Thank you so much for all the feedback and for listening to my novel The Reset. Some quick notes: I will be adding more audiobooks to the channel in the coming months along with post apocalyptic / dystopian related video essays. If you enjoyed this novel, I would greatly appreciate it if you left a review on the books Amazon listing (link in the description). Also, if you enjoyed this audiobook please check out my video essay on post apocalyptic hunger - it is by far the greatest video I have ever made and I sure you will enjoy it! Well done on the narration, but remember to breathe, hydrate, and maybe slow down just a teeny bit. For someone that who isn't a trained narrator, you are heads above a lot of those out the there. You have a good voice, and maybe you could be making a few hundred dollars by narrating some of the new author's books that can't afford the thousands of bucks it normally costs! Just listened to your rant about KZitem kicking you in the 'nads for using your own content, feel for you fella, hopefully it might get sorted. Keep up the good written work, AND keep practicing the narration, you won't ever have to pay anyone to read your books for audio...and you also can catch all those pesky editing oversights.

But cheers to you mate! You have an incredible future! Can’t wait for more…and possibly a tv series!
@MaceValor
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for listening and your feedback - I really appreciate it! So this novel is the second book in my series “Shelter” and chronologically takes place before the first book. The aim was to set up characters in future novels while showcasing the larger state of the world outside Chicago, where most of the first book takes place. Some of the characters in The Reset are in Shelter, for example the story Patrol Duty the craziness of that night is actually the climatic event in the first novel just told from the eyes of people living in the Northside of Chicago rather than from the perspective of the people from the south side being the ones causing all the chaos. The father headed to Seattle we will see again in the future, although we will not have another chapter from his perspective. The big take away from the story The Road Trip is the trucker and the dog as both of them are in the first novel. The Reset as a novel is ultimately about future set up and overall world building, although I do consider it supplemental material to the core Shelter series - reading it helps but is not entirely necessary if the reader prefers the main series.

Sure thing! Sorry for the confusion, I hoped that the preface would clear this up, but yes they are structured as independent short stories. Yes at first they seem to be all over the place however as you get closer to the end of the book a lot of the connections between the stories characters and events begin to make sense and most of them have connections with one another or with the novel that came before this one, Shelter. The Reset chronologically takes place before Shelter, however there will be some things that might make more sense if Shelter is read first but that is mostly in the category of “Easter eggs.” Since they deal with different events and characters they could be read in any order. I really enjoyed listening to this Novel. The idea of the story made sense and the narration kept it fun with the different accents. What made me enjoy it the most, however, was the writing style. I loved each chapter following a different person or a whole new group all together, and watching all the pieces get put together was alot of fun. The profanity was to be expected with the military background of the characters and the situation they were in. My only critique would be that it felt like because most characters only had their one chapter, information was left out. It was not critical plot information, though. Thanks for posting!
@MaceValor
Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the feedback, and honestly yes I do feel that there was room for improvement in that department. I’m sure I could have spent a little more time flushing out each character with some more background but ultimately I think the major issue is that this is the second book published in the series yet was the first one that I made an audiobook for. So naturally it was written as if people have read the first book Shelter. By doing the audio release this way some contextual things have been lost without having had the opportunity to read the first novel, but rest assured I am working getting that novel recorded and uploaded relatively soon

@@MaceValor my two favorite go to words. I’ve discarded many books that lacked the elegant use of swearing, made them seem so unrealistic is post apocalyptic scenarios. Looking forward to your next installment 🤘🏼🤘🏼

@@MaceValor I did play the rest of the story and it did get better, but, but , in the future any interaction with bad guys or dangerous situations you don't just mention by the way I got my car stolen by bad guys, ..but then you go in to drama and details, like out of nowhere two guys came up to the car guns drawn, what do I do gun the gas and take a chance my boy getting shot or give in and hope they don't kill us anyway, have them put a gun to your head , then the guys laughing guess its your lucky day and drive off. Drama moment

@SplatterPea66 I tested my newest audiobook with an AI voice but according to my metrics KZitem doesn’t like to promote videos with heavy use of ai even if it’s just audio, so in time I’ll do it myself, hopefully with minimal dog barking

The Reset is a stand alone novel setting as a prequel to the book Shelter. We will see many of the characters from The Reset in future novels. I am currently working on the audio book for Shelter Part 1 and wrapping up editing Shelter Part 2.

32:06 Literally the first thing I thought of, kinda obvious they’d do that. Edit: Good story except for the fact that the main characters are painfully un-likable, torturing for the sake of appeasing some kind of sick internal sense of justice always makes you the bad guy. Great narration though

Glad you were able to pick up on that - they are intentionally unlike able from an outside perspective. To one another they are able to justify their twisted perspective on reality. Part of the reason why I’ve chosen to write this series from first person POV is that I wanted the reader to see their inner monologue, the characters’ biased perspectives. The group of veterans will return in future novels being seen from another character’s POV and will be seen in a light far different from how they presented themselves to the reader

Oh it’s all good. I’m a relatively new author, self published the first book in the series in 2019 and there more to the series coming out so as people dive deeper into each novel certain ideas and connections will unfold, so long as I did my job correctly that is.

It’s fiction, most foundations of made up stories are far fetched or unrealistic. But to each their own. Perhaps I could make some suggestions that might be more up your alley. Are there any other post apocalyptic novels you have been interested in? I’d use your answer to get a baseline of your interests and make my suggestions from there

If you like I could make a video explaining that but the short answer was the conversation from using traditional currency to using crypto, and it was a slow burn effect that happened over time. It is explained (I think I actually over explained it) in the book

I’m going to be honest you’re either a troll or intellectually brain dead. This book is great. If you read ANY post apocalyptic literature at all you’d know this is a great addition to the genre. If you read (or listen) to a book of this quality and get “bored”, you need to try reading the very hungry caterpillar. It’s a lovely little picture book that may be more your speed.
