before SXSW.

The 80's was a music wasteland. Bands became popular because they had a hit MTV video. Shit like Madonna, Culture Club, and Duran Duran spewed their vomit over Radio stations. Then about 1984-85 buddy of mine came home from the U of Illinois with a few Albums nd wanted us to hear a band called "The Replacements". The first song he played was "Bastard's of Young". I was hooked. Even though it took me 20 years to learn the Chorus is "Wait on the Sons of No one" LOL!!! Now I'm old as Fuck. But they still make me feel young when O listen to them

Music wasteland? The 80’s was when punk and alt took over and ushered out DISCO!! Metal also thrived big time as did some of the huge 60’s bands such as the Stones and Who. I could argue that the 80’s was easily the BEST decade in music!

@@scottt5484 No it was just garbage hair metal that took over the 80s. Best puck scene was from the mid seventies to the end of 70s. 70 was the best era for rock N' roll in my opinion.

The 80's was a music wasteland...... Depends where you were. College radio peaked in the 80s, and produced some gems got even bigger: U2, REM, Cure. The Mats, however, remained a club/bar act for their career until they reformed. 89s also pioneered in house, hip-hop, hardcore, reggae, etc

It sounded perfect at the venue-I think the problem with audio is volume is just too loud for a cell phone mic to handle. And the video was shot very close to the stage! Excellent camerawork.
